Chapter 391 – Divorced! Now What to Do?

Brettley raised his eyebrows upon hearing this. Then, after a moment, he picked up his phone and dialed a number. “It’s time to stop.”

As soon as he said this, the voice of Craig Group’s CEO rang out from Bonnie’s phone, “They stopped! They finally stopped attacking us! Craig Group is saved! “

When she heard the CEO’s exclamations, Bonnie lifted her head to glance at Bethan, who was still shielding her from Brettley’s view and could not help feeling a little crestfallen.

Her original plan…was to help Bethan out of her pinch.

Bethan had helped her so many times in the past; all she wanted was to repay Bethan’s kindness once and for all.

Unfortunately, Bonnie could not compete with Brettley at all–this was the first time she witnessed just how powerful and influential this man was. She possessed a net worth of ten billion dollars, yet this man could reduce her fortune to next to nothing in a little over ten minutes. This meant that Bethan…

Bethan turned around and glanced at the backdrop behind her, which was still displaying the Craig Group’s market shares.

As soon as Brettley gave his orders, the Craig Group’s shares, which were hovering dangerously low, immediately started to rise again, reaching their previous peak after a few minutes.

Bethan sighed in relief.

The entire room fell into pin-drop silence.

As they had witnessed the extent of Brettley Morrison’s capabilities, no one in the audience even dared to gossip about him anymore. Instead, they all stared in silent admiration at the man who almost single- handedly bankrupted a company.

Meanwhile, Fiona, who was sitting next to Brettley, clenched her fists in fury.

She had witnessed firsthand just how powerful Brettley was. Not only was this man handsome and well- mannered, but most importantly, he possessed insurmountable wealth and resources.

This was a man she wanted to rely on for the rest of her life, but everything he did this night was for Bethan…

Fiona narrowed her eyes and glanced at Bethan, a glint of malice flashing through her eyes.

Everything was settled for the time being.

The emcee let out an awkward cough and tried fervently to salvage the situation. “Hahahaha! What an exciting night, isn’t it? Since we’ve moved on from what happened just now, let the festivities begin! Please enjoy!”

As soon as he finished his sentence, mellow, joyous music started to play from the speakers within the hall. After that, everyone in the audience visibly relaxed and started having fun.

As soon as Bethan and Bonnie alighted from the stage, Lucas stopped them. “Bethan, Mr. Morrison wants to see you.”

Bonnie bit down on her lip and grabbed hold of Bethan’s hand. However, Bethan did not seem fazed by this and smiled at her instead. “Don’t worry.

Nothing’s going to happen.”

Bethan exhaled and turned to follow Lucas.

Brettley and Fiona were sitting on a sofa toward the left of the hall. After what happened back there, all the guests were intimidated by Brettley and did not dare come close to him. Instead, they huddled around the right half of the hall, eating, drinking, and dancing the night away.

The left half of the hall, where Brettley was sitting, was quiet and empty, as though it were in a different dimension.

Bethan followed Lucas to where Brettley and Fiona were sitting and plopped down on the sofa across from him. Brettley gracefully slid a cup of coffee toward her and said, “How do you like the gift I prepared for you?”

What he meant was his attacks on Craig Group.

Bethan bit down on her lip and stared at him coldly. “

Why did you have to do this to me, Mr. Morrison?”

“No particular reason,”

Brettley smirked and fiddled with the matching ring he had on. “I just didn’t want Morrison Group to lose a talented designer like you.”

With that, he lifted his head and fixated his dark, penetrating gaze on Bethan. “Ms. Bethan, this morning, you just finalized a contract worth ten million dollars with me, so how could I let you go so easily? How could I let such a good business opportunity slip by?”

Bethan sucked in a deep breath.

She knew that this was just an excuse. Brettley probably thought Bethan did not know this, but the amount of manpower he used to stage his attack on Craig Group was easily worth three to four times more than their contract !

“Yes. Ms. Bethan is such a talented designer. It’d be such a pity if you left Morrison Group.”

Fiona gave Bethan a gentle smile and said in a sweet voice, still lying in Brettley’s arms, “Besides, I’ in quite fond of Ms. Bethan. If you truly left Morrison Group, I’d be devastated.”

