Chapter 28 – Ditched the Cheater. Pregnant by Mr. Right.

“You two again? Are you kidding me? Haven’t you caused enough trouble already?”

Neither of the men paid him any attention.

One of them looked directly at Quinn. “You want us to call the police, correct?”

“Yes,” Quinn said, her voice still trembling but her answer firm.

“Don’t call the police!” Chase snapped anxiously. “We’re married! This is a private matter between husband and wife. Why are you interfering? The police won’t get involved in something like this anyway!”

The two men ignored him completely. One of them pulled out his phone and dialed.

Chase lunged forward, trying to snatch the phone away, but the other man effortlessly restrained him.

Realizing he was no match for the man’s strength, Chase immediately turned to Quinn.

“Have you lost your mind?” he shouted. “Why would you call the police? Stop him right now!”

Quinn quietly stepped behind the man in the black suit, using him as a shield.

The call had already connected. The man reported the address and hung up shortly afterward.

Chase could not believe what was happening. All he had done was follow Rosalie’s advice and try to have sex with Quinn.

And somehow it had escalated to the point of police involvement.

Rosalie had said Quinn loved him. Once he slept with her, she would become completely devoted to him.

But instead, Quinn had fought like someone out of control and even called the police.

The officers arrived quickly and took both of them into custody.

Inside the patrol car, Chase kept explaining himself, “We’re married, really. We’re husband and wife. Nothing serious happened. You don’t need to take this so seriously.”

One of the officers glanced at him and said, “So you were just playing around? Because this kind of situation wastes public resources.”

Quinn finally spoke.

“No. I’m the one who reported him. I’m accusing him of marital rape and domestic violence.”

The officer looked at Quinn briefly before responding, “You can explain everything in detail when we take your statement.”

Chase leaned closer and lowered his voice.

“Are you crazy? I’m your husband. You’re actually accusing me?” he hissed. “Have you thought about the consequences?”

Quinn did not respond. She did not want to say a single word to him.

Before getting into the police car, she had already thrown up once. At the station, they were separated to give their statements.

Quinn recounted everything that had happened from beginning to end.

Chase refused to admit he had forced her, insisting that it had simply been a form of playful intimacy between spouses.

One of the officers taking Quinn’s statement was a female officer. She spoke gently, explaining the legal process to her.

If Quinn insisted on pressing charges, she would need to undergo a medical examination to document her injuries.

The officer then led Quinn toward the hallway outside. Just then, a burst of loud voices came from ahead.

Quinn looked up. She saw Victor and Elaine standing there.

“Dad? Mom? Why are you here?”

Quinn’s face was pale, her lips drained of color. Her entire appearance was disheveled and helpless.

But the couple acted as though they did not notice any of it.

Elaine immediately asked, “What is going on here? This is a matter between husband and wife. How did it end up at a police station?”

Victor frowned. “This is ridiculous. Come home right now.”

Before Quinn could respond, the female officer beside her spoke up.

“You must be the parents, right? Good. Maybe you should have a serious talk with your son. Look at the condition he left this young woman in.”

“Officer, married couples argue all the time,” Elaine said casually. “Sometimes things just get a little out of hand.”

The female officer looked like she was about to respond again.

Quinn gently pulled on her sleeve.

“They’re my parents,” Quinn said quietly. “Not my in-laws.”

The female officer looked startled. “Don’t either of you care about your daughter?”

Elaine answered without hesitation, “Of course we care about her. But this is a family matter. If her husband did something wrong, she should come to us. Why does she have to make a scene at the police station?”

Just then, Chase walked out of the interrogation room.

He looked aggrieved as he spoke. “Mom, Dad, you’re here. Good, you can help me clear this up. She’s accusing me of domestic violence. Do I look like the kind of guy who would do something like that?”

Elaine said, “Don’t worry, we’ll talk some sense into her. Chase, you’ve really been put through the wringer.”

Watching the scene unfold, the female officer frowned. “What is going on with your family? Your daughter is the one filing the complaint, yet you’re acting like none of this concerns her?”

Quinn said to her quietly, “Thank you, officer. You don’t need to worry about them. I’ve already made my decision, and I’m not changing it.”

“That’s ridiculous!” Victor snapped angrily. “Haven’t you embarrassed us enough already?”

Quinn looked straight at him. “How exactly have I embarrassed you? Chase was the one who forced himself on me. He was the one who laid hands on me. He almost strangled me to death. Did either of you even ask if I was okay?”

Standing nearby, Chase hurried to defend himself. “That only happened because you fought back. You’re my wife. If I want to sleep with my own wife, is that suddenly illegal?”

Quinn’s voice turned cold. “You need to get something straight. I’m asking for a divorce. Even if I weren’t, if I say no and you force me anyway, that’s rape.”

Chase grew anxious. “If you keep slandering me like this, I’ll tell everyone about you and Maddox.”

Quinn found that laughable. “What, are you planning to tell everyone the disgusting thing you did?”

Chase said, “Forget what I did. Are you really going to stand there and say you’re not still in contact with Maddox? That’s cheating.”

“Cheating?” Quinn stared at him in disbelief.

She truly had not imagined someone could be this shameless.

Chase continued, convinced he had caught her red-handed. “What, you’re not going to admit it? Those two bodyguards earlier, weren’t they assigned to you by Maddox?”

Quinn frowned in confusion. “What bodyguards?”

Weren’t those two men just strangers who happened to step in and help?

“Stop pretending,” Chase said smugly, convinced he had finally found leverage against her. “The last time outside Lucy’s place, those same two guys kicked me out. And today it was them again. Are you seriously going to say Maddox didn’t send them?”

No. That can’t be right. I’ve never had anything to do with Maddox, so why would he assign bodyguards to me?Julian… Was it Julian? He definitely had the power to make something like that happen. But why? Why would he go out of his way to do something like that for me?

When Quinn remained silent, Chase assumed he had hit the mark.

He immediately turned to Victor. “See, Dad? I was right. I didn’t even make a fuss about her cheating, yet she still wants to report me to the police.”

Several people nearby had begun watching.

Victor had spent his entire life caring about reputation, and he could not stand the feeling of being judged by strangers.

He waved his hand sharply. “All of you, go home. Right now.”

Quinn did not move. “I told you already. I’m pressing charges.”

Smack.

A sharp sound rang out.

A heavy slap landed across Quinn’s face.

“You ungrateful disgrace!” Elaine snapped, pulling her hand back. “Have you forgotten everything your father and I taught you? After everything we’ve done for you, this is how you repay us?”

Quinn covered her cheek. Her eyes were red, but the determination in her gaze only grew stronger.

The female officer quickly stepped forward and pulled Quinn behind her. “You’re seriously hitting someone inside a police station?”

“I’m disciplining my own daughter,” Elaine said coldly. “What, officer, are you going to arrest me for that too?”

Victor barked angrily, “Get home. Now.”

“The matter isn’t settled yet. She’s not going anywhere.” A clear, confident voice cut through the tension.

Everyone turned to look.

Quinn looked surprised. “Veronica?”

Veronica stood there in a sharp business suit, poised and composed.

She strode quickly to Quinn’s side and addressed the female officer. “I’m Quinn’s attorney. From this point on, I will be handling all matters on her behalf.”

She gave Quinn a reassuring look before turning to Elaine and Victor.

“If either of you uses violence against my client again, even if you’re her parents, you will face legal consequences.”

“I’m her mother!” Elaine said through clenched teeth, struggling to maintain a shred of dignity. “I’m disciplining my own child, and you’re lecturing me about the law?”

The female officer spoke up. “This is a workplace. Please keep your voices down. Make some room and don’t interfere with our work.”
