Chapter 15 – Cheated On Me? I Married a Tycoon (Ayla) Novel Read Online

“Shut your mouth, Kristal,” Axel snapped, his voice ragged and unhinged. “If you ruin this dinner tonight, the board will fire us both. Just smile and look pretty.”

Ayla stopped the cart in the shadows just outside the door. She reached into her pocket and withdrew a small black USB drive.

She crouched beside the wall and popped open the plastic cover of the hotel’s central media routing port – the one connected directly to the ballroom’s AV system. She plugged the drive in. A tiny green light blinked to life.

Ayla straightened up, gripped the handle of the laundry cart, and walked away into the darkness.

The trap was set. Now she just had to wait for the explosion.

The Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria was a sea of crystal chandeliers, clinking champagne glasses, and the low murmur of Silicon Valley’s most ruthless venture capitalists.

At 8:15 PM, Axel Farrell stepped up to the mahogany podium at the front of the room. He wore a bespoke tuxedo and flashed his signature warm, trustworthy smile – the perfect mask of the visionary CEO.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Axel began, his voice projecting smoothly through the state-of-the-art sound system. “Despite the noise in the media, Farrell Tech remains the gold standard of integrity and innovation…”

Before he could finish, the massive oak double doors at the back of the ballroom were violently shoved open. The crash echoed like a gunshot. The entire room went dead silent, and hundreds of heads turned.

Cassius Gilliam stood in the doorway.

He wore a pitch-black double-breasted suit that made him look like a warlord stepping onto a battlefield. The air around him practically vibrated with lethal intent. Marcus and four other guards flanked him.

Axel’s smile froze. The color drained from his face.

“Cassius,” he forced out, his voice trembling slightly. “This is a private event. Security!”

Cassius ignored him. He walked slowly down the center aisle, his heavy footsteps echoing on the marble floor. The billionaire investors parted before him, too unsettled by his presence to stand in his way. He stopped in the middle of the room and looked up at Axel with eyes full of absolute contempt.

High above the ballroom, standing in the pitch-black shadows of the AV control booth, Ayla watched Cassius take his position.

She pulled a small black remote from her pocket and pressed the red button.

On the main stage, the massive LED screen behind Axel flickered violently. The Farrell Tech logo vanished. A piercing burst of static blasted through the speakers, making several investors cover their ears.

Then a crystal-clear audio recording began to play.

“Push the narrative harder!” Axel’s voice boomed through the ballroom. “Tie the money laundering scandal to her! Make the internet believe Cassius Gilliam is using cartel money to fund his high-end prostitute!”

A collective gasp rippled through the room.

Axel lunged at the podium microphone, trying to cut the feed – but the system was locked.

The recording continued.

“But sir,” Jared’s voice followed, tight with panic. “The offshore accounts the tabloids are using – those are our accounts. If the SEC looks too closely at that fabricated cartel money, they’ll find the three hundred million we embezzled from the R&D fund to cover the fake revenue numbers!”

“Then bury it!” Axel’s voice roared. “Falsify the Q3 audits!”

The recording stopped.

The silence in the ballroom was absolute.

It wasn’t a PR scandal anymore. It was federal financial fraud.

Axel gripped the edges of the podium, his knuckles white, his chest heaving. Around him, venture capitalists were already pulling out their phones, frantically calling their brokers to dump Farrell stock. The journalists in the room typed like maniacs.

Cassius stood in the center of the chaos, his hands resting casually in his pockets.

“Checkmate, Axel,” he said softly, but his voice carried perfectly across the silent room. “Enjoy federal prison.”

Axel let out a guttural scream of rage, turned, and bolted off the stage toward the kitchen exits, his bodyguards scrambling after him.

Cassius didn’t chase him. He turned his head, his sharp eyes scanning the upper balconies. A brief flash of movement near the AV booth – a shadow slipping out the door.

He broke into a sprint immediately, shoving past a waiter and taking the carpeted stairs two at a time. He kicked the AV booth door open.

The small room was empty. The monitors glowed in the dark.

Cassius looked down at the control board.

Resting precisely on top of the master volume slider was a plain, heavy-stock note card – the exact kind she had pressed against Jared’s chest in the rain. He picked it up and rubbed the thick paper between his thumb and forefinger.

It was blank. An empty stage after the performance.

A low, dark chuckle rose from his chest. She had used him as the sword, and she had been the invisible hand swinging it.

Vance ran into the booth, breathless. “Sir, the police are arriving for Farrell. Should we lock down the building to find the hacker?”

Cassius stared at the blank card. His eyes darkened with an intense, consuming possessiveness.

“No,” he murmured, slipping the card into his breast pocket alongside her driver’s license. “Let her run. She’ll come to me when she’s ready to collect.”

Down at street level, Ayla walked out of the service alley into the cold night air. She pulled off the surgical mask and dropped it into a trash can, then hailed a yellow cab and climbed inside.

She pulled out her phone and watched the news alerts flood the screen. Farrell Tech stock was in freefall. The SEC had just announced an emergency investigation.

Axel was destroyed.

Ayla leaned her head back against the seat and closed her eyes. A small, genuine smile touched her lips for the first time.

She had burned her past to the ground. Tomorrow, she would walk into the Gilliam Group and claim her throne.

The pale morning light pierced through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Farrell Manor on the Upper East Side.

The first phase of her vengeance was complete, the digital destruction of Farrell Tech already echoing through the financial markets. But Ayla knew that to truly sever her ties and vanish, she had to return to the gilded cage one last time. She needed to retrieve the few items that belonged to Ayla Joyce – before the catastrophic fallout reached Axel, leaving him nothing of her to hold onto.

She pushed open the heavy oak front doors. The chilled air of the foyer hit her skin. She moved silently, her flat shoes making no sound against the marble floor. She knew the security team’s exact schedule. The night shift was exhausted, and the day shift hadn’t clocked in yet. She had a thirty-minute window.

She walked straight down the long carpeted hallway and pushed open the door to the master suite.

The room smelled of expensive lavender spray and suffocating memories. Ayla looked at the massive ornate bed in the center of the room. Her chest felt completely hollow – no sadness, no anger. Only a cold, clinical need to erase herself from this space.

She dropped to her knees at the edge of the bed and pulled a large black suitcase from beneath the frame.
