After Adam heard that, he unfurrowed his tightly knitted brows.
He looked at Cathy who was playing with the children before getting up. “Amy, I’m taking the patient to my office. If you feel bored, you can take the children out first. I’ve already made the reservation for the restaurant.”
When Amy heard that, she turned around and looked at Niamh before nodding.
“Go on with your business. I’ll wait for you.”
“Okay.” Adam smiled warmly and pointed to the office. “Come with me.”
Niamh nodded and followed after him. She remembered the last time she came here was for Kendrick’s treatment. She did not think that today would be her turn.
Adam did not answer the questions about the two children. On the other hand, he helped Niamh check the wounds on her face carefully and considerately.
After the check-up, he looked at two reports seriously.
“Adam, tell me the truth. Do I really have the chance to recover my face?” Niamh asked anxiously.
“Do you know what’s the job of a doctor?”
“Saving people,” Niamh answered without hesitating.
Adam smiled and said, “For me, it’s not just saving people. I want to challenge the medical problems that people deem impossible to solve.”
He said and looked at Niamh. There was an abnormally bright glint in his calm black eyes.
“Back then, you were able to give birth to your son under such horrendous circumstances and it was the most perfect problem that I solved in recent years. So, today, I’ll help you as well. At the same time, I’ll be able to help myself solve this seemingly difficult question.”
When Niamh heard this, her eyes lit up like how they used to back then.
She was excited when she heard that. When she was about to ask if this was true, she thought that it was unnecessary.
If Adam could rebuild Cathy’s face, then it meant that his hands were extremely skilled.
Plus, he was not an ordinary doctor. He knew and understood a lot of things.
“Did you have a doctor treating your wounds before?” Adam asked. He walked to his shelf to look for something.
“It’s Carter’s doctor. He’s responsible for treating my face. According to him, my face is still salvageable, but it’ll take a very long time.”
Adam nodded. “This is indeed something that needs patience. I hope you can keep a calm state of mind. You don’t have to pay attention to those people online with no propriety in speech and are attacking your looks.”
Niamh smiled while feeling at ease. “I’m used to the way those people at the scene talk about me and look at me, let alone the ones online. Their reactions are normal. However, I feel even more scared because of this. I’m worried how terrified Jack and Lily will be if they see their mother like this.”
There was a flash of pity in Adam’s eyes but it quickly went away.
With Niamh’s strong and resilient attitude, he felt that Niamh would not want pity and sympathy.
He grabbed the syringe with the reagent and turned around to walk to Niamh. “I’ll give you a shot to get rid of the inflammation and swelling. When the wounds on your face start to form scabs, I’ll have a way to get rid of the marks. As for the slightly worse areas, I’ll use another way to treat them.”
Adam smiled and promised.
“I can’t promise you that I’ll be able to restore your looks to the way they were before, but I’m confident to help you find back the courage to stand in front of Kendrick.”
It would be enough to help her find her courage.
Niamh looked at the man in front of her. “Thank you, Adam. You’ve helped me a lot before and even now.”
“It’s my duty. You don’t have to thank me.” Adam’s answer was as carefree and confident as usual.
After Niamh received the shot, the discomfort on her face started fading away.
This feeling calmed Niamh down as well.
She wanted to know more about the treatment with Adam when Carter called her.
Niamh had to leave, but before he left, Adam called out to her suddenly.
“You asked me just now if the twins don’t belong to me and Cathy. I’m going to tell you now that you’re right. Those aren’t our children.”
Niamh looked at Adam with curiosity after she heard that. A face then appeared in her head. “So the children’s father is…”
“Yes, it’s him.”
Adam gave her a firm answer. Even though he did not tell her who the man was, Niamh knew who it was in her heart.
“Cathy and I were from the same university,” said Adam. When he said this, Niamh could see that his eyes were full of youthful energy from his younger days.
“We were in the same faculty. She was cheerful and gorgeous, so she was the most popular girl in the entire faculty while I was her senior. We always did experiments together and even went to the library to read together. I know the person she loved was Felipe, but that man did not love her.”
Adam said calmly. There was no resentment nor repulsion toward Felipe in his words. On the other hand, there was a slight smile on his face.
“I was surprised when Cathy suddenly came to find me in Glendale that time. I didn’t know you guys knew each other. I was happy to see her again because she left before she graduated from university. I didn’t have her contact, so I finally had a chance to contact her that time.
“I knew she wasn’t happy, but she was always so optimistic in front of me. The private doctor Felipe had in F Country was actually my teacher. When Cathy was on the brink of death, he notified me.”
As it turned out, they knew each other.
Niamh’s suspicions in her heart were gradually solved. However, there was still something she did not understand.
“If I’m not mistaken, Cathy was shot in the heart that time, so how did she avert the disaster?”
Adam laughed and sighed when he heard this.
“Cathy knew everything about Felipe, but Felipe didn’t know anything about her. He also didn’t know that her heart is on the right side.

When Niamh found out what happened, she felt that it was extremely fortunate.
“Thank God you were around.” Niamh lamented and praised, “Adam, you’re amazing.”
However, Adam chuckled in regret. “If I’m amazing enough, then Cathy wouldn’t be treating me as only her friend. Even though I’m lying to her and say that we’re husband and wife, she still doesn’t have any feelings for me.”
Niamh could sense Adam’s love for Cathy. However, one could not control feelings.
“Cathy is living a good life now. I won’t let Felipe take her away.”
“To be honest, Felipe is extremely remorseful. The person he had been keeping in his heart had always been Cathy but he had no idea.”
Niamh explained on behalf of Felipe, but after she said that, she realized that she did not have the right to say this.
Cathy had suffered so much and it was all thanks to Felipe.
The emotional and physical hurt she suffered could not be wiped away with just remorse or apologies.
Niamh did not stay long. After she thanked Adam, she went back to Carter’s manor.
On the way, Niamh did not notice a car following her.
After Niamh went into the manor, she felt that something was amiss.
When she got to the living room, Niamh knew what was going on.
The young woman who called herself the matriarch of this house was now sitting on the sofa. When she saw Niamh, she lifted her eyes that were covered with a layer of delicate makeup and arrogantly sized Niamh up with disdain.

She said and got up to walk in front of Niamh. She extended her hand.
“Let’s be friends.”
To be frank, Niamh could sense something sinister behind the woman’s smile. However, she hoped that she was just overthinking. As such, she reached out her hand to shake the woman’s hand.
“Hello, I’m Eveline.”
“Uh-huh.” The woman smiled superficially.
Niamh smiled back at her, but before their hands could touch each other’s, the woman lifted her hand suddenly and ripped the mask off her face when Niamh was caught off guard.
“OMG!” Ada exclaimed. She acted as if she had just touched the God of Misfortune and threw the mask in her hand to the floor in disdain.
“I thought you were some out-of-the-world beauty and that’s why Carty kept ignoring me. I didn’t expect you to look like this! No wonder you’re always wearing a mask. Oh gosh, you’re so hideous! No, you’re not hideous, you’re horrifying!”
Ada did not keep any propriety in her speech at all. She kept on waving her hand.
“Somebody come here! Get me some disinfectant! I just touched this person’s mask and I don’t know if I might get infected!”
“I think so,” Niamh uttered those three words slowly from her lips.
Ada was taken aback when she heard that. “What did you say?”
