Bethan replied to all their kind messages. Just as she was about to go to sleep, however, her phone vibrated with a new notification.
It was a video from Brettley.
Bethan furrowed her brows and clicked the video.
The video seemed to be taken from someone’s bed. Judging from the bedspread and the interior design, Bethan knew that this was Brettley’s bedroom.
What was Brettley doing, sending this to her?
Bethan frowned and was about to click off the video when she spotted something.
A pair of slender, fair legs had appeared in the center of the frame.
“Brettley, are you done?” a soft, gentle voice rang out.
Bethan recognized this voice. She could not help curling her lips into a sneer.
Did Fiona film this while sitting on Brettley’s bed?
“I ‘m done.”
Brettley’s low voice rang out from the other side of the door. The door was pushed open a moment later, and Brettley entered, clutching a bowl that appeared to be hot to the touch.
He was wearing a khaki men’s apron over his white shirt and trousers.
He set down the bowl on the table and shot Fiona a gentle but somewhat feeble smile. “I already told you, you shouldn’t drink with you weak your body is, but you still insisted. This is my first time making soup, and I’m not sure how it tastes. Why don’t you give it a try?”
The video stopped.
Bethan played the video again and again, gripping her phone tightly. She spent the entire night replaying the video, over and over.
After countless watches, her heart ached so much that it started to turn numb.
It turned out that Nigel had taken after his father after all.
Brettley Morrison had always been tender and thoughtful. It was just a matter of who he was with.
Bethan did not sleep well the entire night, so even though she had drunk soup before she went to bed, she still woke up the next morning with an ear- splitting headache.
Despite this, she forced herself to crawl out of bed and glanced at her phone.
There were two new messages from Brettley.
(Fiona was fiddling with my phone just now, and she sent you a message by mistake.]
(Just pretend like you never saw it.]
Bethan felt like her headache grew even more severe. She felt as though someone continuously poked her scalp with a needle, and the pain was starting to irritate her.
She tossed her phone aside and closed her eyes, recalling Brettley’s messages.
Fiona had sent the message to her by mistake and wanted her to pretend like she never saw it.
Brettley was a smart man, so Bethan guessed that he probably knew what Fiona was actually trying to do: showcasing her authority.
Despite that, he still tolerated her behavior, so what right did Bethan have to object to this?
Bethan lied in bed for a long time before she finally exhaled and crawled out of bed to get ready for work.
As soon as she stepped through the doors of the design department, she saw Shannon gesturing to her.
Bethan asked, puzzled, “What’s wrong?”
Shannon pointed at Bethan’s office door, which was still closed, and mouthed, “Fiona is inside.”
Bethan’s brows furrowed. What was Fiona doing in her office so early in the morning?
“How could you let her in?”
Even though Bethan did not keep valuables in her office, it was still her workspace, and therefore contained project proposals and drafts of her designs. These might not seem like valuable items to some, but to Bethan, the consequences would be dire if she lost any of them.
Shannon let out a feeble sigh and approached Bethan, lowering her voice as she apologized, “She’s the CEO’s girlfriend. She insisted on entering your office, so we had no choice but to let her…”
Bethan pursed her lips.
Shannon was right. She could not blame them for letting Fiona into her office.
Fiona had sent her a video using Brettley’s phone to demonstrate her authority. Even then, Brettley still managed to find an excuse for her actions, claiming that she had sent the message by mistake.
Even though Fiona had barged into her office without permission, Bethan knew she would not face any repercussions for her actions. Even if Fiona somehow burned her entire office down, Brettley would still find a way to excuse her behavior.
Bethan let out an exhale and regained her composure before she walked to her office and pushed the door open.
Inside the office, Fiona was standing with her body tilted slightly, pouring a sachet of white powder into Bethan’s water.
The powder soon dissolved in the water and disappeared entirely from view.
While pouring the sachet, Fiona muttered under her breath, grinning, “She can’t possibly tell.”
Shannon, who had followed Bethan into the room, spotted what Fiona was doing and immediately roared, “Ms. Blake, what are you doing?”
Was she trying to poison Director Bethan? How dare she?
Even if Brettley was rooting for her, she still should not have barged into Bethan’s office and tried to poison her in broad daylight.
Fiona’s entire body stiffened when she heard Shannon’s voice. She drew her hand back, but after a moment, she seemed to recall something and extended her hand to touch the glass again.
Before her fingers could even make contact with the glass, however, a hand reached out and took it away.
The person who took the glass away was Zayne.
He glanced at the glass of water in his hand, which was still clear and uncloudy, and smirked. “What would happen if someone drank this, Ms. Blake?”
An expression of panic clouded Fiona’s face. She bit down on her lip, her eyes turning red-rimmed. “Give that glass back to me.”
Shannon scoffed. “Give it back to you so you can destroy the evidence?”
With that, she picked up the phone and dialed the extension for Brettley’s secretary. “Courtney, ask President Morrison to come to the design department right now. His girlfriend Fiona got herself in trouble again! “
Yesterday, Fiona had deliberately poured coffee all over Arianna and claimed that Bethan’s assistants were trying to get rid of her. Today, she was caught red – handed trying to poison Bethan. How was she planning to explain this? Was she going to claim that Bethan’s assistants were trying to frame her again?
“Shannon…”
Seeing that Shannon had called Brettley’s office, tears welled up in Fiona’s eyes once more. “It’s just a tiny matter. Why did you have to call Brettley…”
She turned and shot Bethan a pitiful look. “Ms. Bethan, I wasn’t trying to poison you. Please listen to me…”
“You weren’t trying to poison her?”
Before Bethan could even speak, Shannon immediately glared at Fiona and yelled, “Director Bethan has security cameras in her office ! Are you trying to lie your way out of this? Even if you managed to avoid the cameras, you still couldn’t hide from us. Every single one of us saw you pour some white powder into Bethan’s glass! “
The more she spoke, the more riled up Shannon got. “Ms. Blake, I don’t understand what you’re trying to achieve here. Yes, Director Bethan was involved with President Morrison in the past, but that was so long ago. Why are you still holding this against her?
“If you don’t like her, why don’t you just ask President Morrison to fire her instead? That’d save you s o much time and effort! On one end, you tried to force Director Bethan to stay, but on the other hand, you’re doing this kind of stuff on the down-low.
Aren’t you tired of leading this double life?”
Shannon had always been an impartial person. In the past, despite knowing Bethan and Alice’s rivalry, she had never taken a stand, nor had she ever stood up for Bethan.
However, after witnessing everything that happened the last two days, Shannon could no longer tolerate any of this. Fiona’s actions had angered her.
She knew that Fiona was out to get Bethan, but she had never seen anyone as manipulative as Fiona. She tried desperately to get rid of Bethan, yet at the same time, pretended to be weak and sickly to gain sympathy.
“Shannon….”
Fiona fixated her red -rimmed eyes on Shannon and whimpered, “How can you say that…? I was just… I was just trying to…”
All of a sudden, she broke out into fits of coughing. She clutched the front of her shirt tightly, coughing so hard that she could not even say another word.
Shannon rolled her eyes at Fiona. “Stop pretending.”
Bethan furrowed her brows. She could not help frowning as she watched the color gradually drain from Fiona’s face. “You…”
