Ada’s mother had no idea it was Niamh who had testified against Ada.
She had only managed to find out about Ada’s current condition by bribing a servant.
Her rage immediately burst forth.
She could not lash out at Carter and Camille, but she could direct her anger at Niamh.
Ada’s mother thought to herself as she advanced toward Niamh menacingly.
Before she managed to walk up to Niamh, however, Kendrick had taken a step forward and stood in front of Niamh.
“Stay away from my wife,” Kendrick warned in an exceptionally cold tone.
Ada’s mother halted immediately, afraid of taking another step toward Niamh.
Kendrick radiated an aura that intimidated her.
The expression in Carter’s eyes was already terrifying enough. At that moment, though, she felt that Kendrick’s gaze was even more lethal.
However, now that she had reached this point, there was no turning back for her.
If she backed down now, Ada would be held accountable for the crimes of arson and murder.
“Eveline, why did you falsely accuse my daughter Ada of setting the fire?”
“You’d better speak to her with more respect, ” Kendrick reminded her coldly. “Don’t blame me for not reminding you. Offending my wife puts you in more danger than offending me.”
Ada’s mother’s heart trembled in fear when she heard those words.
“I… I don’t care. I just want to ask this woman Eveline, why she slandered my daughter and accused her of arson and murder?! “
Niamh truly did not want to bother explaining. With a solemn gaze, she looked at Carter, who was watching the entire scene unfolding from the side, then calmly shifted her gaze back onto Ada’s mother.
“I have nothing to explain to you.”
“What? You woman! You were the one who accused my daughter, you—”
“If you want an explanation, you should ask the police for it. I’ve filed a police report. The officers should be here soon.”
Niamh simply interrupted Ada’s mother, smugly raising her perfectly angled eyebrows.
“You should be quite familiar with your daughter’s behavior. I would not have filed a police report if I was not a hundred percent certain.”
” ” Ada’s mother was astonished by Niamh’s imposing manner of speech and gaze.
It had never occurred to her that a woman could be so daunting, but she witnessed it on Niamh.
“Your beloved daughter has killed two of my closest friends. I’ll definitely make sure she pays for it.”
“You…” Ada’s mother was momentarily speechless.
“Since the police are on their way, let me cooperate like a good citizen that I am by calling out the person in question.”
Carter gave his bodyguard a signal as he spoke, and the bodyguard immediately did as told.
Ada’s mother looked frantically toward the door while Carter glanced over at Kendrick.
Feeling Carter’s eyes on himself, Kendrick met his gaze indifferently.
The corner of Carter’s mouth calmly curved into a smile. A smile that did not reach his eyes and was exceptionally heavy with implication.
Niamh looked at the current Carter, and all she could think about was how terrifying this person was.
Not long after, Ada was brought in by the bodyguard.
To be precise, she was carried out by the bodyguard. Ada’s feet had been dragged across the ground. As soon as they entered the living room, the bodyguard dumped the unconscious Ada onto the floor before her mother.
Ada, who was thrown roughly to the ground, woke from her slumber in pain.
She opened her eyes and shrank immediately when she saw Carter standing before her, trembling like a terrified bird.
She had not imagined that Carter could truly do such a thing.
All that he was left to do now was cripple her legs and disfigure her face.
Ada’s mother was in disbelief when she saw Ada’s appearance. Her eyes widened as she studied Ada from head to toe. She was utterly dumbstruck as well!
Ada’s mother would not have realized that this filthy, unkempt woman before her was Ada if she had not taken a closer look at her!
If Niamh had not seen it for herself, she would not have known that Carter was truly a man who would be willing to do anything.
Ada flinched in panic at her mother’s feet, pulling a t the legs of her mother’s trousers.
“Mom, please take me home. I want to go home! I don’t want to be a Viscountess anymore. I just want to be treated as a human being now!”
Ada gasped as she begged her mother. Cautiously, she lifted her eyes to look at Carter.
Ada shuddered once again when she met his dark gaze.
Ada’s mother remained stunned for a while before she regained her senses and bent down to help Ada up.
She pushed Ada’s messy and dirty hair out aside and took a long look at Ada’s face, which had not been washed in days. Once again, she was dumbstruck.
“Ada, what happened to you…” she asked. She then abruptly raised her head and glared at Carter questioningly. “Carter, how could you torture Ada like this?! She’s your wife. Even if she made a mistake, you should tolerate her!”
“Wife? I have never considered her as my wife,” Carter retorted in a cold tone without thinking. “In my eyes, she’s nothing more than a tool that was used to set up an arranged marriage.”
“You…” Ada’s mother had not expected Carter to express those words so bluntly.
She wanted to retort, but Ada clutched her sleeve firmly and pleaded repeatedly, “Don’t say anything else. Just take me home quickly!”
“Alright, I’ll bring you home immediately! Let me see who still dares to bully you!” Ada’s mother responded aggressively. She helped Ada stand up and made a move to leave.
Without warning, Carter let out an uncanny snicker. “As an arsonist who has killed two people, do you think you’d be allowed to leave?”
Ada’s foot abruptly shrank back. Even though Carter’s claims were true, she would never confess.
At this point, the police had already processed Niamh’s report and rushed over to Gray Villa.
When Ada saw that the police officer was about to handcuff her, she immediately put on an expression of grief and began yelling at Carter. “Carter! You may have never regarded me as your wife, but that doesn’t give you the right to slander me like this! And you, Eveline, what evidence do you have? How can you convict me with mere words and your so- called intuition? This is absurd! I’m innocent, Officer. You cannot arrest me.”
“Ada, you’re the one who’s being absurd.”
Niamh overturned Ada’s lies without hesitation.
“To prevent Adam from healing Shirley’s legs and face, you irrationally set a fire to kill Adam and Cathy. With Adam dead, Shirley will become what you hoped. She’ll remain in her current condition for the rest of her life.”
Carter listened at the side as Niamh revealed Ada’s motive. The uncanny smile on his face gradually gave way to a cold and dark expression accompanied by a hint of murderous intent.
Ada could sense Carter’s unhappiness. Despite trembling in fear, she clung firmly to her protest.
“That’s nonsense, Eveline! Is this an act of animosity on your part toward me? Why must you slander me this way? I, Ada, have never committed anything immoral!
“I’m not even acquainted with Adam and Cathy. Carter had not allowed me anywhere near the house they lived in. I’ve never even been there. How could I have started the fire?
“Eveline, you keep on claiming that I did it. What evidence do you have? Are you presenting the nonsense that you speak as evidence?”
“Of course, I have evidence, given that I’ve made such a bold statement, “
The moment Niamh uttered those words, Ada’s arrogant and ferocious face froze instantly.
‘There’s evidence?
‘Did Eveline have evidence that I started the fire?
‘How is that possible? ‘This is impossible! ‘
Ada’s eyes flitted as she got increasingly flustered.
Niamh studied Ada’s flustered look and calmly pulled out an object from her pocket.
“Mrs. Gray, can I request that you widen your eyes and take a good look at this. Does it belong to you?”
In unison, all eyes turned to the object which was held between Niamh’s fingers and wrapped in plastic.
Likewise, Ada immediately turned her gaze toward the object. When she saw the necklace in Niamh’s hand, she unconsciously reached up and touched her bare neck.
“Your reaction, Mrs. Gray, confirms that this is indeed your necklace.”
” .. Eveline, how dare you steal my necklace !” Ada bit back.