Then, she lifted her gaze and stared at Bethan, a hint of provocation in her glimmering eyes. “Ms. Bethan, please stay and continue working at Morrison Group. I was hoping I ‘d have the opportunity to learn from you in the future.”

She fixated her gentle gaze on Brettley and added, “

Brettley, don’t you think it’s a good idea for me to learn from Ms. Bethan? Maybe if I managed to learn a lot from her, I might be able to work for Morrison Group in the future, too!”

Brettley narrowed his eyes slightly, then chuckled and patted Fiona’s shoulder in reassurance. “There’s no need. You have a weak body, and I wouldn’t want you to be too tired.”

With that, he glanced at Bethan coldly and said, “As long as I can keep such a gifted designer as Ms. Bethan on board, that’s enough for me.”

Bethan clenched her fists. As much as she wanted to hurl something at the couple sitting before her, she stifled her temptations and replied, “Thank you so much for your support and admiration, Mr. Morrison.”

With that, she picked up a glass of wine that was sitting on the table and drained it under Brettley’s watchful gaze, slamming the glass back down as she remarked, “Please enjoy the party.

“Oh, by the way…”

She turned around and smiled at Fiona. “Ms. Blake, you mentioned that you wanted to learn from me. Well, let me tell you this: I don’t think you’ll ever have the opportunity to do so because I don’t take apprentices like you. You don’t have any talent whatsoever, and you’re not even willing to work hard to make up for it. Goodbye.”

With that, Bethan turned around and strode away.

Brettley remained motionless and watched the hem of Bethan’s blue satin dress sway with her every step.

Then, he narrowed his eyes.

“Ms. Bethan must really hate me…”

Fiona suppressed the jealousy and hatred she harbored toward Bethan and put on a pained expression instead. “Brettley, is she right? Am I untalented and lazy, too?”

She continued in a whiny voice, “I’ve been trying very hard now…”

Hearing that she was about to burst into tears, Brettley let out a sigh but did not know what to do apart from consoling her. “You’re already good enough. Don’t listen to her…”

Bethan overheard what he said and recalled what Jude had told her. She could not help feeling stupid for ever trusting Jude’s words and believing that Brettley had, at one point, been in love with her.

How could Brettley be as good as Jude described him to be?

Bethan had known him for so many years; she should have known better.

She did not understand what had gotten into her and led her to believe everything Jude said.

After leaving Brettley and Fiona behind, Bethan headed backstage in search of Bonnie.

At this moment, Bonnie was perched on a stool, reading some messages on her phone dazedly while Shannon stood next to her, trying to comfort her, “I know you’re trying to help Bethan, but you were once a reporter, Bonnie. You should know better than to offend Brettley; he’s the most terrifying man in Banyan City. I can’t even imagine the consequences of offending him…

“Even though you’re the third wealthiest person in Banyan City now, you still can’t compare to Brettley Morrison. The extent of his fortune and power are on a whole new level… Don’t overestimate yourself again in the future. I know you care about Bethan, but there are just some things we can’t help her with…”

Bonnie closed her eyes and heaved a deep sigh. “

Bethan has helped me so many times, so I wanted to return her kindness with money, that’s all.”

That was her only intention. Unfortunately, she did not get to execute it at all, simply because Brettley did not allow it and forbade Bethan from leaving Morrison Group.

Bonnie could not help but feel a little suffocated by this sudden thought. “How can Brettley Morrison be so selfish and self-centered?”

“He’s always been selfish and self-centered,”

Bethan chimed in, her lips curled into a smirk.

Hearing her voice, Bonnie and Shannon looked up at the same time.

They could smell the stench of alcohol wafting off Bethan’s body.

Bethan approached them and grabbed Bonnie’s hand. “

I understand that you want to help me, but please don’t do stupid things like this in the future anymore. I had my own reasons for helping you in the past. It wasn’t entirely selfless at all, so you don’t have to repay me.”

With that, she let out an exhale and lowered her head to glance at the time. “It’s getting late now, so I ‘m going to head home. My two children are still waiting for me to go home. They refuse to go to bed without me.”

Bonnie let out a sigh. Even though she disagreed with Bethan, there was still nothing she could do for the time being.

Tonight, she finally witnessed firsthand just how powerful and terrifying Brettley Morrison could be.

No matter how much she wanted to help Bethan, Bonnie still had Craig Group as well as its employees to think about.
