After we finished dinner we went back to their place and ended up playing card, and visiting until I looked over at Amy and saw her eyes looking droopy and I could see her fighting to stay awake. “Amy, go to bed. I can see you are ready to pass out over there.” I chuckled as she stuck her tongue out at me, but didn’t argue as she stood up and gave me a hug and went to bed. “How has she been handling the pregnancy?” Dean looked at me, “She is doing pretty well, just adjusting to the changes in her appetite and being tired more often right now. The doctor said this is all normal, and I enjoy driving her nuts, keeping after her about taking it more easily.” He started laughing and we joined in. “So now that she is not here, tell me Jessie, has there been any update on the search for Mark? I didn’t want to ask while Amy was here to get her worked up, but I am finding it concerning that they have not found him yet.”
“No, there is no sign of him yet, I talked to the police department back in Tennessee. They haven’t found him or the woman that helped him get out, I am hoping that they find both of them soon. However, I have had this bad feeling that we will see at least Mark here before that happens.” Morgan grabbed my hand as I said this and gave it a squeeze as a show of support. “I hope I am wrong, but I have had this bad feeling about this since I called them.”
“Jessie we are all here for you, we will do everything we can to protect you from him. I still can’t believe this is the Mark that I called my best friend for all those years. He is nowhere near the man I thought he was when we were friends.” We called it a night, I gave Dean a hug and told him we would be in touch soon, and to go take care of his wife. Morgan and I made our way home for the night.
It has been a couple of days since our dinner, Morgan and I have been enjoying the progression of our relationship. I have not seen any sign of Karen yet, but I have a feeling that will not last. I am not sure if she wants Morgan back, but I trust him and I believed him the other night when he told me that would not happen. It was a gorgeous day today and we decided to go for a walk today after dinner since we have not gone in awhile. We finished putting our remaining food in containers, cleaned the dishes and table then locked up and started off. We wanted to walk to the lake again, because the walk is always quiet and relaxing.
As we made our way towards the park we talked about taking a trip during one of my school breaks to the beach. It sounded like it would be an amazing trip and I always loved just laying on the beach and soaking up the sun. I told him we should start looking at some spots so we can get something booked early, and have more options available to us. We continued to talk about our pending trip as we sat down on our usual bench. “Morgan, is that you?” We both turned around to see Karen standing a few feet away from us.
Morgan didn’t have any excitement on his face as he looked at her and he remained neutral as he responded to her. “Hi Karen, how have you been? I didn’t know you were back in town for a visit.” She looked at me in a condescending way, “Really? Your friend there didn’t tell you I stopped by earlier.” Morgan then stood, “First of all, she told me someone stopped at my old place, but they didn’t tell her who they were. Secondly, I don’t appreciate your tone and how you are referring to my girlfriend. If you don’t tell her who you are, how is she supposed to tell me it was you who stopped by. Do you need anything specific, because if not we are trying to enjoy our evening.” She just stood there shocked, “My parents didn’t tell me you had a girlfriend, and I am not in town for a visit because I decided to move back to Georgia. I wanted to reconnect with you. We were always so close, and there is so much we need to catch up on.”
Morgan sat back down next to me and pulled me into his side. “As you can see, that will not be happening, and your parents wouldn’t know about us because I don’t check in with them regarding my life like I would my parents. Now if you will excuse us, we would like to enjoy our evening together, I am sure you have places to be Karen. Take care.” Even though I could tell she was still behind us, I didn’t turn around, my heart was soaring as I laid my head on his shoulder. Could this man be any more amazing? Not only did he confirm by his actions that he was with me, he made sure to show her that her company was not wanted. He wanted me to know that there was no interest there at all for Karen even with their history. She did finally wonder off, and I just hope that she took this obvious hint to leave us alone.
As we were walking back home Morgan’s text alert went off, he pulled his phone out and opened it and I saw him roll his eyes. “What is it Morgan?” He handed me his phone and I read the text that had no name attached to it.
Karen just came home devastated after seeing you. I didn’t realize you were seeing someone. Is it serious??? Karen realized the mistake she made letting you go and really wanted to start again. You both were so sweet together and I think if you have her a chance to show you, I can’t see why you can’t pick up where you left off. Please think about it Morgan…. You both should get together and talk.
