Chapter 57 – The Twilight In Despair

“And she’s interested in joining a fashion design company, but she’s still looking for one that will showcase her talent and not hinder it.”

Suzanne raised an eyebrow and looked at Celia, who immediately understood what she was thinking. Suzanne cleared her throat and turned back to Christian, who feigned ignorance.

“That is so great,” Suzanne continued, “but I think you should look no further. I’d love to have such a talented woman in our company. As you know, we’re one of the best in the world. She needs a wonderful and thriving company to nurture and showcase her talent.”

“Hm, you’re right,” he said, pretending to think it over. “I’ll discuss it with her, and whatever decision she makes, I’ll let you know.”

“When should we be expecting your feedback?”

“By tomorrow morning, possibly.”

Suzanne smiled. “Very well, we’ll await your reply.”

“Sure.”

“It’s nice having you here,” he said as they stood up and shook hands. At that moment, Karine entered.

“Sir,” she called as she entered.

“Hm?”

“You have a visitor, sir.”

“We should start heading back now,” Suzanne said as they excused themselves, with Christian bidding them farewell before turning back to Karine.

“A visitor? I wasn’t expecting anyone. Who is it?” he frowned as he asked, walking back to his desk and sitting in his swivel chair.

“Who’s the guest?”

“She said her name is Alice Ferdinand.”

Surprised to hear the name, he looked at her and asked in confirmation, “Alice?”

“Yes, sir, Alice Ferdinand.”

“But he’s your husband, and you might be worried if you don’t see him.”

“Why would I be worried? If anything, I’m glad I don’t have to see him this morning.”

“Are you sure?” Blue looked at her closely, smiling, but Clarisse scoffed.

“I’m serious. We’re not in that kind of relationship.”

“What kind of relationship?”

“A relationship where we worry about each other.”

“But he worries about you.”

“Ugh! What do you know?” she replied, leaving Blue once again puzzled.

Just then, they heard a knock on the door, and they both turned toward it.

“Who’s that?” they both asked at the same time. The chief maid walked in.

“Good morning, ma’am.”

“Good morning, Mr. Clinton,” Clarisse replied, and Blue stepped aside.

“I’m sorry to disturb you, but Master forgot this document at home. I’m supervising the maids as they tidy the quarters, and this file contains classified documents.”

“He can get it when he comes back.”

“I would have suggested that, but he was busy working on it this morning, and it’s needed this morning.”

Clarisse sighed. “What should we do now?” she asked, worried.

Clinton smiled mischievously, walking closer to her as if stepping on eggshells.

“That’s why I’ve come to see you, ma’am. I would have sent someone else, but it’s classified, and I can’t just give it to anyone. That’s why I’m here,” he said, giving her a pleading look.

Clarisse didn’t understand what he meant at first, but once she did, she let out a “You’ve got to be kidding me” laugh.

“No way,” she said, turning away.

“Please, ma’am, he worked overnight on this,” he lied.

“No.”

“This means a lot to him, and I’m sure if it weren’t for the meeting, he wouldn’t have forgotten. It needs to get to him before the meeting ends. Please, ma’am.”

Clarisse’s heart sank. She was confused; she didn’t want to meet him, and with how important Clinton made it seem, she worried something bad might happen because of her. Even Blue was giving her a pleading look, leaving her with no choice.

“Okay,” she said reluctantly, biting her lip.

“Thank you so much, ma’am,” Clinton thanked her wholeheartedly. “We should get you ready immediately.”

With that, she went to take a bath and dressed quickly, choosing a velvet pant, a black fancy blouse, heeled boots, and a black purse. She pulled her hair into a ponytail and accessorized with a nice pair of earrings and a bracelet. Clinton arranged for a chauffeur to take her to the office.

She sat in the car, her heart racing as she thought about what to do and who she would meet when she got there. She had never been to his office, and the thought of how awkward it might be made her uncomfortable. As she noticed the sky darkening, she asked, “Is it going to rain?”

“Yes, ma’am. It was forecasted this morning,” the driver replied.

Clarisse sighed with worry. Rainy days have never been good days, she thought to herself, wondering just how bad the day would get and what unfortunate event might be in store for her.

“Alice?” Christian asked in surprise.

“Yes, sir, Alice Ferdinand.”

“What does she say she wants?”

“She didn’t mention anything. She said she has to meet with you.”

He leaned back in his chair, swiveling slightly.

“Let her in.”

“Yes, sir.” Karine turned to leave but quickly turned back. “What about the file, sir?”

“Oh, shit! I’ll send it once I’m done with her.”

“Okay, sir.” With that, she left.

A few seconds later, Alice strode in, dressed in a black mini gown with a plunging neckline and tiny sleeves, revealing her cleavage and exposing her thigh. She walked with a confident sway, her smile never faltering. Her makeup enhanced her beauty, and her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, revealing her shiny earrings. She looked ravishing.

“Hi,” her sweet, tiny voice said as she approached him.

He looked her up and down with no expression on his face. “Hi, Alice,” he replied.

She looked around the white-painted office, admiring the decor and the elegant furniture. The blue carpet added a touch of beauty, making the space feel breathtaking.

“Your office is so beautiful,” she complimented, her face beaming with a smile.

“Thank you. But why are you here?”
