Alessandro stopped, stared at her intently, and said,
“I love your smile.”
Abril touched the corner of Lessan’s mouth and said,
“I also like seeing you smile because it tells me that you’re happy when you’re with me.”
“I am. You truly fill my life with happiness, light, and hope. Being with you is the best thing that’s happened to me in a long time.”
Someone knocked on the room door, and Alessandro and Alessandro complained, saying,
“It seems our time is up; we must get ready”
Alessandro got up first, took his underwear the Pants out of one of the trunks, and after putting them on, he looked for a shirt. Abril sat bed and said to him,
“Lessan.”
He turned around when he heard her call. She was covered only with a thin white sheet, and he could see perfectly what was underneath. He looked directly into her eyes to keep bad thoughts at bay.
“I must think of something sacred. Don’t lose control, Alessandro”
He thought as he struggled not to attack her and make love to her once more. She smiled at him and said,
“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Thank you for being with me, for loving me. You’re the first person who has loved me.”
Alessandro approached her, kissed her, and caressed her hair.
“I’m the one who should thank you. Despite everything I did to you, ignoring you for years and neglecting you, you opened your heart to me.”
“And I would do it again because you have given me something I never thought I would have, a family and a home.”
Alessandro kissed her, just then someone knocked on the door again, and he complained and said,
“They’re certainly untimely.”
Abril got out of bed, she was completely naked, went to the wardrobe, and looked for a dress that was easy to put on. Alessandro, seeing her like that, felt fire in his veins; it was like having a delicious meal after months without eating. He looked away, trying to keep his instincts in check, and said.
“You shouldn’t be naked in front of me; you should cover up when you get up.”
“Why? You’ve already seen me naked and touched me all over.”
Alessandro stood up, wrapped his arms around her waist, and whispered in her ear.
“That’s exactly why. When you show yourself like that in front of me, I want to make love to you, and we don’t have time to do it.”
“So I can only be naked when we’re going to make love.”
“It would be better that way; otherwise, I’d want to eat you.”
Abril grabbed the nearest dress, covered herself with it somewhat fearfully, and asked,
“Do you want to eat me? But you said you loved me.”
Alessandro laughed, sometimes forgetting that Abril tended to take everything literally, and said to her,
“I mean making love to you, not literally eating you.”
“Then why did you say you eat me?”
“It’s just a figure of speech.”
“But eating and making love are nothing alike; they’re two completely different things.”
“I’d never actually eat you; I just mean I’d make love to you.”
“Next time, just say that. Sometimes you really scare me.”
Alessandro let her go, put on his shirt and shoes, and said,
“I’ll wait for you in the dining room and call someone to help you change.”
Alessandro found a maid in the hallway, asked her to help his wife change, and then headed to the dining room.
Cassian was already in the dining room, and Alessandro looked so cheerful that Cassian couldn’t help but ask,
“Why are you so cheerful?”
“I just find Abril’s innocence amusing; a moment ago, she literally thought I was going to eat her.” “King Venobich neglected her education, that’s why sometimes she behaves like a little girl.” “While her innocence is endearing, she can’t stay that way. When we return to the palace, I’ll find teachers to oversee her education. I don’t want my queen to be mistreated due to ignorance.”
That was the first time Cassian heard his brother calling Abril his queen; he always referred to her as a princess, never giving her the place of the queen of Cosset.
“So, you plan to make Abril your queen?”
She is my wife, she is already my queen.”
Cassian was surprised by the firmness with which Alessandro had responded to him, even though Abril had not yet been crowned queen, he had already given her her place as his queen.
“Are you going to crown Abril?”
“Of course, when we got married she was very young, I think this is a good time to crown her as my queen. Well, first I’ll have to look into her education; I don’t want her to be mistreated for lacking the necessary knowledge.”
“I thought you would never accept her as your queen, since her father is King Venobich.”
“She is not her father.”
“You know that perhaps the nobles will oppose her coronation.”
“If they value their lives, they better not. You know I’m not very tolerant.”
Cassian knew that his brother would need support if he wanted Abril to be accepted as his queen.
If he wanted to help his brother, he would have to stop hiding and take his place in the nobility. Until then, Cassian found it annoying and had been putting it off, but that had to end.
“Lessan, when we return to the kingdom, I plan to rejoin the knights.”
“If that’s what you want, I won’t oppose it.”
“And I’ll also take my place in the nobility.”
“What?”
“It’s time I left the nest and spread my wings.”
“I thought you didn’t want to be a duke.”
“It’s not that I didn’t want to, it just seemed annoying, but I can no longer run away from my obligations, I’m not a child anymore.”
“Cassian, you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to.”
“Even if you’re the king, you also need the support of the nobles; you can’t be at odds with everyone.”
“If it’s for that, you don’t have to become a duke, I’ll take care of everything.”
“No, Lessan, I’m a prince who still hasn’t chosen what to do with his life. You know that now that my injury has healed, when the nobles find out, if you give them too much trouble, they’ll want me to be the next king.”

“If that’s what you’ve decided, I’ll accept it.”
“Yes, that’s my decision.”
