“That’s the only reason you stayed conscious, huh?”
“It’s just a scratch. I’ll stitch it myself.”
“You’re not stitching anything,” she said flatly. “I’ll do it.”
It wasn’t ideal-but she could manage.
“Same as sewing fabric, right?” she muttered.
Nolan said nothing.
Within minutes, a robot delivered everything she’d ordered-disinfectants, coagulants, painkillers, even sterile surgical thread.
“This’ll sting a little,” she warned.
She carefully removed the makeshift bandage and began disinfecting the wound.
Nolan’s brow beaded with sweat from the sting of the alcohol, but he didn’t make a sound.
Focused, Elena worked with steady hands-cleaning, medicating, then stitching the wound closed.
Despite the blood, the tension, and the sterile smell of medical supplies, her fingers never trembled.
Once everything was over, Nolan’s tensed body relaxed, and he leaned against the sofa. “Thanks.”
“You’d better say less.”
Elena tidied up everything and said, “You’re just a high-schooler-why did you get followed? Also, what’s up with your scars? Why are you dressed like this today?” Elena remembered that Nolan left earlier today before the school ended.
The teacher was fine with it-Nolan enrolled into this school by pulling some strings, and he was also the top student. As long as he didn’t create any trouble, the class teacher wouldn’t care.
“Don’t you think you ask too many questions?” Nolan asked. “It’s no big deal. Just random fights with the thugs.”
“Dressed like this to fight with thugs?” Elena wasn’t a three-year-old kid; she wasn’t easily deceived. And she knew Nolan was hiding something.
But Noland didn’t want to say so Elena didn’t ask. She said, “Take off your coat. I’ll wash it for you.”
“No. Just throw it away.”
“It’s a handmade custom-made coat. You’re gonna throw it away just like that?” Elena felt that this suit was almost tens of thousands; it was not cheap.
But based on Nolan’s identity, it wasn’t strange for him to be able to wear this set of suit.
“Are you taking it off or not? If not, I’ll strip you.” Elena acted like she was going to take off his clothes. Nolan was weak now-he couldn’t stop Elena. After a short moment, Elena had already taken off his clothes.
“That’s much better.”
Nolan was speechless. He was also semi-naked.
Elena also noticed it when she took off Nolan’s coat. He had a very good physique.
Seeing this scene, Elena shifted her gaze. Oh Elena, we don’t do younger guys.
“I… I’ll wash it.”
“Can’t wash it with water. Just leave it-I’ll ask someone to handle it tomorrow.”
“Alright… If I spoil it, I can’t pay you back either.” To cover up her awkwardness, she added, “Also, I… I haven’t finished my homework. I’ll head back to school.”
“Do you think you can still go back?”
It was already late, and the school had a curfew. It was impossible for her to enter the dorms at this time.
“Stay the night. I’ll sleep on the sofa.”
“No. You’re injured-your abdominal wound might open up again if you sleep on the sofa.” Elena frowned. “I’ll take it as caring for the wounded tonight. Don’t move. I’ll help you to the bed.”
Then, Elena walked to Nolan and helped him from the sofa.
Nolan’s entire body was almost leaning on Elena’s back. Elena felt her body tense up-she could feel the man’s body temperature.
Nolan said, “I can walk myself.”
“No. I just stitched your wound. If it opens up again, I’ll need to stitch it up again.” Elena paused, and added, “I don’t have such stable hands all the time.”
Slowly, Elena helped him to the bed. She also packed her bag and took out her homework, placing them on the study desk. “I’ll do my homework, you sleep. I’ll take a leave for you from the teacher tomorrow.”
Nolan stared at Elena’s side profile for a while and responded with a low voice, “I can’t do shit alone here tomorrow.”
“Where’s your family?”
Nolan remained silent.
Elena looked at the homework in front of her, which wasn’t done at all, and then looked back at Nolan. Finally, she said, “I’ll take leave for both of us tomorrow-I’ll take care of you for a day, since after tomorrow, it’s the weekend.”
“Alright.”
Seeing that Nolan agreed, Elena also started doing her homework.
