Chapter 29 – A Ring Without Love

The pickup guy took one look at the man’s expensive clothes and strong presence and instantly realized this was someone he should never mess with.

His throat bobbed. He let go of Amelia right away and quickly disappeared around the corner of the hallway.

Amelia leaned against the cold wall, finally finding something to hold onto.

She felt like the whole world was spinning,

No Sex for Six Years Because of Her? I’m Done!and her head was just a foggy mess.

She blinked hard, trying to see the man who’d saved her.

The hallway was too dark. His face was just a blurry shadow, like an abstract painting she couldn’t quite make out.

All she could see was a calm silhouette. And for the first time in a long while, she felt safe.

It was a strange feeling.

The scent was unfamiliar, but her body instinctively let its guard down, without any resistance.

Maybe the alcohol gave her courage.

Amelia suddenly laughed.

She grabbed the wall and stumbled toward him. Her small, flushed face tilted up as she spoke in a soft voice, “You… Not bad. My type.”

Right as she was about to fall over, a strong arm caught her and held her steady.

Mason looked down at the woman passed out in his arms, his brows furrowed tightly. His deep voice sounded clearly annoyed. “How much did you drink?”

“Mmm… A lot…” Amelia mumbled. She squirmed in his arms, then held up all five fingers in front of him. Her words slurred. “Hey, I’m drunk. You look like you’ve got great muscles… Can I touch them?”

Before she even finished speaking, her hand boldly and shakily reached toward his stomach.

She could feel the heat and strength right through the thin fabric of his shirt.

Mason’s eyes darkened. He grabbed her wandering wrist without hesitation.

Right after that, he lifted her chin. His voice sounded even colder. “Amelia, take a good look.

“Who is standing in front of you?”

Amelia…

Someone was calling her name. Her foggy brain slowly tried to figure it out.

She tried hard to widen her eyes, wanting to see this blurry face clearly, but her vision was hazy – she couldn’t focus at all.

Her body reacted before her mind did.

She went limp and fell straight into Mason’s arms, like a cat with no bones.

She buried her face against him, nuzzled in, and giggled.

“I know!

“You’re…

“A handsome stranger named Hookup.”

Meanwhile, Lily waited and waited at the table, but Amelia never came back from the restroom.

She felt more and more uneasy. Amelia had been drinking so fast earlier. What if she passed out in there?

Worried, she grabbed her bag and hurried toward the restroom.

But she didn’t even reach the door before she froze in shock.

Under the dim hallway lights, a tall, very handsome man was leaning against the wall.

And her best friend, Amelia, was clinging to the man’s wide chest like a drunk koala. Her hands kept wandering all over him while she mumbled.

The man kept an expressionless face the whole time. It was hard to tell if he was annoyed or not. But the big hand supporting Amelia’s arms never pushed her away.

It didn’t look like tolerance, it looked more like a kind of possessive claim.

Lily was so shocked that her brain lagged for a few seconds. Then she snapped out of it and rushed over.

“Amelia!” She tried to pull Amelia off the man while giving the ridiculously handsome stranger an apologetic look. “I’m so sorry, sir! My friend had a rough night and drank too much. I’ll take her away right now!”

But Amelia seemed determined to rebel that night.

She refused to go with Lily. Instead, she clung even tighter to the man’s arm. Her watery eyes gazed up at him pleadingly, and she dropped a bombshell, “Take me with you tonight… Okay?”

Lily was completely stunned.

Amelia had always lived by the rules. Her life was even plainer than a glass of water. Lily had never seen her act this bold or outrageous.

Sure, Lily had always joked that Amelia should find some guy to help her get over Ethan, who broke her heart. But now that Amelia was actually doing it, Lily felt super nervous. She was scared Amelia would wake up tomorrow and regret everything.

“Be good, Amelia, come with me. He’s a bad guy.” Lily could only try to coax and trick her into her arms.

Amelia wouldn’t let go and frowned as she argued back, “He’s not a bad guy.”

The man who’d been silent this whole time finally moved.

He looked down at the woman clinging to him, then suddenly bent over, grabbed her, and lifted her right onto his shoulder.

Amelia ended up hanging upside down.

The man carried her and took long strides. As he walked past the stunned Lily, he paused briefly. His deep eyes glanced calmly at Lily. “Don’t worry, I won’t hurt her.”

Then, right there in front of everyone, he walked off with Amelia.

Lily’s eyes went wide as she stood there frozen, watching them disappear at the end of the hallway.

Even though she liked to think she’d seen it all, she still couldn’t help screaming internally, Damn, that’s actually kind of romantic!

No Sex for Six Years Because of Her? I’m Done!

Mason carried Amelia to the underground parking garage. He opened the passenger door and carefully set her inside.

The moment she wasn’t in his arms, Amelia looked uneasy. She curled up into a small ball on the seat, her long hair messy around her face, like a poor thing abandoned by the world.

He closed the door, got into the driver’s seat, and asked, “Where do you want to go?”

Amelia’s eyes were closed. Her long eyelashes were damp. She seemed asleep, though a tiny bit of consciousness might have remained.

She let out a few soft, kitten-like whimpers. “Wanna go home…”

Mason’s eyes darkened. “Which home?”

“Home…” Amelia repeated, her voice thick with a nasal sound. “I think… I don’t have a home anymore. They all left me.”

“Who’s ‘they’?” Mason asked. His voice softened without him realizing.

But this time, Amelia didn’t answer. Her breathing slowly became even and long; she had fallen asleep.

Mason sighed helplessly and brushed the stray hair from her cheek. His fingers brushed her warm cheek.

He looked at her sleeping face, his expression complicated, and finally whispered, “Your tolerance for alcohol is still awful.”

He started the car and smoothly drove out of the garage, heading to Amelia’s own studio, not for the Rowe Estate.

When they reached the standalone villa where her studio was located, Mason opened the passenger door and gently tapped her cheek. “Amelia, you’re home.”
