Both of their gazes shifted simultaneously as they sensed the presence of a werewolf nearby the residence.
“I’ll go check,” Odin volunteered, but Gabriel suggested they go together.
As they leaped down from the roof to reach the large balcony of the third floor, they utilized their supernatural strength to descend further.
“It appears the werewolves are interested in Miss Venus,” Odin remarked.
“Her husband is a werewolf, that’s why,” Gabriel replied knowingly. They both were present at the front of the house, trying to find out where the werewolf disappeared. “I can feel the presence of several werewolves,” he murmured, casting a meaningful glance at Odin. Their attention was drawn to the imposing gate of the house, which suddenly swung open.
As Gabriel took a cautious step forward, a massive werewolf sprang forth, hurtling through the gate with a menacing air. Its eyes gleamed an eerie blue, marking it as a beta. Behind it, a host of others followed suit, scaling the gate with primal agility, their forms blending into the night.
Then, with a swift motion, the alpha werewolf shed his lupine guise, revealing the countenance of a man. He glanced at both Gabriel and Odin, wondering what the vampires were doing there.
“Eugene Lacroix!” Gabriel’s voice carried a note of recognition. “Your presence here is forbidden. Depart now, unless you wish for Prince Magnus to decide your fate,” he declared firmly.
With a dismissive gesture, Eugene produced a scroll from his pocket and flung it towards Gabriel. “Read it and then attempt to hinder me,” he challenged.
Drawing closer, Odin joined Gabriel as they unrolled the parchment, their eyes scanning its contents. It bore the unmistakable seal of the King himself. Eugene’s smile widened as he observed their reactions. “Defying this decree means defying the King himself. Present this royal edict to Prince Magnus and Princess Alora,” he instructed, his tone laced with confidence.
“We cannot go against the King’s order,” said Odin. Gabriel hummed and lowered his hands.
“Why have you chosen this late hour for your visit? It’s well past midnight. You could have easily waited until tomorrow,” Odin pressed, his curiosity evident.
“I see no necessity in divulging my personal matters to you,” Eugene countered, declining to disclose his motives for arriving at such an hour.
As the door of the residence swung open, Norman emerged, accompanied by his wife, Rhea. Both were visibly taken aback at the sight of the werewolves assembled on the cobblestone pavement, with Eugene positioned prominently at the forefront.
“Ah, it seems you’re all awake already. Please, fetch Venus for me,” Eugene requested, his tone strangely calm amidst the peculiar circumstances.
“I will not surrender my daughter to a beast like you. Tomorrow, you will be served with divorce papers by the family and marriage bureau,” Norman declared firmly. Elliot, appearing from within the house, joined them, visibly shaken by the presence of the werewolves.
“Norman Wilson, do you not desire to live out your days in peace and comfort? I have come to reclaim my wife. What Alora orchestrated earlier today was a humiliation to me. Though I may have rejected Venus, she remains part of the pack, and her fate will be determined by us,” Eugene asserted, his voice carrying a hint of authority and resolve.
Norman and the others remained perplexed by Eugene’s cryptic words, unaware of the intricacies of werewolf customs. Rhea, sensing their confusion, turned to Gabriel and Odin, silently imploring their assistance.
“Lady Rhea, forgive us,” Odin spoke solemnly. “We are bound by the decree of the King.”
“I cannot allow my daughter to be taken by him,” Rhea expressed with anguish, tears welling in her eyes. “Eugene deceived us into believing his family was like ours, but now…” Her voice trailed off, laden with disappointment and betrayal.
“Mother-in-law, do not worry. I am not going to kill your daughter after what she did to me. If you don’t bring Venus here, I will go inside,” Eugene declared.
“Over my dead body. I will let you take away my daughter,” Rhea stated as she stepped forward.
“Well, it seems you’ve left me with no other choice Mother-in-law,” Eugene remarked with a disappointed glance before taking determined strides forward, poised to enter the mansion. However, his advance was halted by a chilling voice that sliced through the tension.
“Eugene, I warned you not to anger me. You should have thought better than to set foot in my wife’s ancestral home,” Magnus’s voice thundered, carrying an undeniable authority.
The lined werewolves parted to make way for Magnus and Izaak, who stood apart from the others. Eugene turned to face them just as Magnus appeared before him in an instant, seizing him by the throat and lifting him into the air with a menacing grip.
Half an Hour Ago
Izaak was leaning against the recliner when his close confidant, Connor, informed him how Shadow Blue Pack decided to bring back Venus to the pack on Eugene’s lead past midnight.
Izaak opened his eyes and he sat up straight. “Eugene indeed has a death wish,” he murmured and stood up. “Are they heading to the Wilson house at this hour?” he asked.
“Yes, Your Highness,” Connor confirmed. “May I inquire why we are involving ourselves with the werewolves now, Your Highness? Forgive my curiosity, as I’ve never been tasked with monitoring them before,” he explained, casting his gaze downward.
“This time it’s for someone special,” Izaak asserted.
Connor glanced up, briefly wondering if Izaak had developed feelings for someone, perhaps Venus. However, he quickly pushed aside such thoughts and asked Izaak for his next command.
“You needn’t concern yourself, Connor. I’ll handle this matter with my brother. You should retire for the night,” Izaak instructed, dismissing him. Connor bowed and exited the chamber without further inquiry.
“It’s a nuisance to meddle with both humans and werewolves,” Izaak grumbled as he ascended the stairs to Magnus and Alora’s chamber.
Stopping outside the door, he instructed the guard to fetch Magnus. “It’s urgent,” Izaak emphasized to the guard, who promptly entered the chamber.
After a few minutes, the guard requested Izaak to go in as Magnus was waiting for him. Izaak entered the chamber’s seating area and saw Magnus was in his night clothes. “I think I disturbed your peaceful sleep, Magnus,” he commented.
“You did. What’s the matter, Brother?” Magnus inquired as he put his one leg above the other.
“Eugene is on his way to bring Venus back. On the blood moon he knows he will be powerful just like us old vampires,” Izaak informed him.
“Who told you this?” Magnus questioned him. “That bastard really needs a good lesson this time,” he muttered as his jaw clenched.
“Connor. I asked him to be around the place where Eugene and his family live,” Izaak answered.
“When did Brother Izaak become so thoughtful of the others?” Magnus chuckled as he rose to his feet. He needed to change into formal clothes. “I thought you were least interested in matters like these,” he added.
“I don’t wish to see your wife whining in the morning,” Izaak remarked.
“You’re showing true friendship towards her. It’s quite remarkable to see such a change in my brother,” Magnus remarked, a faint smile gracing his lips.
“Alora is unlike any other friend I have. That’s why I’m willing to go to such lengths for her,” Izaak replied. Magnus nodded understandingly and asked for a moment to prepare. Ten minutes later, he returned dressed formally, and together they made their way to the Wilson Family Residence.
