Chapter 52 – Secrets Of The Neglected Wife When Her True Colors Shine

Feigning innocence, Melany chimed in, “How could Allison be so heartless? You treated her like family. And now, in your time of pain, she won’t even part with a single pill. She really is cold.” Melany never missed an opportunity to undermine Allison, seizing every chance to sow discord.

“She’s truly despicable,” Lindy muttered, seething. “Not only does she refuse the medication, but she even spun lies to-“

Before Melany could finish, a cup flew past her cheek, shattering on the floor in a shower of glass. “I am writhing in pain, and you’re still talking nonsense!” Lindy screamed, her head pounding as if someone were drilling into her skull. She pushed Melany’s hands aside, her temper flaring. “Allison is nothing but a soulless ingrate! She sees me suffering and won’t even offer the medication!”

Her rage only aggravated her headache, and she screamed in misery.

She turned her gaze to Colton, her eyes filled with fiery determination. “Colton, I don’t care what it takes, you’ll get that medicine from Allison! I can’t endure this any longer. If you don’t want to see me dead, then go now and get it!”

Unable to hold back her anger, Lindy shoved Melany once again. “Stop with the massage! Your hands are useless. You can’t even compare to Allison!” The longer she looked at Melany, the more upset she became. Melany had not only failed to secure the collaboration, but now she was also unable to perform these minor tasks. What good was she?

Melany’s face fell, but she didn’t dare respond. She could only look at Colton with tear-filled eyes, feeling wronged. “I’ve done all I can.”

Colton, feeling a mix of sorrow and frustration, said, “Mom, no matter how angry you are, don’t take it out on Melany.”

Lindy, her headache intensifying, looked at Colton’s frown and Melany’s mournful expression. To her, it seemed as though the two were flirting, completely ignoring her suffering.

In a flash of fury, Lindy swept all of the cups and dishes off the table, sending them crashing to the floor in a shower of broken porcelain.

“What good are you two?” she spat, her voice sharp with pain. “I’m in excruciating agony, and you’re standing there exchanging sweet nothings! If you don’t get me that medication, don’t blame me for turning against you both!”

Colton lowered his head, murmuring, “I get it.” He knew Lindy’s temperament well. When her illness flared up, she became a storm of irritability. For now, he had no choice but to leave with Melany, planning to secure the medicine later.

Melany glanced up at him, her eyes feigning sympathy. “Colton, Lindy’s headache must be unbearable right now. Why don’t we go to Allison’s and get the medication? It’s a life-or-death situation. We can’t afford to wait.”

Her innocent demeanor concealed a darker hope. Deep down, she secretly wished Lindy would suffer just a bit longer, but in front of Colton, she had to maintain her mask of concern.

Colton took a deep breath. “Yeah, we don’t have any other options. Whether she likes it or not, Allison will give us the medicine. Worst case, I can make it up to her later, tenfold.”

He pressed the gas pedal, and before long, they arrived at the Green family’s villa.

Meanwhile, Allison was preparing to leave for the Lloyd Mansion, the medication already in her grasp. She looked up as the two unwelcome visitors approached, their intentions clear on their faces. Her expression turned icy. “What brings you here?”

Colton, having endured a barrage of scolding that day, was already on edge. But with the medication in Allison’s possession, he knew he had to swallow his pride and try to tug at her heartstrings.

“Allison, I know I’ve messed up a lot, but my mother really cared for you like family. Don’t you remember all the bags and clothes she gave you? After the divorce, she even wanted to pass on her favorite bracelet…”

Allison cut him off with a sharp laugh. “Scram. Don’t waste my time.”

Colton had unwittingly struck a nerve. The gifts Lindy had given her had been more about flaunting wealth than offering genuine affection. Lindy had been embarrassed by Allison’s simple style and would have mocked her for using those items. As for the bracelet, it was nothing more than a manipulative tactic to gain access to the Cobweb, a cheap ploy that Colton now audaciously referenced. Did he truly think she was still the naive, compliant girl she once was?

