Chapter 18 – The Heiress They Couldn’t Break

Amelia didn’t give her any attention.

She lifted her gaze to the sky; it was overcast.

The weather looked bad, and since they had to stay another day, Amelia decided to hunt for more food.

There were wild chickens, small animals, and native fruit on the island.

After telling the others, Amelia walked into the jungle.

Gianna noticed and quickly followed.

She knew Amelia was definitely going to search for food, and if she didn’t tag along, she’d starve.

Amelia realized Gianna was trailing her but didn’t say a word.

The island was vast, and it wasn’t her place to tell Gianna what to do.

Amelia headed further into the woods and spotted several trees heavy with clusters of bright red fruit.

She remembered that these berries were edible, but too many would cause stomach pain and severe constipation.

She had eaten them before, got greedy, and ended up badly constipated.

But with food scarce, Amelia picked some and ate a few.

The fruit was completely natural, juicy and tasty, making it easy to eat too much.

But Amelia recalled her last mistake, so she stopped after a small handful.

She turned to go and saw Gianna eyeing the fruit in her hand.

“Want some?” Amelia raised a brow.

Gianna sniffed. “Hmph! Who needs your stuff?”

There was plenty of fruit around, so she could pick her own.

She didn’t need Amelia’s fake kindness.

Now Amelia was pretending to be nice, just to make herself look good for the viewers. Disgusting!

Amelia shrugged. “Whatever.”

She kept walking deeper into the jungle.

Gianna snorted, walked to another tree, and stretched up to grab some fruit.

She took a big bite, juice dripping down her chin, and her eyes lit up at the sweet flavor.

She was starving, so she didn’t care about anything else and devoured them greedily.

“So good!” Gianna was surprised that the wild fruit tasted surprisingly good, and she ate seven or eight in a row.

Amelia walked a few steps, then turned back and kindly cautioned, “If you don’t want to feel sick, don’t eat too many.”

But Gianna assumed Amelia was only trying to make her go without food.

Hmph! Such a fake!

Gianna lifted her chin proudly and said, “It’s none of your business! I found food, so save your fake kindness!”

Amelia sighed. “You shouldn’t eat too much of that, it might-“

“Quit trying to scare me! You just hate seeing me happy!” Gianna cut her off.

She kept on picking the fruit.

It tasted so good. At least she wouldn’t starve for the day.

Tomorrow, she would be going home.

Once she got back, she had planned to tell on Amelia to her parents and Marcelo.

Hmph! I’ll make sure she can’t stay around anymore!

All the suffering I went through these days is all her fault!

Amelia didn’t bother arguing. She turned around and kept looking for food.

Soon after, she managed to trap two wild rabbits and came across a nest of quail eggs near the creek.

Back at the campsite, she started preparing lunch.

The smell of roasted rabbit soon drifted through the air, drawing everyone in to eat.

Just then, the sky was covered with dark clouds and a strong wind started to blow.

The production crew made an urgent announcement. “Emergency weather alert! A storm is about to hit. All guests must head to the cave on the east side for shelter immediately!”

They had expected this kind of situation during the site inspection.

Amelia quickly packed up the essentials and led the group toward the cave.

Halfway there, Patricia suddenly stopped. “Wait, where is Gianna?”

It was when Amelia realized that Gianna wasn’t with them.

She frowned and looked into the jungle. “You guys go ahead to the cave. I’ll go find her.”

Damn it! Gianna was probably still picking wild fruits or she might have gotten lost.

“It’s too dangerous! The storm is coming!” Kristina grabbed her arm to stop her.

Heading out now would be a death wish.

Was Gianna out of her mind?

Why did she always cause problems for other people?

Amelia shook her head and said, “Don’t worry. I can take care of myself.”

Actually, part of her wanted to leave Gianna to her fate since Gianna had been mean to her.

However, Amelia couldn’t just ignore it. After all, that was someone’s life.

Moreover, if something really happened to Gianna, the production crew would be held responsible and so would the rest of them.

The best outcome was that nothing happened.

With that thought in her mind, she turned and ran into the storm.

The livestream chatroom went wild.

[Oh my god! That’s too dangerous!]

[Amelia, don’t go! It’s dangerous!]

[Is Gianna an idiot? Just look at the weather and she’s still out there? She’s such a pain in the ass.]

At the moment, Gianna was curled up under a tree, clutching her hurting stomach.

She finally realized that Amelia wasn’t lying.

Those wild fruits weren’t safe to eat.

The wind howled and heavy raindrops started to hit her. She crouched and shivered in despair.

“Gianna!” A familiar voice cut through the storm.

She looked up and saw Amelia standing in front of her, soaked from head to toe.

“You-” Gianna could hardly believe her eyes.

“Can you walk?” Amelia crouched by her side to check on her.

Gianna shook her head and started tearing up. “My stomach hurts so bad.”

Without another word, Amelia pulled her arm over her shoulder and said, “Hold on to me.”

They staggered forward through the storm together.

Lightning flashed across the sky and thunder crashed in their ears.

Just then, the production crew cut the livestream off. The screen read, “The livestream is temporarily suspended due to severe weather.”

The drone had also been recalled.

Right when they were about to get to the cave, Gianna’s foot slipped and slid right toward the edge of a cliff.

In the nick of time, Amelia jumped forward and grabbed her hand.

Both of them dangled dangerously over the edge.

Amelia struggled to pull Gianna up.
