“Let’s just not make a big deal about it right now..I’m sure it was an accident. We don’t want to miss our appointment..” She whispered, embarrassment clearly filling her face as she looked around awkwardly, seeing that people were now staring.
“Let’s get you cleaned up inside.” My mom rushed out before dragging me to the door..and right at that moment, I knew..she didn’t care about me.
She cared about what these people thought..these people who she too would soon mingle with considering she was marrying the famous Dave King.
I had become nothing but an embarrassment to her. Well, I hope it’s worth it..because after this, she is going to lose the only family she has..and maybe that won’t even bother her..maybe that will make her even happier.
(Johnnie)
I stood in the dressing room, warm tears sliding down my cheeks as I tried so hard to keep it all together. I glanced down, seeing my now bandaged up knees as I let out a shuddering sigh.
I didn’t want to be here anymore..my mom took me into the store after I fell and luckily the store clerk had a first aid kit. I was embarrassed though, seeing the way Heaven and her mom whispered about me..and to top it off, my mom ordered the wrong size dresses for me.
They were way too tight..she had smalls pulled for me when I was definitely a medium if not a large depending on the bust size.
So that wasn’t helping my confidence as I shimmied into a lavender-colored dress. It had a low-cut v-neckline and went to my mid thighs..I looked like I was going to a club or something.
Yeah, it was sexy, but no way was it appropriate for a wedding.
“Come on Jojo, let us see it.” My mom slurred..oh..did I forget to mention she has had like four glasses of champagne? She and Patricia were both tipsy..if not wasted at this point.
I wiped my cheeks, trying to hide the fact that I was crying as I opened the door and stepped out with my arms crossed in front of my body. This was the sixth dress I tried on, and I was done.
“Wow, you look sexy! Doesn’t she look sexy Heather.” Patricia stated with a squeal before standing up and stepping towards me.
I saw Heaven scowling out of the corner of my eye when she stepped up too.
“Yeah, who would’ve thought our little Jo had a figure under all of those baggy clothes.” She added, her eyes traveling up and down my body.
“Oh god..those hoodies..I swear I was this close to burning them all out back.” My mom groaned as she lifted her glass and took another sip of champagne.
“I think Jo is beautiful no matter what she wears.” Robin suddenly chimed in, making me glance towards her as she was typing something into her phone.
“Oh, of course..she knows that..it’s just embarrassing going to a four-star restaurant with a ten-year-old sweatshirt on her back.” My mom snorted, causing me to shoot her a glare.
“Can I change back into my clothes now?” I snapped, so done with this shopping trip.
“Actually, is it possible if I try that one on? I just really love the style.” Heaven suddenly chimed in, making Robin roll her eyes before putting her phone away.
“Didn’t you try enough things on? I thought we were here to pick Johnnie’s dress..not see your desperate need for attention.” Robin grumbled, making Heaven look towards her with anger.
My mom and Patricia burst into laughter, not even paying attention to what was going on as I turned and walked back towards the dressing room.
“Yeah, you can have the dress, I don’t like it.” I stated flatly before closing the door and peeling it off of me.
I slipped on my shorts and shirt before walking back out and handing Heaven the dress.
“Here.” I stared coldly and went to sit by Robin.
“Why is Heaven such a bitch to you and what’s going on with your mom?” She asked quietly, making me just shrug as I had no clue what type of twilight zone we had walked into.
Mom was acting so weird..it was almost like she was a completely different person now.
“I wish I knew..” I grumbled as Robin’s phone went off, making her glance down at it before her eyes widened.
“Seriously?! Oh my god..” She muttered under her breath before glancing up at me.
“What? What’s wrong?” I asked worriedly, thinking something bad might’ve happened to Ben.
“Just..don’t freak out..” She said sheepishly and before I could even question her further, I heard a deep voice rumbling from outside of the room.
“Sir, you can’t go in there!” The woman from earlier could be heard saying as the door was swiftly yanked open, revealing a very angry looking Caspian.
“C..Caspian..what are you doing here?!” I asked, feeling my mouth fall open as he didn’t even say a word, he just walked over towards me, gripped my hand, and began pulling me out of the chair.
“What are you doing?” I rushed out again, waiting for some type of explanation as Heaven suddenly walked out of the dressing room, wearing the dress I just had on.
Of course it fit her perfectly.
“Cas!” She lit up, making my stomach twist as annoyance now filled me.
“Caspian, what are you doing here? Is everything okay with your father?” My mom slurred before standing and looking worried.
“Make sure her mom gets home safe. Come on Johnnie, let’s go.” He said, not even sparing Heaven or my mom a look as he gripped my hand tighter.
“But..” I began, surprised he was doing this in front of so many people.
Caspian raised an eyebrow, his handsome face turning serious as his blue eyes burned into me.
“Johnnie.” He warned, making me swallow hard before I took a tentative step forward, prompting Caspian to pull me out of the store, leaving everyone looking at us in shock..well everyone except for Robin..she had a smirk on her face.
I glanced up, seeing Caspian’s angry face as my brow furrowed..why was he so mad?
He continued to pull me along, making me almost stumble as we exited the store and turned the corner.
“Cas..wait.. you’re going too fast..” I rushed out, tripping again as I stared up at his broad back.
He didn’t listen, instead, he gripped my hand even tighter before turning another corner and that’s when he abruptly stopped before pushing me up against the wall, making me gasp.
“Why the fuck did you let them treat you like that?” He snapped, making me blink rapidly as I felt freaking bewildered by what he was saying.
“For fucks sake Johnnie..you used to be braver than that..” He breathed, making me bite my lip before looking down.
