(Johnnie)
I rushed down the hospital hallway, my heart practically beating out of my chest as I glanced over at Viva.
“I hope we don’t miss it.” I stated, watching as Viva smiled at me before grabbing my hand and squeezing it.
“Don’t worry, these things take time..especially for the first..and considering there are two of them…” Viva trailed off and I nodded my head in understanding.
When we found out that Robin was expecting not one, but two babies, it was a shock to us all. But I have a feeling Robin herself was the most shocked out of everyone. She was so nervous about the whole process and even asked both Viva and me to be there with her and Ben in the room.
Usually, they only allow two people, but Viva just so happened to know the doctor and was able to sway her.
Once I received the call from Ben that Robin’s water had broken, Viva and I raced to get here. I knew I had to be here for Ben..this was such a huge moment in his life and there was no way I was going to miss it.
This past year has been such a whirlwind and I couldn’t be happier for my brother..I can’t believe he is going to be a dad. It seems so surreal.
We walked towards a waiting room outside of labor and delivery as my brother and dad were standing next to one another.
“How is she?” Viva asked excitedly before glancing between the two and hugging Ben first and then my Dad.
“She is okay, I think the contractions are beginning..They are just doing an exam now. She wanted me to go get a few things from the car while they do.” My brother informed us as I quickly wrapped my arms around his waist before hugging tight.
“Are you doing okay?” I asked, peering up as I realized his eyes were filled with worry as he nodded and hugged me back.
“Yeah..it’s all just setting in now.” He admitted, making me nod before pulling back.
“Everything is going to go great. Robin will get through this and you two are going to finally meet those precious babies.” I encouraged him, making my brother let out a shuddering breath as I knew his emotions were running high.
“Thanks Jo..for being here and doing this for her. It really means a lot.” Ben stated and I felt like I could cry.
“Of course..I’m always here for you guys. And Robin is my sister now..” I smiled, causing Ben to return it before pulling away fully.
“I better go get the stuff. I don’t want to miss anything.” He stated and before I knew it, I was left with my Dad and Viva as Ben ran down the hallway.
“Hey Jojo..how’s Cas doing?” My dad asked, making me fight a sigh that wanted to escape me.
To be honest..Caspian and I were kinda sorta fighting right now..well..not exactly fighting, but I was mad.
Apparently he sent out a recording of my song that I made for him to a music school not too far away.
I mean..it has always been one of my dream schools..but how could he do something like that behind my back?! I mean seriously!! Now the school is interested in meeting with me and I don’t know what to do..I’m just frustrated about the whole thing.
Ben called when we were in the middle of a heated discussion and now here I am.
I felt my phone going off a few times since leaving but I didn’t want to be distracted by this. My brother and Robin needed me and whatever drama was going on in my life could wait..especially for the birth of my future nieces.
Yep..the babies were going to be girls. Everyone was so thrilled to find out the gender. I knew Ben didn’t mind either way, he was just happy to know and Robin..well she screamed when she heard the news. She always wanted a daughter to dress up and be her mini-me..well, now she gets two.
“He’s doing okay…do you think you might be able to keep him updated for me, Dad? I don’t want to be on my phone too much while in there.” I made the excuse..I mean..it wasn’t fully a lie..I really shouldn’t be on my phone in there.
“Viva, Robin is ready for you.” An older woman suddenly said, she had blonde hair up in a ponytail and was wearing light blue scrubs.
“Mandy, how is she doing?” Viva asked curiously before walking towards the woman when I realized this must’ve been the doctor. I think they knew each other through mutual friends or something.
“Well, she is at about a four now, it’s progressing at a pretty good rate, we will know more in the hour but the babies are nice and stable now.” The doctor explained as we began walking through the doors.
I turned and waved goodbye to my dad as we headed towards Robin’s room.
The closer we got, the more nervous I became. I have never done something like this..but I did watch a few videos and read up on stuff just so I knew how to help Robin.
But man..I knew it would be intense.
The doctor knocked on the door softly as the sound of groaning drifted from under the door.
“Robin, your family is here now.” Mandy said as we stepped into the dimly lit room.
“Oh thank god..I’m ready for the epidural now..please.” Robin panted, making me blink my eyes rapidly as the Doctor let out a soft chuckle.
“I see the contractions are picking up. Okay, I will get them in here in a little bit.” The doctor said, making Robin groan before laying her head back onto the pillow.
Viva and I quickly went to her side, my hand grabbing hers as I looked at her worriedly.
“How are you feeling? Do you want me to get you some water?” I asked, making Robin nod yes as I saw her wince before the machine beside her began to make some type of noise.
“Okay, here comes another one. Grab my hand sweetie..grip it nice and tight. Remember the breathing.” Viva said as Robin nodded her head up and down before taking a few deep breaths and letting them out quickly.
“Good, it’s almost done..” Viva whispered, and I watched as Robin shut her eyes tight, trying to get through the pain.
That’s when the door burst open and Ben ran in with a backpack in his hands.
“How’s she doing?! I didn’t miss anything did I?” He asked hastily, making Robin sigh before whimpering.
“Just some pretty hard contractions.” Viva informed him as Ben rushed to Robin’s side and began kissing her head before rubbing her arms gently.
I watched as Robin calmed immensely, my brother catering to her and being so sweet as he held her hands and rubbed her back or arms as she went through the pain.
I saw how he seemed to go through it with her, the worry on his face making my heart ache as I saw how much he truly loved her.
We had been there for six hours before things really picked up..then it was time.
My brother was right there by Robin’s side as we all praised her for doing such a great job. She was so strong and didn’t give up once..she pushed through it like a champ and by the end of it..we saw the reward for all of that pain.
The first cry was one I will never forget..my eyes were glued to this small little human as my heart swelled with happiness..but what was even greater was seeing my brother’s face when he laid eyes on his daughter for the first time.
