Chapter 36 – The Heiresss’ Revenge: Abandoned No More (Sandra Hill)

“Baxter is still in jail!”

Victor realized what she meant.

Baxter had been arrested for a crime, and he couldn’t be released for now.

“You should talk to the police, or you can change the law if you have the ability.”

Hailey’s chest rose and fell rapidly.

“So, you’re not going to help Baxter?”

Victor’s expression remained indifferent.

“I’ve been ill for so many years, and now I have no voice in family matters.”

Hailey was momentarily stunned.

She hadn’t even considered this.

It turned out that Wesley targeted Baxter not for those gifts but for control of the Cooper family!

In other words, Wesley was avenging Victor.

Hailey took several deep breaths before she could calm herself.

She had underestimated Victor.

Even after being ill for so many years, he never changed.

“Baxter is your younger brother. You have to take care of him no matter what.”

Victor neither agreed nor disagreed.

“Fine, tomorrow I will inform the police. Baxter has brought shame upon the Cooper family. He must be punished severely.”

Hailey was speechless.

Eleanor entered with two bowls of soup.

She sensed the tense atmosphere in the room and thought Hailey had discovered everything. Her heart skipped a beat.

“Madam Cooper, please taste it.” She hesitated to tell the truth.

Hailey, in a fit of rage, smashed one of the bowls onto the table.

“What are you standing there for?”

Eleanor trembled as she replied, “There’s… There’s something I want to report to you.”

Victor’s expression remained indifferent.

“I’ll leave you two. Mom, enjoy the soup.” He left without looking back.

He didn’t care about what Hailey thought of him. After he left, Hailey angrily threw the other bowl of soup onto the floor.

Eleanor was terrified.

Hailey’s eyes burned with murderous intent.

“You better have something important to say!”

Eleanor didn’t dare keep her in suspense.

“Madam Cooper, I just counted the gifts and found that one jade pendant is missing.”

Hailey slammed her fist on the table.

Even without investigating, she knew who might have stolen it.

“Get her here.”

Eleanor quickly went to find Angela.

After learning what had happened, Angela didn’t seem to care.

“Grandma, it’s no big deal. That bitch returned the gifts, didn’t she?”

Angela hesitated.

“She won’t ask for them back?”

Hailey’s heart ached with anger.

“Are you short of money?”

Angela had always been spoiled and didn’t lack money at all.

“Grandma, how could I be short of money? I just heard about a mysterious auction house and decided to randomly pick something to auction just for fun.”

Usually, Hailey would let her do as she pleased.

But this time, Baxter had been caught with evidence.

She had to be cautious.

“Retrieve the item.”

Angela couldn’t believe her ears.

“Grandma, it’s just a worthless trinket.”

Eleanor quickly explained that Sandra wanted the gifts back.

Angela snorted.

“Grandma, you’ve given the country bumpkin so many gifts. How could she remember them all? It doesn’t matter if one pendant is missing.”

Just then, Joey knocked on the door and entered.

He held a gift list in his hand.

“Madam Cooper, Mrs. Cooper sent me to give this to you. She said she didn’t really want to ask you for gifts, but she likes that pendant very much and wants to give it to Mr. Cooper as a token of love. She wants to know if she can take the pendant in advance.”

Joey’s tone was gentle yet firm.

It sounded like he wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Sandra’s request was not excessive.

Joey spoke with humility.

“Madam Cooper, Mrs. Cooper said that she just wanted the pendant and wouldn’t mind if she kept the remaining gifts for herself.”

Hailey was almost enraged.

She had to give in, even if she didn’t want to.

“Joey, what’s wrong with you? How could you run errands for a country bumpkin?”

Angela knew that Joey and Leo were both Wesley’s assistants. When Wesley was unconscious, they had protected him from all threats.

Joey was loyal to Wesley.

So, how could he leave Wesley for the sake of a country bumpkin?

Wasn’t he supposed to stay with Wesley to protect him?

Joey responded flatly,

“She is Mrs. Cooper. Of course, I have to listen to her.”

It was natural for him to run errands for his lady boss.

Angela sneered,

“You’ve really fallen low.”

Joey smiled.

“Ms. Cooper, I came to retrieve the jade pendant. You don’t have to get so worked up.”

Angela was speechless.

She said through gritted teeth,

“Get out of here! Who do you think you are, asking me for something?”

Hailey’s heart skipped a beat.

She guessed that Angela wouldn’t be able to retrieve the jade pendant.

Joey didn’t get angry. Seeing that everyone was annoyed, he added,

“Mrs. Cooper took a photo of the pendant and posted it online. She’ll wear it to work from now on.”

As he spoke, he took out his phone and showed them the photo.

Indeed, Sandra had used Wesley’s phone to spread the news.

She had posted the photo of the jade pendant online.

Hailey felt the urge to smash the phone.

The caption read…

“Thanks for Madam Cooper’s gift. It will be delivered tonight. See you at work tomorrow.”

Everyone would be eager to see the pendant at the Cooper Group the next day.

If Wesley didn’t wear it, they would definitely start doubting the Cooper family.

Even if the employees didn’t gossip, others in their circle would surely ask around.

Hailey didn’t want that to happen.

“Joey, you can go. I’ll have someone deliver the pendant tomorrow morning,” Hailey said.

She expected Joey to insist on waiting.

But Joey simply nodded and left without hesitation.

Hailey realized she had been manipulated.
