As I lay in the back determined to fight when he opens the door, I suddenly feel the vehicle slow down and stop. “We’re home honey!” He sounds so cheerful, it makes me nauseous just the sound of his voice. I hear him get out of the vehicle and then suddenly lots of muffled voices. I want so badly to see what is going on, but I try to make any noise I can so someone hears me. I start kicking any part of the vehicle I can reach with my feet and start making as much muffled noise as I can. Next thing I know I hear the back hatch open up and I look to see a police officer standing there. I feel so much relief at this moment, I start crying I am so happy that they are here to stop Mark. He reaches down an carefully helps me to sit up and then cuts away the binding on my arms behind my back and my legs. “I know some people that will be relieved that you are ok.” I looked up at the officer and he pulls of the tape and I pull the cloth out of my mouth. I reaches for the water and I drink down the whole thing. “Thank you so much for being here. I was so afraid of what he was going to do when we got here.” He smiles at me, ” Let’s get you looked at first with the EMT’s and then I will lend you my phone to let your friends know your okay back home.” He walks with me over to the ambulance to get looked over, I had to move slowly because I was stuck in the back tied up so I am sore.
Once the EMT clears me, the officers take me back to the station as I call Amy hoping they were all together. She was just the easiest to call since I had her number memorized. “Hello” I hear on the other end. “Amy, it’s Jessie,” I say my voice cracking as I am ready to cry again. “Jessie! Oh my God! Are you okay? We are all frantic here. Your land lord caught on video Mark taking you so we have been waiting for an update. Morgan was threatening to start driving towards Tennessee if we didn’t hear something soon.” I started laughing at that, “Well, I am okay, I am just going to need to get home. Do you think you could book me a flight tonight, just get my card out of my purse. I don’t want to be here any longer than I have to be after they finish with me at the station.”
Amy agreed to take care of everything and the officer relayed information to send her flight information to once it was all completed. I asked the officer if it would be possible to get something to change into at the station since i was still in my pajamas and he told me I would be taken care of once we get there.
At the station I was give clothes to change into, and some food since I was starving. As I was eating the officer took my statement and then brought me the information for my flight back to Georgia. I couldn’t wait to get back home, this town just held too many bad memories for me and I wanted to get away. I gave them everything I could think of, but there were a lot of blanks since I was asleep most of the time. “He was giving you Ketamine to knock you out for most of the trip. We found the needles when we searched the vehicle, we will be looking for who supplied him with it.” I nodded and then said, you may want to check with his female friends, he probably has a lot and I am sure he has their contact information in his phone. They are the reason I am no longer with him.” The officer said they would be checking that out and thanked me for the tip. Once they were done with me one of the officers gave me a ride to the airport to wait for my flight. I thanked them for all their help and told them they could contact me for any further questions once I am back home. I walked into the airport anxious to get back home to my friends.
I stepped out of the terminal thankful my flight was over and I am home. I had walked forward looking through the crowd of people looking a familiar face. As I walk through the people I suddenly saw them, Amy, Dean, and Morgan all waiting for me. Morgan lit up when he saw me, he ran forward and lifted me up and kissing me. I felt at home in his arms, never wanting him to let me go. I hear a throat clear, and I backed away going to give Dean and Morgan quick hugs and thanking them for all their help. “I am so glad you all acted so quickly, I don’t know where I would be right now if you hadn’t. I feared what he was capable of doing if he got me into his place.” I still shudder to think what he might have been capable of, but I was bound and determined to fight him every step of the way. It was concerning to me that he did not seem mentally stable the whole time he had me, but if I thought about it there were indicators that came up when I told him I wanted the divorce. It was like he snapped and he was not able to or willing to accept it.
“Let’s go home, I just want to take a hot shower put on my clothes and sleep in my bed tonight, after we get some good food of course. I am starving and I could use some good greasy comfort food.” Morgan chucked at my comment, “Your wish is my command, lets get you fed and back home.” We walked out of the airport and to Dean’s truck, I hopped in the back with Morgan, he immediately pulled me over to him wrapping me in the comfort of his arms. I rested my head on his shoulder and just relaxed and Dean guided his truck out of the airport parking lot and back out onto the road. I must have fallen asleep because next thing I know Morgan is gently waking me up to eat. I looked out the window seeing we were at the diner, my stomach grumpled thinking about a greasy cheeseburger and some fries. Laughing Morgan pulled me out of the truck and we walked in with Amy and Dean to eat.
Once we are done eating and we are back at my place I walked up to my door with everyone and I see James walking up as I go to close the door. “I am so glad you are ok Jessie, we were all worried about you. I was just thankful we had the cameras installed so quickly what happened to you the last time with your ex. I know he didn’t have a key but I am going to change the locks out for you today.” I love this guy, he has been a wonderful landlord that genuinely cares about his tenants safety. “Thank you for doing this, it will help me feel a bit safer knowing that those are changed as well. Mark has been arrested but I won’t feel completely safe until he is in prison.”
While my landlord changed out the locks, Morgan, Amy and Dean stuck around while I went upstairs to clean up and put on my clothes. It felt great to take a hot shower and wash off everything that happened to me. The only thing left to remind me were the memories and the bruises on my wrists and ankles. Those will go away but I will have to deal with the memories which I know will take time. I walk back into my bedroom and see a brand new bed set on my bed and on the corner of my bed is a box. I walked over and see it’s an indoor camera set with a note on top.
