‘Why?’
Niamh felt exhausted. Why did disasters keep happening to her?
Suddenly, she became very pessimistic, especially after she saw Naomi’s arrogant, confident, and pleased face when she was sure that she did not have the guts to face Kendrick. Niamh could not accept this.
She clenched her fists and took a deep breath. She kept on telling herself to calm down.
However, when she looked at herself in the mirror, she could not keep calm.
She turned around and forced herself to not look.
She stood with her back to the mirror for a very long time. She endured the discomfort on her face when suddenly, she remembered something and there was a glint in her dull, lifeless eyes.
Perhaps she should try it.
Niamh thought about it and put on her clothes and mask.
When she was about to go out, she heard knockings on the door.
Niamh walked over to open the door. To her surprise, she saw Kendrick upon opening the door.
Their eyes met, and Niamh was slightly taken aback. However, she pretended to stay calm. “How can I help you, Mr. Waldburg?”
Niamh was curious indeed. Should Kendrick not be at work after sending the children to school? Why did he come back?
Plus, she did not know if she was delusional but she felt that Kendrick’s eyes were intentionally avoiding her face.
“Are you okay?” After a long while, Kendrick finally asked.
‘Okay?’
Niamh shifted her eyes in puzzlement before remembering what happened in the park just now.
“You heard about it too, Mr. Waldburg? About what happened just now?”
“Yeah.” Kendrick nodded. “So, are you okay?”
“Thank you for your concern, Mr. Waldburg. I’m fine.” Niamh’s answer was straight to the point. “I’m sorry, Mr. Waldburg, I need to go out for a bit. Can I take a day off?”
“Are you going out? Let me drive you.”
“…” Niamh had never seen Kendrick being so passionate and friendly before. She quickly declined. “No need, my boyfriend will pick me up.”
Niamh had no choice, so she could only use Carter as an excuse to decline Kendrick.
She could notice the subtle changes on Kendrick’s face. However, she did not have time to think too much about it.
After Niamh got out of the house, she called a cab from the side of the road.
When Kendrick saw Niamh getting into the car, he got into his own car and followed behind her.
Even though Niamh had only gone to Adam’s place once, she still remembered where it was as clear as day.
After she arrived at Adam’s home, Niamh stood at the door and hesitated.
When she was hesitating, the woman named Amy walked out of the house. However, to Niamh, Amy was Cathy from before.
Amy spotted Niamh and walked to the door curiously. She looked into Niamh’s eyes and felt a sense of familiarity. “Are you—”
“I want to see Dr. Brown. Is he home?”
“Oh, you’re looking for Adam.” Amy looked into the house. “Come in, then. He’s home.”
“Thanks.” Niamh let out a sigh of relief before following Amy into the house.
Adam was playing with the children in the living room. When he saw Amy bringing Niamh over, he looked at Niamh’s eyes curiously for a moment.
“Eveline?” Adam asked probingly.
Niamh did not nod or shake her head. “Adam, I think you’re the only person who can help me now.”
After she said that, she lifted her hand and removed the mask from her face.
The moment Niamh removed her mask, Adam and Amy displayed shocked expressions at the same time.
Adam was confused. “What happened to your face and voice? No, but during the incident in the park near your house this morning, your face was…”
After Niamh heard this, she understood immediately.
Someone must have posted the video of that incident online and Naomi was probably in the video as well.
Naomi was currently using her identity.
Her face had been perfectly captured in the video.
Looking at Adam’s confused face, Niamh did not beat around the bush anymore. “That’s not me. The Eveline you saw is Naomi.”
“Naomi?”
Adam immediately understood. He remembered how Naomi had also followed Ryan to Y Country when he was there and after that, Ryan secretly arranged for Naomi to do something.
As it turned out, he had arranged for Naomi to undergo plastic surgery.
However, Adam was still in shock. He looked at Niamh’s face in disbelief.
Aside from her eyes, there was no place on her face that was intact. There were also a few wounds on her forehead that had not healed.
Especially the scars on her cheeks. They were so unsightly.
“How did you hurt your face? How did it get so serious? Your voice too. I can’t even recognize your voice. Does Kendrick not know of your current condition?”
Niamh shook her head and lowered her head in sadness. “He doesn’t.”
“You didn’t tell him? Are you scared that he’ll abandon you after he knows that you’ve become like this?” Adam could guess Niamh’s considerations. “I think you’re overthinking. He won’t abandon you.”
Niamh smiled bitterly. “I can’t even bear to look at myself. I don’t dare to let my children see the way I look like now either.”
After she said that, Adam fell silent for a few seconds. He could completely understand why Niamh would think this way.
“Is Ryan really dead?” Adam asked in disbelief.
Niamh nodded and told Adam what happened that day at sea in detail.
After Adam learned about it, he was in even more disbelief. “Ryan was imprisoning you on an island!”
No one expected this.
Niamh nodded, and she had no choice but to recall what happened that day. “When the yacht exploded, he was on the deck and I was some distance away from the yacht. My face became like this from a distance away, so he…”
Niamh wanted to say something but stopped herself. She believed Adam could understand her.
“The person who saved me seems to have a special identity. He keeps investigating Kendrick. I thought that it was pretty suspicious, but he did save me. As such, I can only hide my real identity for now.”
“Who’s the person who saved you?”
“Carter Gray.”
“Carter Gray?” Adam frowned as if he was in deep thought.
“Have you heard of this name before?”
Adam thought about it for a while before shaking his head.
Niamh stayed quiet for a moment and then, the fire of expectations and hope ignited in her eyes again. “Adam, I know you’ll have a way. You’re the only person who can help me now.”
Niamh said and looked at Amy who was playing with the children. “I believe you can save my face with your skills.”
Adam slowly understood what Niamh meant.
Actually, he never thought of hiding this from everyone forever.
“Adam, Amy is the Cathy I know, right?”
Niamh asked in a very small voice. She was worried that Amy would hear her as well.
Adam only stayed silent after he heard that and did not say anything.
He was confirming this tacitly without a doubt.
“The twins don’t belong to you and Cathy, right?”
