Shortly after Cassian left, the doctor arrived. When he approached to examine her, Alessandro stopped him. “Don’t touch her.”
“But I need to touch her to examine her,” the doctor protested.
“Do it without touching her.”
“But, Your Majesty”
Alessandro shot the doctor a murderous look, which was enough to silence him.
The doctor examined her as best he could without touching her. “Do you know if she has had a fever or if she has one now?” he asked.
When Alessandro had touched Abril’s body, he felt it was warm, so he responded, “I think she has a slight fever.”
“Has she shown any other symptoms?” the doctor inquired.
“She’s asleep and won’t wake up no matter how much we talk to her,” Alessandro said.
The doctor checked the princess’s nails and lips to rule out poisoning. However, at first glance, she seemed merely asleep, with no signs of illness. “Your Majesty, without touching the princess, it’s impossible to know what’s wrong. I need to take her pulse to ensure it’s not a pregnancy.”
“Fine, but wear gloves,” Alessandro commanded.
“That will make it a bit difficult.”
“Do it,” Alessandro insisted.
The king was so intimidating that the doctor had no choice but to obey. He took the princess’s pulse, and as he frowned, Alessandro anxiously asked, “Is she pregnant?”
“No, Your Majesty. It’s just that her pulse is very weak,” the doctor replied.
“And what does she have?” Alessandro demanded.
“I don’t know. It might be better to call a mage,” the doctor suggested.
“I already have. If you have nothing else to do, leave,” Alessandro ordered.
The doctor gathered his things and left the room, leaving them alone. Alessandro put on gloves to avoid touching Abril directly, held her hand, and whispered, “Please wake up.”
Cassian had to use several scrolls to reach the mage tower where Sirius was. Using multiple scrolls at once caused significant physical strain, but Cassian didn’t care. He had a bad feeling about what was happening to Abril, so he used them without taking any breaks. After breaking the last scroll, he appeared in the tower’s courtyard, dizzy and weak, barely able to stand.
Sirius was at the top of the tower, observing the courtyard when he saw Cassian appear suddenly. Seeing that Cassian was in bad shape, he quickly descended to meet him using magic, reaching his side in minutes. Cassian was about to collapse, and Sirius held him up, asking, “Prince Cassian! What are you doing here, and in this state?”
“It’s Abril, she’s not well,” Cassian replied.
“That’s not important right now. Your condition is not good, Prince Cassian. How many scrolls did you use to get here?” Sirius asked.
“Three, maybe four. I’m a bit dazed right now, I don’t remember well,” Cassian admitted.
“In one day?”
“In one hour,” Cassian corrected.
“You’re crazy! That could kill anyone. Let’s go inside, you need to rest,” Sirius insisted.
“No, Abril is more important right now. Her magic seems to have gone out of control,” Cassian explained.
“What?” Sirius exclaimed.
“You need to go to Sasette. My brother and the princess are there,” Cassian urged.
“Wait a moment. What do you mean her magic is out of control?” Sirius asked.
“When I touched her, I felt as if all pain, all wounds or injuries I had, disappeared,” Cassian explained.
“Your leg?” Sirius asked.
“I think it’s fine now, but Abril is unconscious. Lessan tried to wake her, but it was impossible. She’s in some kind of deep sleep,” Cassian said.
“I need to see her, but first, I’ll take you inside,” Sirius insisted.
“I’m going with you,” Cassian declared.
‘Absolutely not. Using more scrolls to teleport would be suicide. I won’t let you do that,” Sirius stated firmly.
“But Abril…” Cassian protested.
“There’s nothing His Majesty can do for the princess right now. The only thing you can do is rest and regain your strength,” Sirius said.
“But….” Cassian began.
“I’ll be clear, Prince Cassian. You would only be a hindrance if you accompany me in this state, and it would take me even longer to help the princess,” Sirius said bluntly.
Cassian clenched his hand into a fist. Though Sirius’s words were harsh, Cassian knew they were true, so he stopped insisting on accompanying him. Sirius took Cassian inside the tower, left him in a room, and after asking one of the mages to take care of the prince, he headed to the mining city of Sisette, where the king and the princess were.
Sirius knew it was urgent to reach the princess because when a person’s magic got out of control, the bearer could die. So he used teleportation scrolls and air magic to get there as quickly as possible without risking his life.
Alessanden heid Abel’s hand wondering when she would wake up. Just a day ago, everything seemed fine he pondered when it had all gone wrong. He caressed her face with his gloves, fearing that touching her dearly might make her condition worse
“Aw, please wake up. I promised to show you many beautiful places in my kingdom.”
Alessandro had pleaded for her to awaken more times than he could remember, but she remained asleep, lost in that deep slumber with no sign of waking
Abril didn’t know if she was awake or if what she was experiencing was a dream. She found herself in the middle of nowhere, in an empty space filled with darkness, a darkness as thick as ink where nothing could be seen. She was the only point of light in that place, her body emitting a faint glow, allowing her to see every part of herself perfectly.
She walked aimlessly through the darkness, searching for an exit, but there seemed to be none. Despite this, she did not give up and kept walking. Suddenly, in the midst of that darkness, she saw a small point of light. She followed it for what seemed like hours until she felt tired and stopped abruptly, wondering why she was following that light.
Seeing that she was no longer following, the light stopped and approached Abril, as if encouraging her to continue. Abril resumed following it until she found a door. She hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to open it or not, but the light encouraged her to do so.
Upon opening the door, a brilliant and blinding light shone, erasing the infinite darkness. Abril blinked several times to adjust her vision to the light and was surprised to see in front of her a beautiful valley full of flowers. She could feel the softness of the grass under her feet, smell the sweet aroma of the flowers, and feel the warmth of the sun’s rays on her skin. She wondered, “Is this real?”
A voice behind her answered, “It is, and yet it isn’t.”
Abril turned around, wanting to know who owned that sweet and melodious voice speaking to her. A beautiful woman with bright blonde hair, like threads of gold, stood before her. The woman was stunning, with delicate features and lips as red as mistletoe. But what caught Abril’s attention the most were her eyes; they were golden, just like hers.
“Who are you?”
“You already know who I am, my little one. I have always been with you.”
Abril knew deep down. She had never seen a portrait of her mother, but without a doubt, this woman was her mother.
“Mom?”
The woman gave her a sweet smile and extended her arms towards her, giving her a warm embrace.
“Yes, my little one, I am your mother.”
Abril returned the embrace. Although it was the first time she saw this woman, she felt as if she had finally come home after a long journey, as if all the problems and difficulties up to that moment had completely disappeared.
Abril stayed in her mother’s arms, enjoying the warmth of her embrace, the gentle caress as she touched her reddish hair, and the sweet voice that spoke words of affection.
“My little morning light, my beautiful light, how much you have grown, you have become a beautiful woman.”
“Am I dreaming?”
“Yes and no. Your soul has left your body and is in between the two worlds, the physical and the spiritual.”
“Am I dead?”
Abril’s mother smiled sweetly and answered with a smile, “No, my little one, your body is just sleeping. When your soul returns to your body, you will wake up.”
“Why am I here?”
“I brought you to this place. I made your physical and spiritual bodies separate.”
“Why?”
“Because your magic was overflowing.”
