I quickly ran my fingers through my long blonde hair and let out a deep breath.
You can do this..you are Johnnie King..and if it doesn’t work out, that’s fine too.
I nodded to myself once and stepped forward, walking towards the large building and heading for the front doors.
The moment I walked inside, I was met with a security checkpoint, and walked up to it nervously.
My eyes landed on a young man who was standing beside some sort of badge-scanning machine as I nervously began to approach him.
“Um, hello..my name is Johnnie King and it’s my first day.” I stated, trying not to seem too intimidated.
The man looked me over carefully before glancing back towards a desk to the side.
“Walk over there and speak with Mike, he will get you checked in.”
I smiled in response and did what he instructed, walking towards the desk quickly.
“Hello, today is my first day..” I began, speaking to an older man with salt and pepper hair.
“I’m going to need your I.D.” He interrupted, making me fish around in my purse and pull out my wallet.
I handed it over, seeing the man study my I.D. before glancing up at me and back down.
“King huh?” He asked, making my eyes widen before I nodded nervously. Oh god..did he know about all the drama with Dave or something? Wouldn’t be the first time we ran into someone who was screwed over by Dave King and disgruntled about it.
“My boy Evan plays with your husband on the college team.” He stated, making my mouth open in surprise as I soon smiled brightly.
“Evan Cooper?” I asked, making Mike nod his head happily.
“Yep, that’s the one. He’s a pain in my ass most of the time but when it comes to hockey, it keeps him in line.” He laughed, making me join in as we made some more small talk and I was eventually given a badge to enter into the building.
I waved at Mike happily before scanning my badge and walking through the metal detectors. Maybe this won’t be so bad after all. At least I seemed to meet someone friendly so far..I hope the rest of my coworkers will be like that.
I rounded a corner, trying to find my way to where I was supposed to go when I suddenly ran smack dab into someone. The collision caused me to go stumbling back and almost land flat on my ass..but before I could, I felt someone grab onto my waist, stopping me mid-fall.
I glanced up, surprise filling me as a pair of brown eyes were now peering down at me.
“I am so sorry. I didn’t see you there.” I rushed out, feeling embarrassed as this man continued to hold onto me.
I swear he just stood there…not saying a word for a good thirty seconds.
“Umm..I didn’t hurt you did I?” I asked worriedly..hoping Ididn’t cause him to hit his head or something.
That’s when the man seemed to finally snap out of whatever trance he seemed to be in. His hand loosened from around my waist before he cleared his throat and straightened his back.
“What’s your name?” The man barked, making me flinch by the tone of his voice.
“Johnnie King.” I answered, wondering if I would be let go on my first day already.
That’s when I noticed a small red-haired woman step out from behind the rather large man. She was holding a tablet and flashed it to him quickly.
“The new intern.” The man mumbled, making me nod once as I tried not to show how nervous I was.
“Sir, the meeting..we don’t want to be late.” The redhead whispered, her blue eyes snapping towards me before a scowl set on her face.
What was her problem? Not like I did this on purpose.
The man turned his head back towards me, his eyes traveling up and down my body quickly before meeting my gaze.
“Mrs. King, I do hope you watch where you are going in the future..you never know who you might be running into.” He said firmly and stepped to the side before walking off.
Okay..that was weird..who was that guy anyway?! He seemed like a freaking jerk.
I scurried down the hall, trying to find where I was supposed to go when I finally spotted it..thank god..but what I wasn’t expecting was seeing a familiar face when I got in there.
What the heck was she doing here?!
(Johnnie)
The moment I stepped into the room, I froze. My eyes landing on a petite blonde as she seemed to have the same reaction as me.
“Johnnie?”
Crap..it is her..Ava Wilson..Caspian’s ex-girlfriend. Just great..I haven’t seen her since changing schools. But why was she here?
“Um hey.” I said awkwardly before mustering up a smile and walking in.
“Are you interning here too?” She suddenly asked before stepping towards me and smiling.
“Yes, today is my first day.” I explained, and that’s when Ava said something I never expected.
“Oh thank god..at least I know someone here now.” She rushed out, relief seeming to fill her as she glanced behind her shoulder.
“The people here aren’t exactly welcoming..when my step-dad offered me the internship..I hadn’t realized I would be working directly under my stepbrother..” She grumbled and I couldn’t help but wonder when the hell Ava became so damn chatty, especially towards me.
Did she get amnesia or something and forget we didn’t like one another? She pretty much bullied me most of the time at school and always talked shit about Cas after we got married.
I mean..she never really said anything to my face..but I still heard the rumors.
Before I could respond, a woman with black hair tied up into a neat bun came walking over. She had on a black dress and wore red-framed glasses.
“You must be Johnnie King I presume?” She asked, making me nod as the woman introduced herself.
