Dean was at the door listening to Mark, “You don’t get it, do you? This was not forgetting to get something at the store, or accidently breaking something special. You have been cheating on her not just once, but multiple times. We are helping her because she deserves better. I may be your friend but you are the one that f**ked up.” Dean then picked up another box and continued loading the vehicles. “I have everything but the chair you wanted loaded, Jess. There is just enough room on the back of my truck and you still have a little room in your vehicle for what’s in your hotel room.”
“Great Dean, thanks for your help, the chair is in the living room and I am ready to go.” Dean walked to the room, grabbed her small arm chair and walked to his truck. While Amy and Dean covered the items in his truck and strapped them all in, Jess walked to the kitchen counter and started removing her key from her key chain. “I have already pulled half of the money from the savings account, I also let the bank know that I needed to be removed from the accounts. They have all of the documents ready for you to sign. I also gave them all the checks and my card because I am not on the account anymore. Take care of it whenever you want, but my part is done. I set the key on the counter and turned, “I know this is not what you want but this is what I need. I hope you find the woman that will make you happy because I obviously was not the one. Goodbye Mark.” I closed the door behind me and walked towards the vehicles, “Everything okay Jess?” Amy was looking at me with concern and walked over to me, giving me a hug.
I looked up at my two friends and smiled. “Yes, I am glad to have this finally done.” I just want to get on the road early tomorrow, can you both meet me at my hotel at 7 in the morning and we can get a bite to eat, then hit the road?” Both nodded and hopped in the truck agreeing to the time. Jess hopped in her car and started driving back to her hotel with the mission to get everything packed except what she would need in the morning.
This is it. This is the start of my new life, and it felt like there was a huge weight lifted from her shoulders.
I have finally made it to Georgia and I love my new home. Amy and Dean helped me get everything into my new home and even stayed until Sunday in order to help me get everything into place and even helped me shop at a resale shop for a cute bedroom set. We even found a great deal on a mattress set at a furniture store recommended by the owner of the resale shop. Dean helped me set up my bed and then looked around for anything else that needed to be set up while Amy and I set to work unpacking all my boxes. By Sunday night, Amy and Dean had left with the promise to visit soon and I was sitting in my apartment enjoying a glass of wine admiring my new place. While I will miss my coworkers and friends in Tennessee, I was looking forward to this new adventure and I had a great feeling about this.
As I enjoyed my wine, I was reading a book that had caught my eye at the resale shop. While I normally don’t get into supernatural books, there was something about this book that made me want to buy it. Normally, I would scoff at books about werewolves, vampires and fairies, but I think this new lease on life made me want to change up my normal fun reading material, at least for right now. As I moved into the next chapter, I heard my doorbell puzzled, I looked at my clock, wondering who would be ringing my bell at 8:00 at night. I opened my door to an extremely gorgeous man. He had wavy dark brown hair, a firm jaw, well built, but what really seemed to pull me in was his sky blue eyes that were both mesmerizing and kind. He looked at me with this brilliant smile saying, “Hello, I hope I am not bugging you too late? I live next door and I saw you moving in but I didn’t want to bug you since you seemed very busy the last couple days. I wanted to introduce myself, Morgan Mercer.” I looked down at the hand he had outstretched my way. “Hi, I am Jessie Bern, it is nice to meet you Morgan.” I shook his hand, and smiled politely.
Morgan pointed to the apartment to the left of mine and stated, “I live right next door if you ever need anything, besides working I don’t do much, so you probably can catch me anytime.” He seemed very nice, but I felt my walls going up, not wanting to get too close. This was supposed to be my fresh start and I also knew I was not ready to be too close to anyone. “Thank you Morgan, that is very sweet of you. I will keep that in mind if I need anything. I don’t mean to be rude, but I was getting ready to call it a night because I have to start my new job tomorrow.” I stepped back preparing to shut the door, Morgan nodded and turned around, then stopped suddenly and stated, “If you are new to town, I can show you around if you would like? I know all the best places in town, and I also know where you can find the best deals. You don’t have to answer now, but just think about it, okay?” I just nodded and shut the door with a big sigh. Why couldn’t I have moved in next to a sweet old lady? Why did it have to be a good-looking guy?
The next day went amazingly. The staff at the school were all nice and helped show me around the building. The principal was just as nice as when I had interviewed with him, and even made sure I got into all the necessary programs on my computer. I spent most of the day introducing myself to each of the students I would be working with, while also speaking to the teachers to start getting a schedule planned out. While my goal is to be there for the students and helping them, I also wanted to make sure I was not pulling them from class at a time that would affect their learning as well. The remainder of the day was spent organizing my office and preparing the student files to look through when I returned the next day. Mr. Fitch, the principal at Shabonna Middle School, told me to spend this week getting myself settled so I could start working with the students the following week. I was impressed with my office, not only was it spacious and while it held a desk and file cabinet, it also had an area with a table with a few chairs, a bean bag in the corner and a shelf system with different games and sensory items for the students. I had brought items of my own that I had collected over the last few years, but I was thankful they were also supplying items to help with my student sessions.
I made it home and kicked off my shoes, and threw my purse and keys on the chair by the door. I have had a wonderful day, but now I want my comfy clothes and to just sit and watch some TV. I have been addicted to the Netflix show, Virgin River, and I couldn’t wait to binge watch some of the episodes I fell behind on over the last few months. I ran upstairs and threw on my gray leggings and an oversized tee shirt from my dresser and then walked back down stairs to grab a glass of wine and a snack. I had just sat down and turned on my TV when I heard the doorbell. Sighing heavily, I walked to the door, opened it and there stood my neighbor yet again. “Sorry to bug you again, but I just wanted to give you this.” I looked down and it was a basket that held a bottle of Rhubarb wine (I had always wanted to try), popcorn, some M&M’s and some fresh fruit. I was speechless, he was being so sweet and I had never had anyone do this for me ever. “My mom always taught me that it is just good manners to welcome new neighbors.” He held it out for me to grab, and now I felt bad rushing him off last night.
