Sloane stood tall, her chest puffed out with a confident smirk, certain they were there to greet her.
To her surprise, the director brushed past her and offered a polite handshake to Khloe. “Good to see you, Miss Evans.”
Khloe met the young female director’s gaze and responded with grace. “Hello, Miss Foster.”
Sloane’s eyes widened in disbelief as she confronted them. “Alissa, what’s going on? My assistant already told you-Khloe should be moved to another crew! Didn’t you hear me?”
She expected the director to apologize and backtrack immediately. But Alissa Foster, the director, faced Sloane, her expression cold as she began to explain. “Sloane, after careful consideration and unanimous decision by our team, we’ve agreed that Khloe is a better fit for the lead role.”
As soon as the director declared Khloe as the new female lead, the set was thrown into turmoil.
Sloane’s smug expression vanished in an instant, her face contorting with shock and rage beneath her perfectly applied makeup.
“No way! Khloe, how dare you take my role?”
Sloane’s polished celebrity persona shattered in an instant. She let out a hysterical scream, her eyes wild and unblinking, fixed on Khloe with a glare so fierce it seemed she could consume Khloe entirely.
Meanwhile, Khloe stayed serene, her composure unshaken. Her eyes, beautiful but cold, met Sloane’s frantic gaze as she replied calmly, “Because, quite simply, I’m the better fit.”
“Better? That’s absurd! You’re just a nobody! I have eighty million followers!” Sloane snapped back.
“So what? You’re a terrible actress; you disrespect the crew; you’re constantly late; and you behave like a diva. Why would anyone want an actress like you?” Tess shot back without hesitation. “Khloe’s not only prettier, but she’s also a better actress. Your followers can’t help you bring a character to life. Replacing you is the crew’s way of cutting their losses.”
Her words landed like a sharp slap across Sloane’s face. The real blow was that both the director and the producer appeared to share this opinion.
Sloane had no one to blame but herself; she enjoyed putting on the facade of a refined heiress for her adoring fans.
Behind the scenes, however, her reputation was infamous. She consistently arrived late, leaving the entire crew waiting without so much as an apology.
Her acting was abysmal-she constantly forgot her lines, her expressions were wooden, and her movements were over-the-top, utterly missing the mark in bringing her character to life.
On top of that, she would throw fits and boss the crew around whenever things didn’t go as planned, making the set a miserable place to work.
Alissa had been fed up with her for some time, and with Khloe’s arrival, she was more than ready to make the change.
She cleared her throat before suggesting, “I understand that switching roles this late is unfortunate. After careful discussion, we’re offering you the second female lead role as compensation. What do you think, Sloane?”
“Second lead? Over my dead body!” Sloane’s fists balled up, her whole body shaking with fury. “I’ve got Snowpear’s backing. Without me as the lead, this production is going nowhere!”
Her voice cut through the air, shrill and grating, like the screech of nails on a chalkboard.
“Sloane, did it slip your mind? Snowpear is a close friend of mine, and I was the one who secured the rights for you back then,” Khloe said calmly, facing Sloane’s seething anger. A smirk curled on her lips. “You’ve had the rights for so long, you’ve convinced yourself they’re yours. But as of now, they’re mine.”
Though her tone was casual, her words struck like daggers, cutting straight into Sloane’s pride.
The staff also started exchanging hushed whispers.
“Khloe’s incredible. She managed to get the rights from Snowpear.”
“Sloane’s really taken a hit this time. She got way too cocky.”
The murmurs rippling through the crowd drained the color from Sloane’s face, leaving her ghostly pale.
Not again!
That same crushing feeling!
How could Khloe so easily get everything handed to her, while she was left humiliated after all her plotting?
Why was it always this way?
“No. This can’t be happening.” Sloane’s body shook, her voice quivering with a mix of denial and hopelessness.
Eric stepped in to support her, his frown deepening as he confronted Khloe angrily. “Khloe, don’t push it! Why are you treating Sloane like this? She’s your sister!”
“Oh, when Sloane was trying to get rid of Khloe, she didn’t care about family!” Tess snapped back. “Eric, have some decency. Trying to use family ties to manipulate Khloe is absurd.”
Eric’s expression hardened, his eyes narrowing with cold fury. “As an investor, I have every right to speak. If Khloe takes the lead, I’m pulling my fifty million investment!”
The statement caused immediate tension to spread through the crowd.
A withdrawal of investment could ruin the entire production.
Sloane had been so arrogant not just because of the rights she held, but because of Eric’s fifty million investment.
Khloe chuckled lightly. “Investment? I’ve already put a hundred million into this production.”
Her revelation hit like a bombshell, and the room went silent as everyone processed her words.
The crowd’s reactions were diverse, but shock was a common thread, with wide eyes all around.
The staff leaned in close to one another, their voices low as they exchanged quiet remarks.
“No way, a hundred million? Who is Khloe, really?”
