“Hurry, we can’t wrong Eveline.” Karen waved her hand. She was very protective of Niamh now.
Naomi frowned and had an aggrieved look on her face. As she cursed Niamh in her heart, she was also glad that Karen was siding with her.
However, she was a little anxious as well. Would anything happen when Kendrick went to talk to Niamh later? As such, she followed after him.
Niamh had just walked to the door of the room. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Kendrick following closely behind her. As such, she stopped and turned her head.
Kendrick gave her a slight smile when he saw Niamh turning her head to look over.
He approached her gracefully. Then, he hesitated for two seconds before speaking, “I’m sorry you were wronged.”
“…” Niamh was slightly stunned. She thought that Kendrick’s tone and gaze were a little off when he said this to her.
“Mr. Waldburg, aren’t you going to blame me for fooling Mrs. Waldburg just now?” Niamh asked.
“I don’t think anyone is fooling my wife,” Kendrick replied with a smile. He was in a pretty good mood.
This puzzled Niamh even more, and it also made her speculate.
Just as he was about to speak, she saw Naomi approaching Kendrick’s back. As such, Niamh reached out and pushed open the door in front of her.
“Mrs. Waldburg is here, so you should go to comfort her first, Mr. Waldburg.”
After Niamh finished speaking, she entered the room and locked the door.
She did not know if she was throwing a tantrum when she said that, but she was indeed infuriated when she looked at Naomi.
After Naomi saw Niamh entering her room, she walked to Kendrick to tell him about her grievances. “Kendrick, it’s just a misunderstanding. I didn’t mean to remove Quinny’s mask. I just did it out of concern and good intentions.”
Naomi said pitifully while looking at Kendrick’s cold and handsome face.
“Kendrick, you know what kind of person I am in your heart. How could I do something that would embarrass others?”
Kendrick lifted his eyes to stare straight at the face in front of him. He said, “You’re right. I know what kind of person Nia is, so you don’t have to explain anything to me.”
After Naomi heard that, she let out a sigh of relief. “Kendrick, I knew you’d trust me.”
She said before reaching out to hold Kendrick’s hand. However, coincidentally, Kendrick placed his hand into his pocket. He took out his phone to make a call while walking away.
Naomi stood where she was and glared at the closed door in front of her in dissatisfaction.
“Eveline, I didn’t think you’d be so steadfast. I’ll make you pay.”
She growled, but at the same time, she sensed that this was going to get troublesome.
She was worried that Niamh would expose everything if she was pressed.
Even though she was disfigured, she had something else to prove that she was Eveline.
Her DNA!
She would not allow Niamh to have the opportunity to expose her true identity!
After this kerfuffle ended, Niamh did not mention it again. She would take one hour of her time every day to go to Adam’s place for treatment.
Niamh did not know if it was psychological or if it was because Adam was indeed a very skilled doctor. After half a month, Niamh felt that the color of the burnt area on her face had become lighter. Scabs started to form on her wounds and they were starting to peel off. The scar on her forehead had faded as well and was not visible anymore.
Today was the 30th day of treatment. Niamh lay on the recliner and felt the cool liquid flowing across her face. She felt that it was soothing. There was no longer the hot, dry, and itchy sensation on her face anymore.
“You can see the result half an hour after this cold compress.” Adam’s voice glided into her ears gently.
Niamh blinked nervously. Then, she saw Cathy coming in with some fruits and beverages from the corner of her eyes. She wanted to greet her but knew that Cathy did not recognize her now.
Niamh lay down quietly, this half-hour feeling like an eternity to her.
When the alarm clock rang, Niamh opened her eyes abruptly. She saw Adam smiling softly at her from one side.
“Don’t be so nervous. Get up and wash your face before you look at your current face.”
Even though Adam told her not to worry, Niamh was still feeling anxious.
She washed her face in the toilet but did not dare to lift her head to look at herself in the mirror.
