Kendrick listened on as if nothing was happening, but each of his slender fingers was clenched tightly.
He heard Niamh’s footsteps as she left and held in his sobs until he confirmed that Niamh had gone far away. Then, he hurriedly got up, fumbling as he walked to the gates. He was staring in the direction that she had left in.
After a long time, tears appeared in his eyes.
