“Sandra, I’m definitely interested.”
Sandra smiled.
“What is your current field of graduate study?”
“Biomedical sciences.”
Sandra nodded. “That aligns perfectly. How would you like to be my doctoral student?”
Rebecca was dumbstruck.
If Sandra’s claims were true, she must at least hold a postdoctoral position.
“I’ll take you home now. I’ll give you the antidote another day.”
Even amidst her daze, Rebecca did not lose sight of what was important.
She clutched Sandra’s hand excitedly.
“Sandra, I am willing to be your doctoral student.”
Sandra let out a soft chuckle.
“Deal.”
Department of Orthopaedics.
Earl wore a cast on one arm, which presented a somewhat comical sight.
Aside from that, there seemed to be no other abnormalities.
Catching sight of Earl standing in the corridor, Emily quickly advanced towards him.
“Earl, why have you left your bed? The doctor has instructed you to rest.”
Earl responded with anger.
“After your family almost crippled one of my arms, why are you still showing up in front of me? Get lost!”
Unperturbed, Emily spoke softly.
“The competition was fair, and I can’t apologize to you for that. Sandra was truly impulsive, and I will persuade her to apologize. However, you must take care of yourself first.”
Earl contemplated.
“Can you truly make Sandra apologize?”
“Do you think I’d lie to you?”
Suddenly, one of Earl’s bodyguards pointed outside.
“Isn’t that Sandra?”
Everyone turned their gazes towards the entrance, spotting Sandra supporting a girl.
The girl had her face turned away, preventing a clear view of her features.
They appeared intimate, possibly close friends.
“Emily said Sandra would come to apologize, and here she is.”
Excited, the bodyguard prepared to head out.
“She must be lost. Mr. Black, I’ll bring her to you.”
Earl’s expression was mischievous.
“Excellent.”
If Sandra was coming to apologize, he had already envisioned a thousand punishments to torment her.
He looked down at his plastered arm, vowing that Sandra would suffer a pain far greater.
Emily’s hands clenched tighter, beads of cold sweat forming on her forehead.
She couldn’t have predicted such a coincidence.
Her earlier words were merely a ploy to approach Earl.
Making Sandra apologize? It was unimaginable. If Sandra arrived, Emily would bring shame to herself.
But…
If Sandra refused to apologize, it would only further infuriate Earl.
Perhaps Emily would reap the benefits from the ensuing chaos.
Taking a deep breath, Emily decided to take a bold gamble.
After calling a cab for Rebecca, Sandra found her path obstructed.
At first, assuming it was those foreign adversaries, she held nothing back.
Earl’s bodyguard barely approached before being seized and flipped backward.
“Ouch!”
He crashed to the ground, his bones seeming to fracture.
Seeing this, the rest fled to report back to Earl.
Sandra, frowning at their sudden retreat, realized they were not sent by her foreign adversaries.
Earl arrived in front of her with a group in tow.
“Sandra, you’re quite bold to beat my people. Don’t think you can leave.”
Upon sighting Emily amidst the crowd, Sandra could almost reconstruct the entire story.
She couldn’t help but sneer dismissively.
“Last night, I realized you are weak.”
“But…” She paused deliberately before adding,
“Now I realize you are foolish, too.”
Her tone softened to a feigned pity as she added, “Lamentably.”
Earl, already seething with anger, found the ridicule unbearable.
“You clearly no longer cherish your life.”
“Last night, I spared you, but today I won’t.”
“I will end you today!”
“What are you waiting for? Attack! If she dies, I’ll take full responsibility!”
Having been hospitalized, Earl had a cadre of bodyguards dispatched by the Black family to protect him.
At his beckoning, a horde of about fifty men promptly encircled Sandra.
Emily, in tears, rushed to Earl’s side.
“Earl, didn’t we agree that an apology would suffice for forgiveness?”
Earl, who had no patience for a weeping girl, waved her away irritably.
“Enough! I’m already generous enough to accept her apology, but she dares to defy me. Death would be too kind for her!”
His threat was delivered with menacing force.
“Emily, if you continue your blubbering, I’ll end you as well.”
Emily fell silent, wearing a sad facade.
Earl was aware of Sandra’s fighting abilities.
She had inflicted such injury on him the previous night. But, outnumbered as she was, her skill alone would hardly spare her from harm.
He envisaged the joy of tormenting her personally once she’d been sufficiently weakened.
Prolonging her pain until her death provided Earl with amusement.
The sound of fists pummeling flesh rang out like music to his ears. But then,
He opened his eyes and realized that the individuals laid out before him were his own bodyguards.
Sandra, whom he had imagined battered and pleading for mercy, stood unfazed.
The remaining bodyguards, struck by fear and confusion, dared not approach her.
She’s fierce.
They had not even seen how she had defeated their fellows so swiftly.
They returned to Earl’s side, vigilantly watching her.
Across the road from the hospital, a black Cayenne was parked. Joey watched with astonishment as Sandra dispatched her attackers, utterly lost for words.
His perception of Sandra as impulsive had clearly been misguided. She was actually too cautious.
Wesley, meanwhile, watched her intently.
A breeze lifted a strand of her hair, adding an enchanting allure to her visage.
“Mr. Cooper,”
Joey finally managed to speak, his voice carrying a hint of jest,
“I suspect that even at your peak, you couldn’t fight her.”
Wesley responded with terse indifference,
“No one will consider you mute if you don’t speak.”
Joey, belatedly realizing his misstep, fell silent.
Wesley’s gaze remained steadfast on Sandra.
His mind wandered back to an incident from five years ago when he was conducting business abroad amidst a national crisis.