However, when she was washing her face, she could feel that her skin had gotten smoother. Although her face had progressively gotten better during the 30-day treatment, her skin was never this smooth before.
Niamh became excited, but she still washed her face gently. In the end, she used a towel to pat the water droplets on her face dry.
After a long while, she finally found the courage to lift her head.
The mirror in front of her was wide and the light on top of her head was bright. Niamh could clearly see the state of her face now.
She looked at herself in the mirror and lifted her hand to touch her face with some bewilderment.
At this moment, Adam appeared behind Niamh.
“I added a special ingredient to the gel just now. It helps to boost the rebuilding of your collagen and the tissues of your skin barrier, so that’s why your face feels flatter and more delicate now.”
After she heard what Adam said, Niamh’s eyes lit up.
Adam saw the joy on Niamh’s face, but he still had to tell her the truth.
“However, this is only temporary.”
“Temporary?” The smile on Niamh’s face faded. She turned around asked nervously, “Are you saying that I might revert to how I looked?”
“No, it just means that it’ll take a long time before you can go back to the way you look. Your scabs only fell recently and the red marks on your face can’t fade completely yet. However, if you put on some makeup, the red marks might not be visible.”
Niamh stayed silent for a few seconds after hearing that. After a while, a smile appeared on her face again.
“Thank you, Adam. I’m grateful and happy that I can recover to this extent. I thought I’d have these hideous scars on my face forever.”
“It’ll recover even better if you give it some time.” Adam encouraged her. “Actually, you might not feel so stressed standing in front of Kendrick now. Plus, I believe he won’t feel disgusted by you either.”
“I know he won’t.” Niamh touched her face. After staying quiet for a while, she picked up her mask to put it on. “I’ll be going back now. I’ll come again tomorrow.”
“Okay, I’ll walk you out.” Adam led the way.
Cathy was in the open kitchen preparing dinner. When she saw Niamh leaving, she walked over quickly.
“Are you leaving now? Don’t you want some dinner?”
Niamh stopped and looked at the woman in front of her.
Cathy looked almost the same as when she first saw her. She looked so clean and gorgeous. There were no traces of plastic surgery on her face at all.
Niamh started to feel sorry for this woman. “Thank you, Amy, but I have some things I need to take care of so I’ll get going now.”
After she said that, Adam’s phone rang. “Amy, I need to take this call. Help me walk Miss Montgomery out.”
“Okay,” Amy answered and walked to the outside of the house with Niamh.
The sky was not dark yet but the dusk in early winter was very cold.
Niamh walked out of the door and saw Cathy following behind her. “Amy, you should go in. I can just call a cab at the side of the road.”
Cathy smiled and nodded. However, there was a hint of melancholy on her face.
Niamh had a lot of things to say to Cathy, but she remembered what Adam said. He hoped Cathy could have a quiet life and not be disturbed by Felipe. As such, Niamh did not say anything.
“See you tomorrow, Amy.” Niamh waved her hand and turned around.
However, after she took a few steps, she heard Cathy calling out from behind her, “Eveline.”
She called her Eveline.
Niamh turned around in surprise to look at the woman in front of her in excitement.
“Adam always calls you Miss Montgomery, but I remember that your name is Eveline,” Cathy furrowed her brows and said probingly.
“I keep feeling as if I know you from before, and I don’t mean recently but a very long time ago.”
She said and then went on to talk about what happened back then.
“There’s a man named Felipe Waldburg and he was always appearing in front of me. He kept calling me Cathy but I’m sure I’m not Cathy. Yet, he still kept appearing in front of me until I said I hated him and told him to stop bothering me. It was only then he finally stopped appearing.”
When she said this, Niamh could see a flash of desolation in Cathy’s eyes.
“For some reason, after he stopped bothering me, I started having dreams about him. In my dreams, he would call me Cathy and I would reply to him. Am I really Cathy? Why do I have no memories about this?”
After she heard Cathy say this, Niamh felt conflicted.