Seeing that the emotional appeal wasn’t working, Melany jumped in, her voice laced with false innocence. “Allison, how can you be so cold-hearted? You have the medicine, but you won’t share it. Are you really going to let Lindy suffer like this? This is practically murder! Surely, you can’t be so immoral. This will come back to haunt you.”

Allison had reached her breaking point.

It was clear that Colton and Melany were trying to take the moral high ground, pressuring her into handing over the medication.

“Yes, I do have the medicine,” Allison said, smiling as she waved the package teasingly. “But why should I give it to you? Why not use it to save someone more deserving? After all, saving a good person has more merit than saving a bad one.”

Colton’s gaze locked onto the medication, desperation evident in his eyes. He knew Allison was playing with them, but without the medication…

Noticing the storm brewing in Colton’s expression, Allison raised an eyebrow and continued, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “What, are you planning to snatch it from me right here in front of the Green family’s residence? Security’s tight. And tell me, Mr. Stevens-how’s that injured finger of yours? Healed yet?”

Colton froze. This woman was outright threatening him!

He had just been discharged from the hospital that morning, and his finger still throbbed with raw pain. Hearing Allison’s taunt made him instinctively clench his fist, sending fresh waves of agony through him.

Moreover, this was the Green family’s territory. Trying to forcibly take anything here would not only provoke them but escalate tensions between the Stevens and Green families-something Colton couldn’t afford, especially after their joint venture had already fallen apart.

Colton forced out a cold laugh. “I’m not as crude as you think.”

Allison waved dismissively. “You should focus more on your partnership with the Everett Group, Mr. Stevens. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have more pressing matters to attend to.”

She still had someone to save, and she wasn’t about to waste another moment with them.

With that, she turned and hopped into her car, speeding off without a second glance, leaving only a cloud of dust in her wake.

Melany, witnessing the scene unfold, feigned concern. “What do we do, Colton? There’s only one pill left, and it’s in Allison’s hands.”

Internally, she reveled in the situation, eager for Lindy to endure a bit more misery. But she couldn’t openly admit it. Failing to retrieve the medicine would only worsen Lindy’s already sharp treatment of her, especially after Lindy had been passive-aggressive since the Perfumery Competition.

“Lindy insists we must get the medication at all costs,” Melany said, subtly nudging Colton toward more extreme measures. “She’s right. If she doesn’t get relief soon, something serious could happen. We can always apologize to Allison later.”

After all, Lindy had made it clear that any means necessary would be used, and the Stevens family had individuals skilled at handling such dirty work.

Melany smirked slightly, fully aware of how ruthless those people could be. “If Lindy finds out we failed, she’ll be furious.”

Colton’s face darkened with inner conflict. “It seems we have no other choice.”

He knew that once those people got involved, everything would spiral out of control.

But Allison had left him no other option. After a moment of hesitation, he made the call, sending the license plate number of Allison’s car to his subordinates.

“Follow that car,” Colton instructed, his voice steady and grim. “Find a way to corner her in an alley. But unless absolutely necessary, avoid violence. Just get the medication.”

Allison was navigating through a crowded part of the city when she noticed two black cars tailing her from a distance. They maintained a steady gap-never too close, yet never too far. Time and again, they nearly boxed her in.

“Trying to herd me into a dead end?” Allison scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain.

Unfazed, she executed a sharp swerve, veering off the overpass into an older part of town, guiding them into a narrow alley-a true dead end.

She couldn’t help but smile slightly. A dead end? Perfect. Just the way she liked it.

After confirming the coast was clear and devoid of surveillance, Allison calmly stepped out of her car.

The two black vehicles screeched to a halt, and several tattooed thugs draped in thick gold chains piled out, led by a man with striking blond hair.

The leader gave her a patronizing look. “Sweetheart, we both know why we’re here. That medicine-hand it over, or we’ll take it by force,” he threatened, his tone laced with mockery.

These men were no professionals-just local toughs.

Allison casually flexed her wrist. “Losers! You can all come at me together.” Her expression remained icy.
