Chapter 15 – Traitors Will Kneel Down

“Get up, I know you’re awake.”

Abril stood up and immediately knelt down. She was scared because the king’s tone of voice was severe. She said to him:

“I’m sorry, Your Majesty, I have been disrespectful.”

“Please forgive me and spare my life.”

“I said stand up, not kneel.” The king replied.

Abril stood up, she was trembling and dared not to look him in the face.

“I’m not going to kill you, so stop trembling, it annoys me.” He said.

“I’m sorry, I…”

Abril couldn’t complete her sentence when Alessandro approached her and said,

“Look at me.”

Abril lifted her face fearfully, he had a calm look on his face, he didn’t seem upset despite the tone of his voice. He showed her his hand and asked her.

“You touched my wound?”

“No, Your Majesty, yesterday I fell asleep and didn’t notice when you arrived.”

“I just woke up a moment ago.”

“I see,” he replied.

Abril’s stomach growled again, she felt embarrassed, her face turned red.

“You must be hungry, I’ll have them bring you breakfast.” Alessandro said to her.

Alessandro was changing his clothes. While doing so, Abril watched him. She didn’t seem the least embarrassed, it bothered him a little and he said.

“You must be very used to seeing naked men, since you show no modesty when seeing me without clothes.”

“You’re mistaken, but is there any reason why I should feel ashamed?”

“I don’t find any.”

“Is it wrong to show oneself without clothes?” She asked innocently.

“What?” The king replied, shocked.

“I haven’t received a proper education, so there are some things I don’t handle very well.”

“I only know what I’ve learned from books.”

“In my books there were many scenes where the characters were naked and none of them felt ashamed.”

“On the contrary, it is said that one should be proud to show his or her body.”

“Your Majesty has a good body, so be proud of it.” She said.

Alessandro was shocked by the princess’s words and if she had told him that any other day, he would have thought she was deceiving him. However, after confirming that she didn’t possess magic, he realized that maybe she hadn’t had an easy life. He asked her.

“What was the name of the book you learned that from?”

“It was called, “During the nights of the full moon.” “There were three volumes,” Abril replied.

“Who gave you those books?” He asked.

“Nobody gave them to me.”

“I found them in the library of the little palace where I lived when I was a child.” She replied. Alessandro wanted to see what those books were about before saying anything else, so he walked to the door and said to her.

“I will tell the maids to come help you get dressed.”

“I don’t need them, I can change on my own,” she answered.

“Then I will just ask them to bring you breakfast,” he said.

“Thank you very much, Your majesty.” Abril replied.

Alessandro left and as he walked to his office, he asked the butler to bring breakfast for the princess and also asked him to find the books the princess had mentioned and take them to his office.

Alessandro read the books that the princess had mentioned to him. After reading them, he understood many things about the princess’s personality and at that moment he realized why the butler had acted somewhat strangely when he had handed him the books.

He looked at his hand. The night before, he had made sure to make a deep cut. However, that morning the wound was barely visible. He wanted to check that night if his wound would completely disappear and then, depending on the result, he would find out what kind of magic the princess possessed, since it was not detected by the power sphere.

Abril had eaten until she was full, then she had returned to her small house in the farthest part of the palace. On arriving, she was surprised to see Cassian. He asked her.

“Where have you been?”

“I was in the palace, from now on I will have to sleep in the king’s quarters.” She replied.

“Why?” Cassian asked.

“His Majesty has said that I must give him an heir.”

“Apparently, I will have to leave this house I call home for some time.” She replied.

“Does my brother want a child with you?” He questioned.

“I am his Majesty’s wife, even if it doesn’t seem like it, my duty is to give birth to his Majesty’s child, and although he doesn’t like it, he is aware that it is also his duty.” She replied.

“Did my brother do something to you?”

“Hmm…”

“What I mean is, did he try to attack you like he did in the temple?” Cassian asked.

“No, he didn’t.” Was her reply.

“My brother is not a bad man.”

“That day he was upset, don’t hate him.” He pleaded.

“I understand his Majesty’s reaction, he must have thought that my father had deceived him by sending an impostor, but that’s not true.” She said.

Abril showed a sad expression on her face, Cassian handed her a basket and said to her.

“I brought you this.”

Abril opened the basket. Inside were several delicious-looking desserts, even though she had just eaten, it immediately awakened her appetite.

“Thank you very much.” She said to him.

Abril entered the house and a few minutes later came out with a blanket and the little fox that she had as a pet in her arms.

“Today is a beautiful day.”

“Let’s have picnic.” She said.

Abril put the little fox on the ground and carried everything else in her arms. Cassian followed her to the shade of a big tree, she spread the blanket on the ground and then sat down.

“Come on, sit down.” She said.

Cassian hesitated for a moment since it would be difficult for him to stand up afterward, but the princess kept insisting until he agreed and sat down next to her. Abril took a cupcake out of the basket, gave one to Cassian and another one to her pet, then she took one for herself and when she tasted it she said.

“This is delicious.”

“Thank you for sharing something so delicious with me, you are very kind.”

“I don’t think I am kind.”
