“Where are we going?” Frowning, Matthew asked.
“Home. You’ve been wondering when we’re going to take you home, haven’t you? We’re sending you home tomorrow.”
Matthew nodded. And he stood up and walked around the room after the man had gone. Seeing that, Alicia attempted to get out of the closet, but Matthew shut the door and stopped her. With a long face, he said to Alicia, “Don’t make a sound.”
Before leaving, the man stood in the doorway for a long time. And Matthew opened the locker door after making sure no one was outside.
“Are you all right? “Alicia expressed her concern as soon as she got out of the closet, “Spit it out! They out some sleeping pills the dishes!”
“It’s too late,” Matthew said, frowning, “I’ve been in this room every day for the last few days. And I would sleep until noon the next day after each dinner, so of course, I know what’s in the meal. However, if I refuse to eat, they will be suspicious.”
“Tammy and Natalie are outside waiting. I’ll get you out of here,” Alicia said with determination.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t,” Shaking his head in despair, Matthew replied.
The drugs kicked in. And soon, Matthew felt that everything in front of him becoming a blur. As he sat down slowly, holding the table, Matthew said to Alicia, “You should go now.”
“No, I can’t leave you alone here. Let me help you up.”
“No! You should leave now, Alicia,” Matthew whispered. He then spoke something with all his strength.
“What did you say?” Alicia asked as she helped him out the door. She had only taken a few steps into the courtyard when the door to the other room burst open. Then Alicia and the man standing in the doorway saw each other at the same time.
At that moment, Alicia widened her eyes in surprise. She suddenly realized what Matthew had just said was, “They saw us.” And she thought, Oh, crap! Why didn’t you tell me earlier, Matthew? Damn it! We’re so screwed!
Half an hour later, Alicia was tied up in the corner of the room while Matthew had already passed out. And the kidnappers began their discussion.
“What should we do to handle the girl?”
“Is she the boy’s sister Tammy Wright?”
“Probably. I’ll ask the boss what we should do about her. We’re getting a lot of credit if she’s really Tammy, right? We caught two Wrights at the same time!”

Outside the courtyard, Tammy and Natalie waited until midnight. Tammy couldn’t stand up, so she panicked even more.

“Just wait a little longer.” Tammy was nervous, but there was nothing she could do but wait. She felt bad for involving Alicia in this whole mess. If anything happens to Alicia, I’ll never forgive myself! Tammy thought to herself.

A while later, Matthew woke up in the back of a pickup truck. He then heard someone gasping for air. As he looked around, he found Alicia, who was sitting not far away.
Alicia’s lips were taped shut. As a result, she could only make whimpering noises. And Matthew crawled to her side and helped her in removing the tape. “What’s going on?” he asked.
After Matthew helped her remove the tape, Alicia exhaled deeply, then lowered her voice and said, “This morning, they threw us both in the truck. I’m not sure where they’re trying to take us.”
“Don’t be afraid,” Matthew said with a frown, “The road is unusually bumpy, so we might be on a mountain road rather than a highway.”
Along the way, the truck came to a halt several times. And Matthew and Alicia suspected they intended to take them to the mountains and murder them. Panicked, Alicia asked, “How come they didn’t kill us in Birmingham?”
Compared with Alicia, Matthew was quite calm. And he replied, “I suspect they didn’t agree on this. Someone appears to want to take us alive.”
The truck stopped soon. Then someone opened the truck door and threw two bags of bread and two bottles of water at them. “There’s still a long way to go. Have something to eat, kids. You two had better not be planning on escaping! You’re not going to fool me!” said the man who opened the door.
Hearing that, Alicia began to tremble violently in fear. Sitting next to her, Matthew took her hand in his to comfort her. They heard a loud “bang” soon, making Alicia more terrified. To their surprise, everything then fell silent.
“What is going on?” Alicia asked. At the same time, she wanted to look through the door.
“Stay here. I’ll go out and check.” Matthew pushed the door open slightly. He returned quickly after looking out.
“What’s the matter?”
“He’s dead.”
In disbelief, Alicia asked, “Really? Is someone coming to save us?”
“I’m afraid not.” Matthew appeared even more serious than he had been. If someone had come to save us, they would not have killed anyone. Perhaps things are worse than I thought, He thought to himself.
Through the gap, Matthew noticed a man approaching them. The man was wearing a black mask and holding a gun, which made him look terrifying. The instant the man slammed the trunk door open, he found no one inside, which took him by surprise.
Just as the man was wondering what he should do next, he heard the sound of the truck’s engine. The next second, the truck moved quickly forward. With a darkened face, the man put away his guns and drove after this truck.
In the driving seat, Matthew gripped the steering wheel of the truck firmly. The sound of sharp brakes echoed across the valley as he turned the car sharply. Alicia, who was sitting in the passenger seat, tightened her grip on her seat belt.
“Do you have a driver’s license?” She asked, her voice trembling.
“No.”
Looking at Matthew in disbelief, Alicia began to shake with fear. “It’s okay if you don’t have it. Tammy says you have wilderness survival skills and you are a very lucky guy. So we’ll definitely survive this time, right?”
Just as she finished speaking, a bullet shattered the glass on the passenger side. It flew out the driver’s side window and nearly hit her. Both windows were shot through and shattered like spider webs the next moment. And Alicia started praying, shouting, “God! Why did I get myself into this mess? Why? “
“Ah! Stop!” Alicia yelled as she saw a cliff ahead of them. She was sure that if Matthew didn’t slam on the brakes at this point, they’d both fall off the cliff.
“Sit tight!” Matthew slammed the gas pedal down.
With her eyes closed, Alicia kept shouting in panic. She thought to herself, It’s all over! The fake news in the papers will come true. The president of the Carousel Group died after falling off a cliff, and an innocent girl died with him.
Then the truck crashed on a stone with a loud bang. Following that, smoke and dust filled the air. And a huge rock slid down the hillside, obstructing the road behind them. Alicia choked on the smoke, so she then kept coughing.
“Come on, let’s get out of the car,” Matthew said as he unbuckled his seat belt.
“What should we do now?” Gasping for air, Alicia asked.
“Run.”
Hearing Matthew’s words, Alicia had never felt so helpless in her life. “Are you sure? Run?”
“Do you want to die here?”
“No!”
