“You’re welcome,” he replied, smiling, pleased to see how happy she was to receive the news.
“I’m really grateful,” she said, her eyes filling with tears. She couldn’t believe it was happening.
“You don’t need to thank me so much. We had a deal.”
Oh yes, how could she forget that?
She turned back. “That’s right,” she said, dropping her hand.
“When will I start?”
“Anytime you want.”
“Can I start tomorrow?” she asked, her voice full of excitement.
“No, princess, we have a date tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?”
“Yes, princess,” he said, and with that, he switched off the dryer. “Done.”
“Thank you,” she said, standing up after taking the dryer from him and returning it to its place.
“What time tomorrow? Evening?”
“No…”
He was interrupted by a knock on the door.
“Who’s that?” she asked, and Clinton walked in with the maids carrying food.
“We’re here with the food, my lord,” he said, bowing before them.
“Why are there so many meals? I can’t finish all this.”
“Who said it’s only for you?” Christian replied.
“What do you mean?”
“We’re eating together.”
“What?!”
“Since you hate eating in the dining room so much, I figured it’d be better to bring the food here instead. So from now on, we’ll be eating together here, alone, in your bedroom.”
“No way!” she screamed in her mind.
“No, no, no, I didn’t hate the bedroom. I just…”
“Hm?” he gestured for her to finish her sentence.
“I just didn’t want to disturb you.”
“How will you disturb me?”
“Um, I eat noisily… I… I spill food on my clothes.”
Christian smirked, knowing full well that she was lying. “We once ate together after we left the hospital, and all the things you mentioned never happened.”
“That was because I was being very careful.”
“Then always be careful,” he said, signaling for them to drop the food.
“Wait!” she shouted, stopping them. The thought of them being alone in the room together all the time made her feel uneasy. “I will always come to the dining room, but I’m not hungry tonight.”
“You sure?”
“Very sure.”
“Okay then,” he turned to the chief maid and gestured for them to leave. “Tomorrow. Our date,” he said, leaving the room after them.
She gave a fake smile in response and sighed with relief the moment the door shut behind him.
“You’re going on a date?” Clinton asked as he overheard.
“Yes, tomorrow.”
“When? In the evening?”
“No, of course, all day tomorrow.”
“Huh. Do you know how to go about it? Do you know the kind of date she’d prefer? You know, a movie date, a dinner date? What kind of date do you want the whole day for?”
Christian smiled. “If anything, that’s what I know most about her.”
Clinton looked at him, confused. “Did she tell you?”
“How else would I know?” Christian said, walking ahead of him.
“Have they been conversing that frequently? He even knows the kind of date she wants. This is nice progress,” Clinton thought to himself, smiling.
“The qualities and quantities are great, and the test result is impeccable, but I think we should also consider their managerial structure. We might have to think twice before collaborating with them,” Williams said to his boss as he helped him adjust his white, crisp shirt in front of the mirror.
“You confirmed yourself that the test result was great, right?” Kyle asked, dismissing all other points Williams had made.
“Yes, but-“
“That’s enough then,” Kyle interrupted, gesturing for him to bring the black suit hanging on the ring beside the dressing table. “We’ll proceed with the signing.”
Williams tried to persuade him further, but Kyle shunned him. “There’s no stopping our investment. If anything, we should increase the percentage.”
“Boss, we shouldn’t.”
“And why not? Didn’t you hear about Christian increasing his investment? He’s giving it so much attention, meaning there’s more to be achieved.”
“You’re not doing this because of Mr. Christian Charles, are you?”
Kyle scoffed, finding the question ridiculous. “Of course not. Do you think that idiot has good judgment?” He looked away, clearly annoyed.
Williams stood before him, helping him knot his tie.
“But you seem more interested in this project because he’s involved in it. I feel like it’s because he’s also in it. I’d want you to reconsider, to look at it from another perspective.”
“Double the percentage,” Kyle said abruptly, as Williams’ words seemed to fall on deaf ears. He looked at him with an awkward expression, but Kyle simply ignored him and began walking away.
“What happened with Miss Isabella?”
“What does she say happened to her?”
“She didn’t tell me anything, but I noticed her things were gone. Did you two fight?”
“Isn’t that normal between a man and a woman who live together?” he replied as they walked outside toward the garage.
“Yes, it is normal for couples to quarrel in their relationship, but it shouldn’t be enough for her to leave unless it’s not just a quarrel.”
