She seemed to be warning him, but in fact, she was hoping she could use this way to stop Carter from committing suicide.
She could not accept how he wanted to use such a decisive way to completely settle all grievances.

Shirley’s tears fell all at once.

Carter put Shirley’s hand down, stood up, and faced the sea again.

After hearing these words, Shirley’s heart seemed to be instantly torn apart, indescribable pain occupying every corner of her body.
“Stop talking, Carter, stop it…“ Shirley begged as she cried. “Don’t do anything stupid. I ‘m begging you, just give yourself in, okay?“
“I ‘m happy to hear you call my name again.“ Carter smiled and turned back to look at Shirley’s face that was drenched with tears. His gentle eyes boar love and deep emotions.
“Shirley, if I don’t say this, I will never get the chance again.“
He said and a gentle smile spread on his lips. He then confessed his love.
“I love you.“
I love you.
Those words should have been sweet, but in that instant, they felt like a sharp knife through Shirley’s heart.
She knew she could no longer stop Carter. Carter had already made up his mind.
When she saw Carter approaching the sea slowly, Shirley’s heart immediately split open. The cold winter wind overwhelmed her heart, and she felt a bone-chilling coldness.
“No! Carter, please don’t do this! Carter! “
Shirley cried out to stop him. She reached out her hand to him and used all she had to move her body to get close to Carter, but eventually, she fell out of the wheelchair.
When Carter heard the sound, he stopped in his tracks and turned around to take a look.
He saw Shirley on the ice -cold floor. She lay there helplessly as she kept waving at him with all her might, tears drenching her face.
Carter felt his heart tighten, and he furrowed his brows. However, he chose to turn a blind eye.
“No, don’t, no…“
Shirley reached out her trembling hand. She hoped that Carter would turn back to hold her hand, but he never did.
She was so close to him, and yet it felt as if they were miles apart, no longer within reach.
No matter how much she reached out with her arm, they would always have a distance between them…
“Shirley, you’re so smart, so you must be able to make something that could make you forget your troubles and past. If you can, please forget me completely.“
With that last sentence, Carter walked onward without stopping.
In that second, Shirley felt as if she had fallen into an abyss, all the colors before her eyes shrouded by darkness.
“Carter, no…“
Shirley broke down immediately.
At the same time, some hurried footsteps approached her from behind.
Shirley did not notice those footsteps, but Carter did.
At that second, an unexpected voice drifted into his ears.
“Carter, do you think you could get rid of everything you’ve done if you jumped from here? Let me tell you, you couldn’t.“
Carter had already put one leg forward. When he heard that voice, he turned his head back in disbelief.
The light from the streetlight had never been so dazzling. Incredulous, he looked at the two people who were approaching him, and at that moment, rancor surged back into his eyes.
“How is that possible?”
He could not believe what he had just seen, yet those figures and faces were getting clearer and clearer.
When Shirley saw that Carter had turned around, a glad smile appeared on her face immediately.
She lifted her hand to wipe her tears. She wanted to support herself with her hands, but she could not get up no matter what.
Amidst her state of anxiousness and helplessness, a pair of warm palms grabbed her by her arm and waist.
“Get up now. Won’t want to catch a cold.”
A warm and concerned voice came into her ear.
Shirley’s attention had been on Carter this whole time. Now that she felt that someone was concerned about her and was helping her up, she finally came back to her senses. When she saw the person helping her, she simultaneously felt stunned and pleasantly surprised.
Just like Carter, Shirley thought something was wrong with her eyes.
However, the face in front of her and the body temperature on her skin made Shirley certain that this was not an illusion.
“Eveline? It’s really you! “
Niamh could feel Shirley’s surprise at the sight of her. Niamh smiled and nodded. “Yes, it’s me. Get up first.“
“You’re still alive. That’s great! “ Shirley was so excited that tears escaped her eyes, then through her blurred vision, she saw another figure. “Kendrick?
Kendrick is alive too. This is great! You’re all fine! “
Niamh could see Shirley’s sincere hope that Niamh and Kendrick would be safe and sound. In contrast to Shirley, however, when Carter saw that the couple had escaped unscathed, anger and questions immediately came to his mind.
Despite the raging anger in his chest, Carter chuckled pretentiously.
“Kendrick, you sure are tough.“
Carter’s tone was sarcastic. He then looked at Niamh and concluded.
“It seems that I inadvertently saved you when I had sent her to you in hopes that you two can die together, am I right?“
Kendrick looked at Niamh tenderly before raising a sharp and proud eyebrow.
“Yes, thank you for bringing my wife to me. With her by my side, I believed that I need to live no matter what. I can’t stand by and let my beloved woman suffer with me.“
After listening to Kendrick’s answer, the hostility in Carter’s eyes grew stronger.
Niamh and Kendrick helped Shirley into the wheelchair. After sitting down, Shirley immediately moved the wheelchair up to Carter’s side and grabbed Carter’s hand tightly, preventing him from moving toward Kendrick.
“Carter, we’ll just end this here, okay? Stop obsessing over this. Listen to me, let’s surrender. Go surrender, okay?“ Afraid that Carter would cause further harm to Kendrick and Eveline again, Shirley used all her might to grab Carter’s sleeve and tried to persuade him again and again.
Despite being restrained by Shirley, the burning hatred in Carter’s eyes intensified.

Carter’s tone was firm, and his thoughts remained unchanged.

Shirley continued to persuade him.
“Listen to me, go surrender. No matter how long it takes, I will wait for you, Carter. We were wrong, so we should bear the corresponding punishment. Stop being so stubborn, okay?“
Carter lowered his eyes to look at Shirley, whose face was drenched with tears. He furrowed his brows tightly. He could not stand seeing Shirley begging him like this, but his hatred for Kendrick prevented him from giving in and agreeing to Shirley’s request.
