Then Ada took a $100 bill from her pocket and said, “Keep the change.”
Ethan fumbled with his phone. After a brief pause, he said again, “You’re cool and generous, and I really like you. Do you want to collaborate with me later again?”
“I agreed to meet with you because you said you had critical information. Just tell me right now. I don’t have much patience, and I’ll be leaving soon.”
Then Ethan complained, “This middleman you got is untrustworthy. He not only took a large sum of money from us but also tried to trick us further.”
At that point, Ada had had enough of him and interrupted him, saying, “Let’s get to the point! I’m not interested in hearing that nonsense.”
After a while, Ethan showed her a QR code.
“What is this?” Ada asked, her brow furrowed.
“Here is the proof! I recorded the evidence and uploaded it to the cloud. You can watch the video by scanning this QR code,” Ethan explained.
Ada hesitated. Seeing that, Ethan’s heart began to race, but he remained calm. He said, frowning, “Anna Wright will definitely lose her case! She is now being held in jail for several days, and the trial will begin soon.”
At the thought that she could have her revenge, Ada grinned with delight. There was a sinister gleam in her eyes.
“But, I heard that her husband is Wayne Wright, the president of the Carousel Group. He is a powerful and wealthy man. To have someone go to jail for her, he has made contacts and plans,” Ethan added.
Before Ethan could finish his sentence, Ada slapped the table and said loudly, “Wayne wouldn’t do that! He’s not going to risk the Carousel’s reputation for her!”
Curling the corner of his lips upward, Ethan tapped the QR code on his phone screen with one finger and said, “This is the video I took. At the cafe, he and his assistant were discussing this thing, saying they would get someone to go to jail for her. Wayne is going to quit his job when it’s over, and he and Anna are going to live in America.”
“Damn!” exclaimed Ada angrily, slapping the table hard.
Ethan said with a nod, “Calm down. They don’t know that I have the evidence. You can ruin his plan and reputation if you show the video to the cops. After that, neither of them will be able to escape.
Ada was less worried after hearing Ethan’s very rational words. She didn’t hesitate any longer. She took her phone from her pocket and scanned the QR code. Then she saw the image of Wayne and Noel having conversations in the cafe.
“Are you sure you want to go this far for her, Mr. Wright? If the police find out about it, the company will be destroyed, and you will also be arrested.”
Wayne said calmly, “Stop with the nonsense! Just do as I say.”
Ada was thrilled after watching the entire video. She threw back her head and laughed so hard she couldn’t stop herself.
“I did bring important information, didn’t I? So, when do you plan to pay me?” Ethan took a deep breath and said.
Ada gave Ethan a look which showed that she was satisfied. She said, “I’ll give you the money once it’s finished. Well, I didn’t expect you to be this good.”
Ethan smugly reached out and squeezed his large breasts. “I am more than a pretty face.”Then he took up the teacup on the table’s corner and poured himself a cup of wheat tea. Suddenly, and the teacup slipped from his grasp and fell to the floor.
Ada frowned slightly and looked at him with wide eyes.
“Oops! Sorry.” Ethan let out a scream and said. He then bent down to pick up the broken pieces on the ground.
With a snort, Ada gave him a wary look. At that moment, the restaurant owner rushed in with a rolling pin from the kitchen. He continued to babble and wave his hands. Ethan froze, unsure of what he was doing.
Ada quickly recognized what was going on. She jumped up from her chair, grabbed a salt shaker, and smashed it on Ethan’s head.
“How dare you try to fool me!” Ada became enraged.
Ethan felt pain, followed by a sharp stinging sensation at the top of his head. When he touched his hair, he discovered that his hands were covered in blood. He had made deals with many people before, but this was the first time he’d been hurt. Struggling, he collapsed to the ground and passed out eventually.
When Ethan regain his consciousness, he was in a hospital bed with gauze wrapped around his head. He sat up from the bed as soon as he opened his eyes. Then he saw Ryan sitting beside him, quietly staring at him. And he was surprised by it.
“Is this the ‘perfect plan’ you were talking about? That bitch hit me on the head with a salt shaker as soon as I smashed the cup. Would I be in a morgue now if she had stabbed me?!” Ethan shouted angrily.
Ryan poked the gauze on his head with his finger. “I thought you were as smart as most of our students, but I can’t believe you couldn’t even avoid a salt shaker.”
“I’m telling you, if you don’t give me some compensation, you’ll never hear the end of it!” Ethan shouted in anger.
When Ryan’s cell phone rang, he left the ward without hesitation. He returned to the ward three minutes later, picking up the jacket by the bed and was about to leave.
“Hey, I’m not finished yet!” Ethan yelled.
“What else do you have to say?”
“Where’s Ada? Did you catch her?”
Ryan shook his head and replied, “She escaped, but we have tracked her down. We need to search the suburbs because she ran into a hill.”
“After you guys catch her, can I hit her on the head with a salt shaker?” Ethan sighed and asked slowly.
Ryan walked away before glaring at him.
In the cafeteria of Birmingham University, Sean handed the girl, who was sitting by the window, a cup of hot coffee. “There is a spot for the national debate competition, and I recommended you,” he said.
Isabella didn’t seem particularly excited about it, so she just sipped her coffee. “I’m sorry, but I don’t want to go. Jasmine would certainly be interested in it, and it would help her when she applies to graduate school.”
“Actually, Jasmine has left the debate team,” Sean said as he leaned back.
“Huh? Why? I thought she enjoyed the debate,” Isabella asked, surprised.
“She’s been very busy lately and has exams to prepare for. Also, she’s starting an internship.” Sean made an excuse, “This evening, I’ll be hosting the campus singer competition. Would you like to come?”
Isabella raised her eyes to Sean, who wore a white shirt under his camel-colored cashmere coat and a dark blue tie. “Sorry, but I may not be able to attend. I’ve had a lot on my plate lately, and I have several papers to write. If I’m available this evening, I’ll be there.”
“OK, I’ll reserve two front-row seats for you. You are welcome to bring a friend.”
“Thanks.”
As the two finished their meal and left the cafeteria together, a man approached Isabella.
“Jasper, what are you doing here?” Isabella asked, surprised.
Jasper was dressed to the nines in a black couture suit, one hand in his suit pants pocket. He didn’t say anything, but his calm demeanor made him seem mature and reliable.
“Why haven’t you returned my calls lately?” He asked gently, looking into her eyes.
Isabella averted her gaze. Lily had answered the phone the last time she called him. As a result, she refused to answer Jasper’s calls after that. She felt betrayed by him and was afraid he would tell her he was remarrying Lily.
At the thought of that, Isabella frowned, took Sean’s hand in hers, and said, “I’m going to a meeting now, sorry. I’ll see you later.”
Jasper, of course, was aware of what she was thinking. Instead of walking away, he said patiently, “Let’s have dinner together tonight.”
“I’m so sorry, I don’t have time for the evening either. I promised my friend that I would be at a competition,” Isabella cut him off and said. When she said that, her grip on Sean’s hand tightened, making him feel hurt.
