Chapter 16 – The Real Heiress Reclaims Her Place (Elena & Sarach) Novel

“Sir.”

Elena’s voice rang out from not far away.

The teacher turned his head briefly to glance at her, then said, “Get in line.”

“Yes, sir.”

Elena returned to the group.

Henry gave her a pat on the shoulder. “What happened? Why so late?”

“I had to use the restroom.”

Across the field, Class One’s group began walking over as well.

Today’s test was held jointly for Class One and Class Six, and Zayden led his group as usual.

But Sarah was nowhere to be seen.

“Where’s Sarah?”

The teacher had already called her name, but she hadn’t responded.

No one in the class had any idea where she was.

It was a test day-how could she just skip it?

The teacher took a slow, deep breath. “If any of you think your family’s money gives you a free pass to skip exams, then don’t bother showing up for class at all.”

Sarah usually got a pass on running, but today was a physical test. And she hadn’t even bothered to come.

Without another word, he crossed a zero next to Sarah’s name.

Zayden looked like he was about to speak up for her.

But even he knew Sarah had been too slack during PE. The words never left his mouth.

“Sir, my sister isn’t someone who shirks responsibility. Let me go find her,” Elena offered, stepping forward.

Zayden was caught off guard.

After what Sarah had pulled today, Elena was still standing up for her?

“No need. If she doesn’t take the test seriously, no one else is going to take it for her.”

The PE teacher couldn’t stand students who acted fragile and dismissed physical education just because their grades were good. Did they really think good grades alone were enough to graduate?

Fail the physical exam, and you’re not graduating either.

Seeing the teacher’s firm attitude, Elena didn’t say another word.

Nearby, Nolan glanced at her from the corner of his eye.

Lying again.

“Elena, Pamela, Irene, Scarlett-step out.”

Today’s test was an 800-meter run and sit-ups.

Since Elena was the only girl in Class Six, she’d been grouped with Class One’s girls.

Pamela and Irene were still bitter about what had happened earlier.

Now that they were paired with Elena, they exchanged a look-clearly planning to make trouble for her during the race.

“On your marks! Go!”

With the teacher’s shout, all four girls started running in separate lanes.

“Go, Elena! You’ve got this!” Henry cheered loudly from the sidelines, completely ignoring the looks he got from others.

Especially Zayden.

Zayden’s eyes flicked to Henry, his brow furrowing.

It had only been a day, and Elena was already this close with someone from Class Six?

Elena was fast by nature. She started steady but quickly closed the distance with Pamela and Irene.

As soon as they saw her catching up, Pamela and Irene began drifting into her lane.

From the opposite side of the field, it wasn’t easy for others to see exactly what was happening.

“Elena! Go to hell!”

Both girls reached their legs out at the same time, trying to trip her.

Nolan saw it.

He stood up abruptly, causing Henry to look over. “Nolan? What is it?”

“Ahhh!”

Two girls screamed from the opposite track.

The teacher blew his whistle and ran over.

Elena stopped in her lane, looking down at the two girls who had fallen.

“What happened?”

The teacher rushed over to find both Pamela and Irene with scraped knees.

“Sir! Elena tripped us!” Pamela and Irene immediately accused her.

The teacher turned to Elena.

Elena looked genuinely innocent. “Sir, I was running just fine. They suddenly swerved into my lane. I didn’t mean for anything to happen…”

“Sir, I saw it with my own eyes! Those two stepped into Elena’s lane first. Who was trying to trip who isn’t so clear,” Henry said sharply, standing beside Elena and glaring at the girls on the ground.

Pamela and Irene turned pale under his gaze.

Who would’ve thought that after just one day in Class Six, Elena already had someone backing her?

“You’ll both retake the test. If it happens again-zero, no exceptions.”

The teacher stood up straight.

Normally he wouldn’t get involved in petty girl drama, but anything that interfered with an exam was serious business.

Seeing the teacher’s anger, Pamela and Irene had no choice but to get up and glare viciously at Elena.

Elena couldn’t be bothered with Pamela and Irene.

Just because she hadn’t lashed out before, they really thought she was easy to push around?

This time, with the PE teacher right there, neither Pamela nor Irene dared try anything again.

Elena hadn’t even finished her first lap when she was already pulling far ahead.

In the end, she completed the full 800 meters in 2 minutes and 28 seconds.

“Elena, come here.”

Zayden had already finished his test earlier.

He had used the teacher’s distraction to go back into the school building in search of Sarah-but she was nowhere to be found.

“I’ve got sit-ups next. I don’t have time to chat. Move.”

Elena brushed past him without pause.

But Zayden grabbed her arm and frowned. “Elena, Sarah’s missing.”

“And?”

Elena raised an eyebrow. “You’re not seriously asking me where she is, are you?”

Zayden fell silent.

That was exactly what he’d meant to ask.

“First of all, I’m not even in Class One anymore. And even if I were, Sarah never reported her whereabouts to me. If you’re worried, go find her yourself. Don’t waste my time-I’ve got a test to finish.”

With that, she shook off his hand and walked away.

Zayden looked down at the hand she’d pulled from his grip.

For the first time, it felt like something was missing.

Elena… had shaken him off?

Back at the Class Six testing area, Henry had already set up the mat for sit-ups.

As Elena walked over, she saw Nolan approaching.

He tossed his jacket into Henry’s arms. “I’ll do it.”

Henry blinked.
