Suddenly, the sound of a slap echoed through the entire police station. Dorothy’s hand flew to her stinging cheek, her mind going blank in shock.
She had been slapped twice that day, both times by Khloe, and it felt like a nightmare.
Fury surged through her, her face contorting with rage as she lunged at Khloe, her expression twisted with a desire to tear her apart.
Eric grabbed her by the arms, pulling her back with a firm grip. “Enough!”
It was then that Eric understood the situation fully.
Sloane, Dorothy, and Gwyn had been the ones stirring up trouble, rallying their classmates against Khloe, but they hadn’t anticipated Khloe’s reaction, which only made things worse.
Through it all, Khloe stood her ground. With Clinton now in the mix, Eric had no choice but to protect his reputation as the heir and prevent anyone from using this against him. Khloe had already made an impression on his grandfather, and his father echoed the same sentiment. Honestly, Khloe seemed like a better match to be his fiancee than Sloane.
Eric’s face tightened, and he exhaled deeply, pushing down his frustration. He stepped towards Khloe.
“This time, it’s on me. I apologize for their behavior. To make things right, I’ll personally offer you fifty million to settle this.”
Khloe stared at him, her voice steady and clear as she responded, “In your dreams!”
Eric hadn’t expected her refusal to be so firm, and for a moment, he was speechless.
“Khloe, don’t be so ungrateful! Fifty million is no small sum!” Dorothy’s voice cut through the air once again, making everyone cringe.
The nearby parents, hearing Khloe turn them down so bluntly, began to murmur their discontent.
“How can this girl be so ungrateful? Is fifty million not enough?”
“Exactly. They’ve apologized and offered compensation. That should be enough. Don’t push it.”
The tension in the air became unbearable, and suddenly, Khloe’s phone rang. She quickly glanced at the screen. It was Henrik calling.
“1 was delayed by something, but I’m on my way to the police station now. Wait for me.” Henrik’s rich, magnetic voice came through the phone, dissolving the frustration Khloe had been feeling after facing those people.
A brief silence hung in the air.
“Are you upset?” Henrik asked.
Khloe’s voice instinctively softened. “No.”
A low chuckle came from Henrik, as if he could see through her facade. “Don’t lie to me. I can sense what you’re feeling.” Khloe bit her lip, staying silent.
“What’s giving you trouble? I’ll have someone handle it,” Henrik said calmly. “I want to have dinner with my fiancee. I’m not fond of dining alone; I’d rather have your company.”
His words held a strange charm, steadily calming the storm in her heart.
Who would ever imagine that someone like Henrik, a powerful underworld kingpin, craved companionship for a meal? It was obvious he simply wanted to help her.
Khloe didn’t find his actions domineering; instead, they warmed her heart.
“Okay,” she murmured.
Nearby, Dorothy sneered, her tone dripping with mockery. “What, calling your sugar daddy to complain? I’ve heard you’ve latched onto someone powerful. Let’s see just how ‘impressive’ he is!”
Before her jeering could continue, Dorothy’s phone began to ring incessantly. She hastily answered, only for her expression to darken as she listened. Her lips trembled, her voice rising in panic.
“What? No! This can’t be happening!” she shrieked.
The people around exchanged confused and curious looks, their attention drawn to her.
Dorothy’s hand quivered as she clutched the phone, her voice trembling with fear. “My family’s stock prices have crashed! In just minutes, everything’s in free fall. Partners are pulling out of deals, and the bank is demanding loan repayments. What is going on?”
Khloe scoffed, her voice icy. “This is only the beginning.”
Dorothy turned to Khloe, her face pale, eyes wide with terror. “You did this!”
Dorothy was the only one there whose parents hadn’t arrived yet. Her family had always known she had a knack for stirring up trouble and was accustomed to using money to fix things, but this time, they had finally met their match.
The crowd watched in stunned silence, their disbelief painted across their faces. Even Gwyn, who had been gloating moments earlier, stepped back nervously.
Eric, too, was visibly shaken, never imagining that the person behind Khloe could wield such influence-enough to bring the Mason family to its knees with a single phone call.
The parents exchanged murmurs, their attitudes towards Khloe changing from scorn to admiration.
Clinton, momentarily shocked, quickly composed himself. Stepping forward, he cast a sharp glance at Eric. “Let’s set the record straight: Eric’s fiancee was Khloe. Sloane started the rumor that Khloe stole Eric from her. By now, everyone should see Sloane’s true colors. An illegitimate daughter scheming to take over the Evans family’s fortune, even using marriage to climb higher. What won’t she stoop to? It’s time you all stopped letting her manipulate you.”
A stunned silence fell over the group. Some began to reconsider their blind loyalty to Sloane. Even her staunchest supporters found themselves apologizing to Khloe under pressure from their parents.
The police station echoed with the sound of regretful apologies. Sloane, pale and overwhelmed, stood frozen, her will to fight utterly crushed.
The force behind Khloe was truly formidable!
This turn of events caught Sloane entirely off guard. This move was a total misstep.
As the situation flipped entirely, regret washed over Eric. He realized that stepping into this mess was his mistake. At first, he believed Khloe was being unreasonable, but he now understood that it was Dorothy who had been scheming against Khloe.
