“I understand now. I finally understand.” As realization emerged in Niamh’s mind, her expression grew more and more serious. “It’s Carter, isn’t it? He’s the one who’s inciting disharmony between us. That’s why you’ve suddenly been acting like this toward me and Kendrick.”
When he heard what Niamh said, Fabian denied it.
“This has nothing to do with him! ”
Fabian quickly lifted his eyes and looked straight into Niamh’s eyes. His gaze suddenly changed.
“Isn’t it true that Kendrick went undercover to stay by Lana so he could collect evidence? Isn’t it true that he used my trust in you to successfully destroy my brother’s company and indirectly prompted Ryan to kill Lana?”
Listening to Fabian’s accusations which brimmed with rancor, Niamh calmly listened and spoke calmly.
“ I don’t want to repeat this, Fabian, I know you’re not irrational, and I also know that in your heart, you know exactly how your brother and sister died.
“ It doesn’t matter if you hate me or if you want to seek revenge against me. That’s a different matter. I just want to know my daughter’s situation now. ”
After Niamh finished speaking calmly, she observed the changes in Fabian’s expression, and then she asked.
“Did Carter abduct Lily when I came to you in the afternoon? It’s not that you don’t allow me to see her. In fact, you can’t let me see her because you don’t even know where Lily is now.”
Niamh accurately analyzed Fabian’s thoughts. Indeed, he had no choice.
Catching sight of the frustration that flashed across Fabian’s eyes, Niamh felt a little grateful instead.
“Fabian, nothing has actually changed. You still regard me as a friend in the deepest part of your heart.”
Fabian was stumped when he heard this, but he quickly denied it.
“Eveline, don’t try to use this method to win back my trust in you and my fondness for you. I won’t believe you again, and I stopped regarding you and Kendrick as my friend a long time ago.”
Fabian’s tone was cold, but at the same time, he also promised.
“I’ve lost Lillian, so I must find her, but I might not let you take her away.”
After saying that, he turned around and strode away.
Niamh did not chase after him. She knew Fabian would not listen to her at the present.
However, she was indeed worried about Lillian’s current situation.
She did not tell Kendrick about Carter abducting Lillian. She was worried that he would get worried and get on a plane to F Country.
She called Kendrick and told him that Fabian was still refusing to let her see their daughter without mentioning the rest.
Niamh had stayed in F Country for three years before. Thanks to Felipe, she had met a lot of people from the upper class here and she knew a lot of people with reputations and statuses. As such, she immediately called those friends who could help her find Lillian.
Night fell upon F Country.
The night, without the warm comfort of the sun, was very cold, the type of cold that was also damp.
After finishing her dinner quietly, Lilian sat quietly and obediently next to Shirley the whole time.
Although Lilian was still young, she could sense Shirley’s kindness and friendliness toward her.
Shirley had difficulty moving around, but she was still very considerate in taking Lillian to the bathroom and helping her take a simple shower.
Since there were no clothes for Lillian to change into, Shirley had to let Lillian wear back the clothes she was wearing before.
She led Lillian to the bedroom, but Carter suddenly appeared and stopped them at the door.
“Shirley, what are you doing?”
Carter asked in a cold tone, lowering his eyes to Lillian.
“I didn’t bring this little thing over so that you can take care of her.”
Shirley looked at Carter indifferently. “Carter, you must keep your word. Since you said that as long as I obey you, you won’t hurt this child, so be a man of your words.”
“I haven’t forgotten what I promised you, but that doesn’t mean you have to serve her, bathe her, and tuck her into bed.”
“I’m happy to do so, ” Shirley replied without hesitation. She then turned her head and stretched out her hand to Lillian. “Lily, come into the room with me. Shall we sleep together tonight?”
Lillian glanced at the icy Carter and turned her head to cast her clear gaze on Shirley’s friendly and smiling face.
She nodded and agreed obediently.
Shirley smiled in turn, then gently held Lillian’s little hand and slowly entered the room.
Carter’s head as he watched Shirley’s actions, and he felt very pissed off in his heart.
He suddenly regretted agreeing with Shirley’s condition.
His plan had been so flawless. Didn’t he steal Lillian from Fabian just so he could seek revenge on Kendrick?
However, what was this?
He came to the balcony feeling irritated. He then lit a cigarette and started smoking.
He narrowed his eyes and looked at the lonely night view. Suddenly, he started chuckling at himself.
Carter Gray had been the noble Viscount of St. Piaf, but now he was reduced to this.
There was no one around him whom he could trust. How and why did this happen?
“Shirley, do you really think I brought you to F Country just so I can abduct Kendrick’s daughter to seek revenge against him? You’re wrong.”
Carter smiled coldly and put out his cigarette.
When he was about to walk back to the room, his phone vibrated.
Upon seeing the caller ID, he did not hesitate to answer it.
“Is there any good news?” he asked the person on the other end of the phone urgently.
Coincidentally, Shirley, who came out of the bedroom to drink water, suddenly heard this coming from the balcony.
She slowly approached the balcony to listen more closely, and then she heard Carter mentioning the name Evan.
After that, Shirley heard Carter’s firm and overbearing request.
“Now, contact this person for me. I want to see him and talk to him. You can tell him that money isn’t a problem.”
Shirley felt that something was not right. As she wondered whether to ask Carter directly to see what was going on, Carter hung up the phone and walked in. Their eyes then met at this moment.
“You heard everything, didn’t you?” Carter was frank with her.
Shirley calmly asked, “Who’s Evan? Why are you meeting this person?”
Carter scanned Shirley’s face calmly before he walked to the toilet. “You don’t need to know too much. You just need to follow my orders.”
It did not seem that he wanted to explain, but after he said that, Carter heard Shirley chuckling coldly behind him.
“Yeah, I don’t need to know. I’m always like a clown with no dignity, and I only need to listen to Mr. Carter’s orders and arrangement.” Carter suddenly stopped in his tracks.
When he turned around, Shirley had already gone into her room with her glass of water and tightly shut the door to the room.
Clown?
Carter lowered his gaze and laughed at himself. Presently, he was the one who seemed more like a clown.
The next morning.
When Shirley woke up, she realized that Carter had left.
She saw the breakfast on the table, and she knew Carter had prepared this for her.
She then saw that he had prepared two servings of breakfast.
Did he purposely prepare extra for Lillian? Was he only stubborn on the surface but soft inside? Was there still kindness in his heart?
Shirley thought about that silently. After she helped Lillian to wash up, she handed some of the breakfast to Lillian.
“Lily, have some. Don’t go hungry.” Shirley smiled gently and amiably.
Lillian nodded obediently and cleverly. Suddenly, Shirley felt a pang in her heart. Tears also began to well up in her eyes.
Shirley subconsciously lifted her hand to touch her flat stomach.
How amazing would it be if she and Carter’s child could have come safely into this world?
She wondered if it had been a girl or a boy.
