This diamond ring was a symbol of love in Wesley’s heart, but in the eyes of that lady, it might have been troublesome.
“Continue expounding.”
“Yes.”
Joey took a deep breath and began to divulge the pivotal details.
“The diamond ring ought to have been escorted by security.”
“Who knows what Mr. Cooper was thinking back then? He took the ring to the airport.”
“On the way, we encountered an accident, which caught us off guard.”
“We were rescued, yet the ring vanished without a trace.”
“Mr. Cooper was still lucid at the time. He instructed me to call the police and search for the ring.”
“The authorities classified the occurrence as a heinous act of robbery and homicide.”
Sandra’s brow furrowed.
“However, everyone’s attention was focused on the car accident and Mr. Cooper’s condition. The matter of the ring became shrouded in secrecy.”
“Considering this incident’s criminal nature, the authorities demanded utmost confidentiality regarding the leads, hence… only a few are privy to the ring.”
Sandra had already completed her recollection of the family members.
When Holly unveiled the ring, an expression of astonishment was etched on every person’s face.
Perhaps due to the ring having vanished into thin air after the auction, its reappearance in Holly’s possession held a tremendous impact.
When they mentioned reporting the incident to the police, those around her were still astounded.
Besides these, no other noteworthy details emerged. If one of the Coopers orchestrated Wesley’s accident, the perpetrator must have possessed an unparalleled talent for deceit.
“Joey.”
“Yes?”
“Have you checked his car after the accident?”
Joey shook his head.
“Due to its involvement in a criminal case, the authorities impounded the car.”
As he relayed this, something seemed to have crossed his mind.
“Madam, do you suspect that the car was tampered with?”
Sandra refrained from answering.
A trace of animosity appeared on Joey’s face.
“I shall investigate forthwith. If it’s an intentional act, that perpetrator must pay.”
Sandra did not stop him.
Wesley had not only encountered an accident but had also been poisoned.
Even in the absence of the accident, he would still have been vegetative.
Allowing Joey to investigate could potentially yield some interesting reactions from that perpetrator.
Having listened to such a long story, weariness began to overtake her.
She yawned and turned around, only to see Wesley opening the bedroom door.
Delving into others’ privacy is undeniably deplorable.
Yet being caught in the act didn’t bring a shred of shame to Sandra.
In fact, she strode over.
“Mr. Cooper.”
Her voice betrayed no particular emotion.
Wesley’s eyebrows lifted slightly.
“Hmm?”
“You’re quite the unruly patient.”
As Sandra continued, her expression turned solemn.
“At this rate, your illness will not be cured even in two years.”
The corners of Wesley’s lips suddenly curled.
Sandra frowned again.
“Aren’t you going to rest?”
Wesley’s lips moved.
“You’re particularly loquacious tonight.”
Sandra paused in surprise.
Though they had shared a room in the past, it was out of concern for Wesley’s unpredictable condition, ensuring prompt emergency care if needed. Hence, they conversed little.
Wesley offered a reminder.
“It’s OK to be talkative when you’re feeling guilty.”
Sandra…
She abruptly turned off the bedroom light.
Darkness enveloped them instantly.
The world fell silent.
Only their faint breaths were audible.
“Mr. Cooper, you are good.” Her words were soft.
“With just a sentence, you’re able to infuriate others.”
In the darkness, a silhouette moved swiftly.
Wesley closed his eyes briefly.
Then, he suddenly reached out his hand.
Her delicate hands fell into his larger ones.
Unconsciously, he tightened his grip.
Her body, emanating a light fragrance, was pulled closer. The fragrance intensified.
It diffused between their breaths.
Soon, the fragrance was absorbed into his heart.
Surrounding his heart, it constantly entangled in circles. His heart seemed to fight against this entanglement, pounding wildly.
In the tranquil night, his erratic and unsettling heartbeats vibrated to the point of numbness.
“Mr. Cooper.”
Her soft voice came from below his chin.
As Sandra spoke, her warmth toasted him.
His breathing grew erratic.
Unwittingly, the force in his hand intensified.
Her soft voice came again.
“Mr. Cooper, lie down now.”
Wesley’s back tensed.
“Hmm?”
Her tone, now laced with a hint of mockery, “The toxins are spreading rapidly.”
“I need to administer acupuncture.”
Wesley’s gaze became lucid in an instant.
The next moment, he felt warmth drop into his nose.
Instantly, the light in the room was turned back on.
He squinted reflexively.
In that moment, blood from his nose fell onto Sandra’s hand.
He released her hand quickly and turned to wipe his nosebleed.
Sandra comforted him,
“A nosebleed is nothing to worry about. Considering the strong medicines used during your medicated baths, nosebleeds are a normal reaction.”
Silently cleaning up, Wesley then lay down on the bed.
He closed his eyes.
Sandra thought, If he could be frightened to death by a mere nosebleed, I would totally laugh at him.
The following day, Debra sent a message to all employees, saying she had arranged a meeting with Mason to settle the issues.
This announcement invigorated the employees.
They lauded Debra as the company’s lucky star.
When Sandra arrived at work, an uninvited guest had appeared at the company.
At first, everyone merely sensed he was familiar. But soon, the identity of the visitor was revealed.
