Chapter 13 – Traitors Will Kneel Down

Abril thought that Alessandro was going to leave, but he stood, staring at her from head to toe, and said,

“You must return to the palace, you will no longer play in this place.”

“No, why?”

“If I have done something to upset Your Majesty, I ask for forgiveness,” she said.

Abril knelt down and began to cry and said,

“Please, Your Majesty, do not force me to return to the palace.”

“Anything but that, I will do.”

“Please I do not want to go back.” She pleaded.

“Get up!”

“Up until now, I have allowed you to do whatever you want, but that’s over.”

“You must take your place in the royal palace.”

“Although I don’t like the fact that you are my wife, you must give me a child.

“After that you can do whatever you want with your life,” he said.

“A child?!” Abril asked.

“Yes, so get up.”

“I don’t intend to continue arguing,” he said.

Alessandro began to walk away, Abril called him and said.

“Your Majesty, please wait a moment.

“I said I didn’t intend to continue arguing.” He replied.

“Please Your Majesty, let me stay here a little longer, at least during the day.”

“At night, I will return to the palace.” She said.

“No.” Said Alessandro as he started walking again. Abril couldn’t bear the idea of becoming a prisoner again. After having a glimpse of freedom, she felt like she would die if she returned to being a prisoner. She used her last card since the pleas hadn’t worked.

“Please Your Majesty, you owe me this,” She said.

I don’t want to be a prisoner

Alessandro stopped, turned around, and looked at her as if he wanted to kill her.

Abril felt her legs weaken, she was very afraid, but still gathered the courage to continue speaking.

“I once saved your life.”

“If you feel even a little grateful, let me stay in this place, even if it’s just during the day,” she pleaded.

“Alright, I will allow you to come back here during the day, but you will sleep in the palace, and once you become pregnant, it will end, you will stay in the palace until you give birth, then you can do whatever you want.” He replied.

“Yes!” Abril screamed excitedly.

Alessandro left after his last words. Abril stood there looking at the place she had called home for three years. She knew it wouldn’t last forever, but in her heart, she had fervently wished for it to.

Abril stepped aside and let them go ahead. She didn’t want to be in the king’s line of sight, his terrifying and cold gaze made her tremble with fear and wonder at what moment he would grab her neck and kill her.

“I’d better try to go unnoticed.” “He doesn’t seem to be in a good mood.”

Abril said as she walked behind them without making any noise.

In the temple, there was a priest waiting for them. He bowed before Alessandro and Cassian, completely ignoring Abril. The priest guided them to a room where there was a large glass sphere.

Abril had already been through this once. At the age of six, her father had taken her to the temple to find out what type of magic she possessed, as her magic hadn’t manifested yet. But she was greatly disappointed when they said she didn’t possess any magic. That was the beginning of a life filled with pain for Abril.

While the priest explained what they had to do, Abril wondered if she would go through the same thing again. If the king would treat her the same way her father did if it turned out that she didn’t possess magic.

Abril got lost in her thoughts. Cassian touched her shoulder to get her attention and said to her,

“Abril, you have to touch the sphere.”

Alessandro let out a sigh, looking annoyed.

“Don’t waste our time,” he said.

Abril touched the sphere with some fear. And just like in the past, the sphere didn’t react, confirming what had already been said, that she didn’t possess magic. Cassian was astonished. Alessandro, very angry, grabbed her arm so forcefully that she, cried out in pain.

“Is this a joke?”

“Are you truly king Venobich’s daughter?” he questioned.

Alessandro continued squeezing her arm, and she began to cry due to the pain he was causing her. She felt like he was going to crush her arm. Alessandro was so furious that she wondered if her end had arrived, if he would kill her.

Cassian intervened upon seeing his brother hurting Abril.

“Alessandro, let her go.”

“You’re hurting her,” he said.

Alessandro ignored his brother’s words, kept squeezing tightly, and asked in a voice filled with anger and rage:

“Tell me who you are.”

Cassian used his magic to separate Alessandro from Abril. Alessandro was left stunned. His brother had attacked him to defend Abril.Cassian spoke firmly like he had never done before. .

“Enough, Brother!”

Abril had lost strength in her legs, she fell to the ground and, with a trembling voice, said,

“Even if His Majesty doesn’t believe me, I am the daughter of King Venobich, that is not a lie.”

“All members of royalty are born with magic.”

“How is it possible that you don’t possess magic?” He asked.

“I don’t know, my father was also very surprised when he found out that I was born without magic, but the color of my hair is proof that I am my father’s daughter, a seed of king Venobich.” She replied.

Cassian was between Alessandro and Abril. He was protecting her with his body. A few months ago, Cassian had insisted on killing Abril. Alessandro wondered how his brother had ended up changing his mind and becoming the princess’s protector.

Alessandro had a mix of conflicting feelings about what had happened. He turned around and said,

“I will send another carriage for you.”

After Alessandro left, Cassian helped Abril to her feet and asked her.

“Is your arm okay?”

Abril was still trembling, her arm hurt, but otherwise she was fine, so she replied.

“Yes, I’m fine.”

“Let me see it,” Cassian insisted.

Cassian looked at the princess’s arm, Alessandro had left finger marks on her and a bruise was starting to appear on her arm.

“Does it hurt?” He asked.

“I’ll be fine, thank you for defending me, I thought His Majesty was going to kill me.” Abril said.

“My brother was furious.” “All members of royalty possess magic, it’s rare for you to not possess any.” He said.
