Chapter 36 – Framed by Family. Saved by Mafia

“Didn’t Eric used to be engaged to Khloe? Honestly, I thought Khloe couldn’t hold a candle to Sloane. But now? Standing side by side, Khloe makes Sloane look so average. Why did Eric settle for Sloane?”

Meanwhile, viewers on the live stream were merciless.

“There’s no comparison-Khloe outshines Sloane completely. It’s like night and day!”

“Khloe’s beauty is unreal. No wonder they recast the lead. Roselyn was described as a breathtaking beauty in the novel, and Khloe fits that perfectly.”

“Khloe’s stunning. Honestly, Sloane should just bow out gracefully.”

Sloane’s fans didn’t take this lying down.

“Are you kidding? Since when does having a pretty face make you a great actress? Sloane’s talent is miles ahead of this so-called beauty!”

“This is ridiculous. Acting takes skill, not just a pretty face. And people who rely on their looks to get cozy with wealthy backers? They won’t last. This show’s doomed.”

Despite their harsh words, even Sloane’s supporters couldn’t entirely dismiss Khloe’s striking appearance.

Eric’s usually detached demeanor softened instantly when he spotted Khloe, his eyes lighting up with admiration.

He found himself unable to look away, his pupils widening as his heartbeat quickened unexpectedly.

Several of the male guests were equally mesmerized, their gazes fixed on Khloe. A few even drifted closer without realizing it, drawn in by her allure.

Sloane’s stomach twisted as she caught Eric’s reaction. The same guests who had been singing her praises moments ago were now entirely focused on Khloe, their attention fixed on her as if she didn’t even exist.

She felt lightheaded, overwhelmed by a surge of envy. Did Khloe really believe that her stunning looks could mask the disgraceful history she carried?

Sloane longed to throw Khloe out on the spot, but the presence of the live stream camera made her hold back. She forced a friendly smile, masking her fury as she approached Khloe with slow, measured steps.

As she got closer, her eyes locked onto the diamond necklace adorning Khloe’s neck.

The necklace’s breathtaking sparkle reminded Sloane of the extravagant auction where it had been bought for a jaw-dropping $1 billion by an anonymous tycoon.

Why was Khloe wearing it? Had she somehow caught the attention of another rich patron? One who was willing to lavish so much money on her? Sloane’s eyes betrayed a mix of shock, bitterness, and utter disbelief.

In an instant, all those emotions morphed into a burning, deep-seated hatred.

She quickly masked her malice with a forced smile and spoke sweetly. “Khloe, you look absolutely beautiful today.”

Khloe’s lips curled into a radiant, almost irresistible smile. “Sloane, do you like my necklace? You’ve been staring at it so intently. It must have caught your eye. Too bad it costs a billion-something I doubt Eric would ever buy for you.”

At Khloe’s smug words and seeing her proud posture, Sloane’s fist clenched so tightly at her side that her nails nearly pierced her skin, the veins on the back of her hand bulging with tension.

“Khloe, don’t push it!” she spat out, her teeth clenched.

“Push it?” Khloe raised an eyebrow, pretending to be shocked. “Sloane, I’m just showing you a necklace. Is that really too much? It seems like things aren’t going well between you and Eric. You’ve been sucking up to him for three years, but he hasn’t even bought you a necklace. It’s clear his heart isn’t in it. After all, a man’s wallet always speaks louder than his words.”

Khloe’s words hit their mark, and Sloane, unable to control herself, shouted out in a fit of rage.

“Khloe, enough! Do you really think you’re still the legitimate daughter of the Evans family? You’ve been cut off! When it comes to status, I’m far above you!”

As Sloane and Khloe faced off in a charged standoff, millions glued to the live stream of the Watson family’s grand banquet held their breath. Shocked whispers rippled through the virtual crowd.

Did Sloane just reveal that Khloe was the legitimate daughter of the Evans family? How could that be? Wasn’t she just a newcomer?

The comments exploded with reactions from those who had dug into the family’s buried past.

“I think I remember hearing about Sloane’s sister-a genius, I think. Could this really be Khloe?”

“Yes, yes! And I even heard she might’ve snagged the Nobel Prize. A real academic prodigy!”

Sloane’s fans were having none of it.

“Khloe fans, could you try being a little realistic? A Nobel Prize, really? Do you even know what kind of award that is? Do you know how old most winners are? They’re practically icons in their seventies. There’s no way someone as young as Khloe would be on that list. If you’re going to brag, at least make it believable.”

“Exactly! I just looked it up-no mention of Khloe in the records. Have some decency; real academics don’t need impostors!”

“But what’s this about Sloane saying Khloe was disowned? Anyone know the scoop?”

“I heard some of it. Apparently, the Evans patriarch had a wife who was caught being unfaithful and was thrown out. If Khloe’s her daughter, she might’ve been cut off because of this.”

“Well, that explains it! Khloe’s probably another man’s daughter. Nothing good ever comes from that.”

“So Khloe took the lead role in Peaks of Eternity as some twisted payback against the Evans family? How vicious! Her mother had no decency, and now Sloane’s suffering for it!”

“Hey, watch what you’re saying. You don’t know the whole story, so stop dragging her mother’s name through the mud.”

The comments poured in, many laced with disdain for Khloe.

Yet, the mood at the banquet couldn’t have been more different. The guests, hailing from influential families, were well-versed in the secrets and intricacies of each other’s lives.

Three years ago, rumors had swirled that Khloe was behind Lorraine’s sudden fall from the stairs, causing a once-promising genius to vanish without a trace. Something about the situation never added up.

Claire Watson, Eric’s mother, watched Khloe with a keen eye, noticing how the young woman’s presence eclipsed not just Sloane, but the other young ladies in the room.
