“In simpler terms, she wasn’t harming the company but was doing her job to protect it.”
Everyone stood frozen, stunned by the revelation. Sandra was just a village girl with no formal computer training!
Debra felt dizzy. She couldn’t believe her ears.
“Owen, are you sure you’re not mistaken?” Owen lowered his head.
He wished, more than anything, that he had been mistaken.
Sandra couldn’t help but smile mockingly. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, what do you mean? Didn’t you just promise to protect me? Now that I’ve proven my innocence, why aren’t you happy?”
Debra, embarrassed, smiled awkwardly. “Don’t get me wrong.”
After a brief pause, she forced a smile. “I’m just happy for you. It was a misunderstanding.”
Debra took a few steps forward, pretending to show concern for Sandra. “Since it was a misunderstanding, let’s just put this matter to rest.”
Sandra sneered and took a few steps back. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, it’s not just a misunderstanding. Mr. Pope’s slander against me is a criminal offense. I’ll hold him legally responsible.”
With a mocking expression, she looked at Owen. “Mr. Pope, what do you think?”
Owen’s eyes remained fixed on the computer screen. He couldn’t believe he had misjudged.
“Even if I made a mistake, we all saw the email!” Owen clenched his fists tightly. “You were trying to steal company secrets!”
Sandra approached the computer. “Well, Mr. Pope, I’ll demonstrate again, and you better pay close attention!” With that, she began typing.
This time, everyone noticed how fast her fingers moved across the keys. She definitely wasn’t a beginner! At the very least, she knew something about computer technology.
Soon, the computer screen turned blue, and a video appeared. The content was simple. It explained the steps Sandra had taken earlier. It turned out that Sandra had discovered a loophole in the company’s firewall and fixed it directly. During the process, she had to conduct some tests.
The email they had seen earlier was one of the tests.
Owen stared at the video, his eyes wide. By the end, his gaze seemed bloodshot.
“Mr. Pope, when you accused me, I was actually testing the system.” Sandra chuckled. “I just didn’t expect you wouldn’t even understand such simple codes. As the director of the technical department, you’re truly…” She raised her voice. “…not competent enough.”
Owen froze in place. It seemed as though he had been dealt a significant blow. He clutched his chest, his face pale, and couldn’t say a word.
“Oh, by the way…” Sandra suddenly unplugged the USB drive from the computer.
She held up the USB drive she had pulled from the computer and waved it in front of Owen’s eyes. “Mr. Pope, I found a virus program in the USB drive you gave me and removed it for you.” She smiled faintly. “You don’t have to thank me.”
The employees immediately began whispering.
“Mr. Pope is a computer expert. How could he not know there was a virus program?”
“Maybe he planted it himself.”
“If he really overlooked such a thing, he’s not worthy of being the director of the technical department.”
Their words struck like slaps across Owen’s face. He had been an outstanding student since childhood and highly sought after by major companies after graduation. He couldn’t endure such a humiliation. As the mocking words filled the room, he felt unsteady.
Sandra, however, had no sympathy for someone who had tried to harm her. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, may I ask how to deal with an employee who lacks technical skills and slanders colleagues?”
Everyone gasped. They all knew Owen had been promoted by Debra herself. Even if he was in the wrong, they had assumed he would merely be fined. But Sandra had directly questioned Debra, striking at her authority.
Debra stayed silent.
Owen’s face turned pale. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, it’s my fault. I…”
“Mr. Pope, are you resigning?” Sandra interrupted impatiently, deliberately pushing him. “It’s okay. Take your time.”
Owen was left speechless. Debra’s expression darkened with fury.
Sandra held up her phone. “I have some resignation letter templates. Do you need them?”
Owen clenched his fists tightly.
Joey, standing outside, was completely dumbfounded. “Mr. Cooper, Mrs. Cooper is incredible!”
Wesley’s eyes showed admiration. Sandra was new at the company, but she had already managed to surprise him.
“Mr. Cooper, are you helping her?” Joey asked, knowing that Wesley used to be a hacker. He wondered if Wesley had secretly assisted Sandra.
Wesley’s face instantly darkened. “No.”
Joey couldn’t believe it. “Mrs. Debra Cooper.”
Owen took a few deep breaths to regain his composure. However, his knees weakened, and he could barely stand. “I did make a mistake. It was my fault. And I suspected my subordinate without investigation. It was my negligence. I am not capable of handling the role of director. Please allow me to resign.”
With that, he couldn’t hold on any longer and fainted.
Debra exclaimed, “Take him to the hospital.”
As long as they sent Owen to the hospital, everyone would forget about the matter, and he wouldn’t have to resign. It seemed like the perfect solution.
“Wait!” Sandra shouted, stopping the person calling for the ambulance.
Then, she took out a few silver needles and knelt in front of Owen.
“He is suffering from an attack of anger. There’s no need to go to the hospital,” Sandra said.
While everyone was still speculating about what she was going to do, she directly inserted a needle into Owen’s acupoint.
Debra frowned. “Owen did wrongly accuse you just now, but his life is at stake now. Don’t make a fuss.”
Sandra sneered.