After a while, Nolan asked, “Did you go back to the Delaney family today?”
“How did you know?”
“That road leads in the direction of your house.”
“It was Sarah’s birthday. She asked me to go back with her.”
“And you just went?”
“Yeah.” Elena said indifferently, “I didn’t go back because of Sarah. I just wanted to ruin her mood a little. I’m not a saint.”
Upon hearing that, Nolan’s expression softened a bit.
“Then what about you? Why were you on the road near my house?” If Elena remembered correctly, the Delaney family lived in a wealthy neighborhood full of villas.
That neighborhood was home to many industry elites, and anyone wanting to live there had to go through an asset evaluation. If one’s personal assets didn’t reach at least a billion, one wouldn’t even qualify.
Nolan said calmly, “The more you ask, the worse it is for you. So my advice is don’t ask.”
Elena fell silent. True. There were too many secrets in this circle. The less she knew, the safer she was.
Seeing Elena didn’t continue to ask, Nolan slowly fell asleep.
The next day, at Westbrook High School.
During the PE class in the morning, Henry and Colton got together and started talking. “Do you know where Nolan went last night? Why is there no news at all? He even took a leave.”
“I don’t know,” Colton answered. “Sick, perhaps.”
Henry frowned. “If Nolan is sick, then what about Elena? Sick too? They’re both absent!”
Not far away, Zayden, who was keeping the volleyballs, was stunned as well. Elena and Nolan are both absent?
Zayden remembered that Elena was still fine last night.
Colton said casually, “Who knows? Maybe she was infected?”
“Zayden, what’s wrong?” Nearby, Sarah inched toward Zayden and said, “The PE teacher asked you to send the items.”
Zayden frowned. “Sarah, do me a favor and help me. I have something to handle.”
“Zayden!”
Sarah couldn’t stop Zayden-he had already rushed toward the female dorms.
“Do you think Elena’s really sick with a fever? Otherwise, why is she absent?”
Henry and Colton’s conversation reached Sarah. She also noticed that both Elena and Nolan were absent. Did Zayden go to look for Elena?
The thought made Sarah clench her fists. Elena, you snake. Saying you don’t like Zayden, but secretly scheming to seduce him behind everyone’s back!
Meanwhile, Zayden had already arrived at the entrance of the girls’ dorm.
The dorm matron was just about to start cleaning when Zayden stepped forward and asked, “Ma’am, I’m looking for Elena. Is she sick?”
“Elena?” The middle-aged lady thought for a moment. “I think she wasn’t around during last night’s room check. Maybe she went home?”
“She wasn’t there? She didn’t come back all night?”
Zayden looked anxious. The dorm matron said, “I remember she mentioned last night that she had something to do and would be back late. Then she asked your teacher for leave. Your teacher already called me this morning. Apparently, she does have a fever, but she’s not in the dorm.”
Zayden’s heart sank. He had seen Elena leaving the Delaney family yesterday-there was no way she went back there. Which meant she spent the night somewhere else! The thought made him uncomfortable, and he rushed out of the girls’ dorm.
On the other side, Henry and Colton were packing up equipment when Zayden ran straight toward them. “You!”
Henry frowned. “What do you want?”
“Where did Nolan take Elena?” Zayden’s voice was cold.
People nearby overheard Zayden’s question and turned to watch.
Henry found it amusing. He placed the equipment on the ground and looked Zayden. “What does it have to do with you where Nolan and Elena went? You talk like Nolan kidnapped her or something.”
“Didn’t he?” Zayden’s face darkened. “Elena never came back to the dorm last night! And now both Nolan and Elena are on leave today-if Nolan didn’t take her, then who? If he did anything to her, I swear I won’t let him off!”
“Zayden!”
Sarah, who had just returned from dropping off the equipment, saw the scene and immediately rushed over to Zayden in a panic. “Zayden, I’ve been looking all over for you! What are you doing here? Let’s just go back to class.”
Class 6 wasn’t a group to mess with, and Sarah didn’t want Zayden getting involved with this crowd of delinquents.
