Chapter 56 – Traitors Will Kneel Down

Abril felt a sharp headache, and suddenly the memories of everything that had happened while she was asleep came rushing back, the time she had spent in the darkness and her encounter with her mother.

Alessandro took her by the shoulders and asked, “Are you alright? Does anything hurt?”

Abril could see genuine concern in Alessandro’s eyes. She stretched out her hand and touched his cheek. He quickly pulled his hand away and said, “No, it’s dangerous.”

Abril knew exactly what Alessandro was referring to. She touched his face again and said, “It’s not, not anymore. My magic is no longer out of control.”

Alessandro’s eyes widened. Abril caressed his cheek and said, “You knew I possessed magic, didn’t you? That’s why you wanted me to learn the concepts of magic.”

“Did you know you had magic?”

Abril shook her head. “I didn’t know. While I was asleep, my mother told me.”

“Your mother?”

“I know it seems unbelievable, but I dreamed of her, and she told me my magic was out of control.”

Abril brushed her hair aside, showing her ears, and said, “She gave me these. She said they would limit my magic until I learn to control it.”

“Are you upset because I didn’t tell you?”

“No, if you didn’t, it was for a reason, right?”

“Yes.”

Abril’s stomach growled, and she said, “I’m starving. Could you ask for something to eat?”

“Yes, I’ll do it right away.”

When Alessandro left the room, he saw his brother by the door and said, “Abril has woken up.”

Cassian felt great relief knowing the princess had finally woken from her long sleep and asked, “Can I go in?”

“Of course, I’ll go ask for something to eat for her and ask Sirius to come check on her.”

“Has her magic stopped overflowing?”

“Yes, I don’t know exactly how, but she’s fine.”

Alessandro continued walking, and Cassian knocked on the door with his knuckles and asked, “Can

I come in?”

“Come in.”

Upon entering, Cassian stood by the door for a few minutes, looking at the princess sitting on the bed. He asked, “How are you?”

“Hungry, but fine.”

Cassian finished entering, and as he walked towards her, Abril noticed that Cassian was no longer limping. She said, “Your leg seems to be fine.”

“Yes, I think my leg is fine now.”

“I’m glad to hear that.”

“I’m glad to know you’ve woken up and are well. We were all very worried about you. Lessan didn’t leave your side for a moment, he wanted to be there when you woke up.”

“I’m sorry for making you all worry.”

“That doesn’t matter. The important thing is that you’re alright now.”

Alessandro found the butler in the hallway and told him that Abril had already woken up and to bring her something light to eat.

Then he went to look for Sirius, who was in the library reading books, trying to find a way to help the princess. When he saw Alessandro, he was very surprised, since he hadn’t left the princess’s side at all since she had been asleep.

“Has something happened?”

“Abril has woken up.”

“That’s good news.”

“Yes, it is, although what she said left me a bit concerned.”

“And what did the princess say?”

“She already knows she possesses magic. She said her mother told her and gave her some earrings to help her control her magic until she knows how to do it.”

“It’s not really that strange. I’ve heard that sometimes if a wizard’s spirit is strong enough, it can continue to exist without a physical body. It all depends on how much mana the wizard has and if there’s something keeping them in this world.”

“Abril’s mother died when she was a baby.”

“Surely her spirit clung to her daughter; it’s not very strange, actually.”

“I’d like you to check on her and make sure everything is okay with her magic.”

“I will do so.”

When Alessandro returned to the room, he found Cassian keeping her company. Sirius approached the Princess and asked her, “How are you feeling, Princess?”

“Hungry.”

“Your food will be here soon. Be patient, they won’t take long,” Alessandro replied.

Sirius took the Princess’s hand, and after checking that her pulse was back to normal, he checked that her magic was under control. He was very surprised to find that everything was fine.

“How is she?” Alessandro asked while looking at Abril.

“She’s fine, her magic is stable.”

Alessandro seemed relieved to hear Sirius confirm that Abril was okay.

Sirius felt out of place in that room, so he said to Cassian, “Prince Cassian, there’s something I’d like to discuss with you. Could we step out for a moment?”

“Of course.”

After Sirius and Cassian left, a maid entered with a tray of food. After delivering it, she left them alone.

Alessandro took the spoon to feed her, but Abril said, “I can manage on my own.”

“I know, but I want to do it. Open your mouth.”

Abril obeyed and opened her mouth. Alessandro fed her as if she were a small child. When the soup was finished, he peeled an apple for her and cut it into pieces. While doing so, Alessandro asked her, “Did your mother tell you anything else about your magic?”

“Yes, she sealed my magic so my father wouldn’t use me as a weapon. She did it to protect me.”

When Abril said that, Alessandro felt miserable because he had thought of doing the same with her, using her to win the war. Abril continued speaking.

“Apparently, one of the seals has broken, which is why my magic went out of control.”

“How did one of the seals break?”

“I think it was when we made love. For a moment, our heartbeats became one. I think it was at that moment.”

Abril took a piece of apple and put it in her mouth. Alessandro paused, trying to process what Abril was telling him.

She continued saying, “I always thought I was alone, but I was wrong. My mother has always been with me. I think that’s one of the reasons why, despite everything I went through when I was young, I didn’t die. She was taking care of me even when I couldn’t see her. You know, I had never seen my mother’s face because there was no portrait of her in the palace, but I could see her while I was unconscious. She was very beautiful, with blonde hair, as beautiful as threads of gold, and her eyes, I seem to have inherited them from her.”

Alessandro, seeing Abril so happy to have met her mother, said to her, “I’m so glad you got to meet her.”

“I am too, and I’m glad my mother sealed my magic when I was born because if she hadn’t, my father would never have let me leave the kingdom of Laios. He thought he was getting rid of wife.” someone useless. I’m glad it was that way; thanks to that, I’m your

“I wasn’t very kind when I met you, and for a while, I…”

Abril gave him a soft kiss on the lips and said, “That doesn’t matter anymore, because now I’m happy being by your side. I love you.”

“You love me?”