“Mrs. Debra Cooper, don’t you remember that I can bring good luck? There’s no need for an ambulance!” Sandra said, her voice calm and assured.
Debra was speechless. She hadn’t believed Sandra had this ability before, but with both Wesley and Victor having regained consciousness, she had no choice but to believe! But…
This situation was different. Owen didn’t need to regain consciousness!
“Sandra, I…” Before Debra could finish speaking, Owen coughed and slowly opened his eyes.
She was furious. Why did Owen wake up now?
As Owen opened his eyes, he realized the ceiling looked very familiar-it resembled that of the technical department. He was surrounded by a group of people, all watching him. He was momentarily stunned. Why were so many people visiting him?
Then, he heard a voice he never expected to hear again.
“Mr. Pope, get up. The floor is cold. You might get diarrhea later.”
Owen froze, shocked. He rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
Wasn’t he at the hospital?
Suddenly standing up, he realized he had never left the technical department. Despair filled his heart.
Sandra couldn’t resist teasing him. “Mr. Pope, did you faint deliberately because you couldn’t bear to give up your position as director?” She placed emphasis on the word “deliberately.”
Owen’s face darkened, a mixture of frustration and humiliation crossing his features.
Sandra turned to Debra. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, Mr. Pope has expressed his desire to resign. What is your decision on this?”
Debra had no reason to refuse, even though she wanted to. She simply felt regretful. Owen had been such a useful pawn, and now he was about to leave without having been properly utilized.
“Alright, I agree. You can go to the HR department,” Debra said.
Even though she didn’t want to, she had to make her position clear in front of everyone. But even if Owen left, Sandra would not be the director of the technical department. Debra needed to find a more suitable right-hand person.
However, Sandra responded with surprise, “Really? I was just kidding.”
Debra shot her a glare.
Sandra continued, “Mr. Pope wasn’t competent enough. He has been in the technical department for many years. Mrs. Debra Cooper, how could you just let him go?” She sighed with apparent disappointment. “Mr. Pope must be heartbroken.”
At first, Owen hadn’t considered this possibility in his anger, but upon hearing Sandra’s words, he looked at Debra, surprised. Debra’s face darkened.
She had just tried to keep Owen, but Sandra interfered. Owen had fainted deliberately in front of everyone, making matters worse. If she didn’t allow his resignation, she would be suspected.
Debra hadn’t expected Sandra to shift the blame onto her. She glanced at Owen’s gloomy expression, knowing he had misunderstood. But she was the president, and she couldn’t go back on her word.
Since she had agreed to let Owen resign, he had to leave. Gritting her teeth, she said, “That’s the company’s policy.” After a pause, she added,
“Sandra, you are new here and may not be familiar with the rules, but you must remember to abide by them. If you violate the company’s rules, I won’t show any mercy!”
Sandra smirked and gave a thumbs-up. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, you sacrifice personal relationships for the company’s sake. I admire you.”
Hearing this obviously sarcastic comment, Debra could hardly contain her anger. She turned her head to look at Owen and said coldly, “Mr. Pope, come to my office.”
Owen was furious as well. He had truly fainted earlier, and he still felt weak. But since Debra had promoted him, he had no choice but to obey her, even if it made him uncomfortable.
The technical department quickly quieted down.
Sandra smiled at the onlookers near the door. “Does this count as a violation of company rules?”
The crowd, taken aback, quickly dispersed. Gathering in groups was strictly prohibited. Debra hadn’t reprimanded them right away because she was angry, but if she realized it later, she would deal with them.
Only Wesley and Joey remained by the door.
Joey felt a bit awkward and waved at Sandra. “Mrs. Cooper…”
“Don’t address me so intimately in the company,” Sandra replied seriously.
Joey smiled. “You were impressive.”
Sandra waved her hand dismissively. “It was nothing. I was just speaking the truth.”
Joey blinked. Did she really think it was nothing? Debra had almost had a stroke over it.
When Victor and Wesley were both unconscious, the whole company had belonged to Debra. No one dared to provoke her.
“Mr. Cooper, aren’t you busy today?” Sandra asked, noticing Wesley sitting leisurely in his wheelchair. She pursed her lips, sensing that he seemed idle.
Sandra was assigned a lot of miscellaneous tasks when she joined the technical department, while Wesley could simply come and watch the commotion idly. It didn’t seem fair.
Wesley lightly tapped the armrest of the wheelchair with his fingers. “Just a reminder, she won’t let this go easily.”
After a pause, as if worried Sandra wouldn’t understand, he added, “She will seek revenge. Be careful.”
With that, he pressed the button on the wheelchair and rolled away.
Sandra shrugged. She knew Debra was not someone who would give up easily, but she wasn’t afraid. She was skilled at handling people like her.
In the president’s office, Owen lowered his head in frustration.
Debra slammed her fist on the table in anger. “Look at what you’ve done! I asked you to deal with Sandra, but you’ve shot yourself in the foot! You idiot!”
Owen felt wronged. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, I know I made a mistake, but you didn’t tell me Sandra was a computer expert! If I had known about her abilities, I would have been more cautious. I wouldn’t have suffered such a complete defeat today.”
