Chapter 13 – The Goddess’s Rise From Prison To Power

“I understand.”

The next day-

Scarlett checked the time. Dr. Nyx should be landing any minute.

“Howard, stay here. I’m heading to the airport to pick him up.”

“I can drive you,” Howard offered immediately.

Scarlett shook her head as she opened the car door. “I beat up Colin yesterday. He’s not the type to let that go. Stay here and keep an eye on my family.”

Howard hesitated, then nodded. “Got it.”

The moment Dr. Nyx stepped off the plane, he pulled out his phone and called Scarlett.

“Kid, you there yet?”

“Traffic’s bad. Five minutes.”

“Alright, I’ll wait.”

He hung up and, with nothing better to do, started scrolling through videos on his phone.

A minute later, he sensed someone approaching.

“Finally took you long enou-“

He looked up.

Not her.

Instead, a tall, sharply dressed man stood in front of him-composed, imposing.

Dr. Nyx frowned. “And you are?”

“Theron Cross.”

The name clicked instantly.

So this was the man-CEO of the Cross Corp.

Dr. Nyx’s expression cooled. “You’ve got quite the network. Tracking my flight like that.”

He didn’t bother hiding his irritation.

He’d never had patience for people he didn’t like.

Rhys stiffened slightly at the tone, but held himself back. The young master’s condition mattered more.

Theron met Dr. Nyx’s gaze, his voice steady.

“My son is critically ill. I’ve consulted every specialist I could find-none of them could help. Tracking you down wasn’t my first choice, but I had no other options.”

He paused, his tone lowering.

“He’s only four years old.”

“I’m asking you to take the case. Whatever you want in return-I’ll make it happen.”

Dr. Nyx leaned back on the bench, one leg crossed over the other, completely unmoved.

“I hear that line every day,” he said, not even looking at him. “Everyone who comes begging says the same thing.”

He waved a hand dismissively.

“I already gave you my answer. No.”

Rhys stepped forward, anger flashing-but

Theron lifted a hand, stopping him cold.

Rhys froze, then stepped back immediately.

Theron’s gaze returned to Dr. Nyx, colder now.

“My son won’t make it much longer.”

Still no response.

Dr. Nyx didn’t even look up, already back to scrolling on his phone.

Silence stretched.

Then-

“Alright,” Theron said calmly. “Don’t take this the wrong way.”

He tilted his head slightly toward Rhys.

Rhys understood instantly and stepped forward.

Dr. Nyx’s head snapped up. “What are you doing?!”

He tried to get up, but at his age, he was no match for Rhys.

“Let go of me! You hear me?! Let go, you little punk-!”

He struggled, cursed, shouted-

And still got shoved straight into the car.

Just as Scarlett pulled into the airport-

She saw it.

Someone was forcing Dr. Nyx into a vehicle.

Her eyes sharpened instantly.

Kidnapping?

Not happening.

She slammed the gas and took off after them, engine roaring as the car surged forward like a bullet.

Inside the car-

Rhys glanced at the rearview mirror.

“Sir, we’ve got a tail.”

Dr. Nyx twisted around to look.

A black Jeep.

His eyes lit up.

“There she is!”

Relief flooded through him.

Finally-backup.

He straightened immediately, confidence returning.

“Kid, I suggest you let me out now,” he said, glaring at Theron. “Walk away, and I might forget this ever happened.”

He smirked.

“But if my friend catches up to you…”

He shook his head.

“You won’t like how that ends.”

Now that Scarlett was here, he had nothing to worry about.

After all-

She wasn’t just anyone.

She was the Empire’s top combat force.

The leader of the Obsidian Unit.

He’d never seen her lose.

Not once.

Rhys was good-very good.

But compared to her?

Not even close.

Theron remained completely unfazed.

Sunlight filtered through the window, casting sharp lines across his features, highlighting the calm control in his expression.

Cold. Composed. Untouchable.

Dr. Nyx glanced at him again, a hint of reluctant approval crossing his face.

Not bad.

No wonder he was running the Cross family.

Still-

That didn’t change anything.

“You can forget it,” Dr. Nyx muttered. “Even if you drag me there, I’m not treating your son.”

If he gave in now, he might as well change his last name.

Five minutes later-

Rhys checked the mirror again.
