Chapter 62 – The Heiresss’ Revenge: Abandoned No More (Sandra Hill)

He lost his people too.

It was a woman clad in black, masked in darkness, who had ensured his safe passage out of the turmoil-stricken country.

Upon crossing the border, he had glimpsed a temple housing a statue of a goddess, strikingly reminiscent of his mysterious savior.

There, he had acquired a beaded bracelet.

Now, as he gently caressed the beads, the soothing scent of agarwood provided a comforting balm to his spirit.

Recognizing the significance of Wesley’s attachment to the bracelet, an alarm sounded in Joey’s heart.

Since Wesley returned from abroad five years ago, he had cherished it.

If he was going to engage in bloody affairs, he would take off the bracelet.

Was today the day?

Joey looked across again and saw the bodyguards.

Was Wesley going to kill all of them?

Joey’s heart skipped a beat.

As he contemplated whether Wesley had begun to be enthralled by Sandra, he recalled a dark goddess mentioned by Leo.

She had captured Wesley’s heart.

Leo had also asserted that Wesley might never develop affections for another woman in his lifetime.

Joey wondered how Leo would react when he met Sandra.

And then…

Joey saw Wesley’s hand leave the beads.

“Joey,”

Joey inquired, “Mr. Cooper, are you not going to help Mrs. Cooper?”

Wesley replied indifferently, “I’m a patient.”

Joey gestured towards himself. “Shall I go?”

Wesley retorted, “Who’s going to drive then?”

Joey hesitated.

Sandra had just gifted him a race car last night.

How could he be so heartless?

Earl had not anticipated Sandra’s formidable strength.

He could tell that if the fight continued, he would be at a disadvantage.

Therefore, he did not urge his men to take further action. Looking at Sandra, his eyes filled with a mix of fear and an indescribable emotion.

“Sandra.”

When Earl spoke, he was surprisingly polite.

Emily paused, a bad premonition suddenly surfacing in her heart.

“It was all just for fun,” Earl said, shaking his suspended arm.

He tried to use his pitiful state to garner sympathy. Earl chuckled, “You’re not angry, are you?” His eyes brimmed with sincerity.

“Please do not be offended.”

Sandra furrowed her brows.

“What is going on now?”

As she spoke, she distastefully stepped back. “Keep your distance. You carry an odor.”

Rejected, Earl looked sad.

He instantly appeared pitifully woebegone.

“I have always admired those with supreme martial skills. I wish to be your close friend.”

“Is your brain also injured?”

Earl puffed out his chest. “Apart from a fracture, I am free of ailments!”

Sandra’s mouth twitched.

A short distance away,

A unique spectator was present.

Jagger had come to treat a minor abrasion sustained from the car race.

Originally, he was there only for bandaging.

He happened to overhear Earl’s harsh threats.

In the past, hearing someone plotting against Sandra, he would have chosen to remain indifferent. Beyond the ties of blood, he believed he had no connection with Sandra.

It was her fault for offending people. She deserved the punishment.

However, today he felt an unexplained discomfort at the thought of Sandra being assaulted.

He found himself following Earl without a second thought.

Witnessing Earl’s men surrounding Sandra, his fists clenched tightly.

His urge to step forward and assist her was compelling. However, noticing that the bodyguards had doubled in number, he restrained himself.

It wasn’t cowardice, but prudence.

He could only offer help if his own safety was not at stake.

So, he pulled out his phone to call the police.

Even if the police arrived, Earl could still get away with it. But the police presence might at least curb his aggression and save Sandra’s life.

As her brother, he tried his best.

But before he completed the call, he heard the sounds of fists. Looking over, he was surprised to find the formidable-looking men lying defeated on the ground.

Sandra appeared unsatisfied, as if lamenting their inadequate combat abilities.

He suddenly felt awkward.

His expression grew complex.

Jagger began to wonder if it was right to marry his sister off.

Sandra was at her wit’s end with Earl’s persistence.

“If you insist, but my condition is: stay away from me whenever.”

At a loss for words, Earl replied,

“But at least give me your number.”

With a sly smile, Sandra said, “Ask Joey.”

Joey was passing by just in time to overhear her words.

He was wondering what the scope of his job was now.

“Madam, Wesley is waiting for you.”

Sandra glanced towards the car across the way.

She couldn’t discern the expression of the man inside the car, but she felt watched, as if a tiger was stealthily trailing her in the night.

She suddenly felt reluctant to share a ride with Wesley.

Joey was about to mention that Wesley was not in the best of spirits, but before he could, Earl clung onto him, asking for Sandra’s number.

Inside the car, Sandra observed the man beside her.

“Did you follow me here, Wesley?”

His response was toneless, “No, it was a coincidence.”

“Huh.”

Sandra smiled. “Considering you’ve given me the land, could you perhaps draft a design for it?”

“How much will you pay?”

She spread her hands wide. “You know I’m quite impoverished.”

Impoverished?

The notion almost made him laugh.

She had just joined his family and immediately extracted 200 million from his grandma.

She then secured the post of Deputy Director of Technology.

Yet she said she’s impoverished?

“You want me to work for free?”

Leaning in with a predatory grin, she teased,

“I’ll take it as a yes.”

As she got closer to him, the delicate features of her face were magnified in his eyes.

The light in her eyes stirred his heart, leaving him with a dry throat.

He leaned away, his tone frosty, “It’s a no.”

As Sandra sat further away, the vision that had swayed his heart vanished.

His pulse gradually returned to normal.
