Raymond’s face turned red with rage.
“Call that brat back right now. She’s just embarrassing us!”
At that moment, Gianna came down the stairs. She had overheard everything from upstairs.
She walked closer and spoke softly, “I saw Amelia at the party. I tried to ask her to come home, so she wouldn’t embarrass us. But she refused. Maybe only if Marcelo shows her the company contract and makes her sign it, she might come back.”
Her words instantly reminded Marcelo.
It hit him. How could he have forgotten something so important?
When Gianna graduated, she had always dreamed of becoming a celebrity. Being a loving brother, Marcelo started an entertainment company and made her the first female artist.
At that time, Amelia had just returned after disappearing for years. Marcelo didn’t want anyone to think he was playing favorites, and he hoped the sisters would support each other, so he signed Amelia, too.
But all the best chances went to Gianna, and she became a C-list actress with some fame.
Amelia only got the jobs Gianna didn’t want.
After missing for so long, Amelia longed for family. Once she came back, she tried hard to please everyone in the family.
She never said no to anything and hid her true talent, and did whatever she could to make them happy.
She thought they were family, so there’s no reason to fight over anything.
But none of that made the Nygards appreciate her.
Marcelo even made her sign a contract. At first, it was just a formality. Now, it had become the perfect tool to control her.
Marcelo’s eyes turned cold. “Gianna’s right. That contract is still in our hands. She signed a ten-year contract with a penalty of 500 million if she breaks it. Unless Jeremy pays that much, she can’t leave our family. She’ll have to follow the company’s orders and earn money for us.”
Raymond finally relaxed a little. “Exactly. If she steps out of line, we’ll sue her for breach of contract! Or make her give up her shares to pay the penalty!”
Gianna lowered her head, smirking, her eyes glinting with satisfaction.
Amelia, you think you can turn things around just because someone is backing you?
Too bad-your contract is still in our hands!
A sly look appeared in Gianna’s eyes.
She had always known the contract was full of traps, not just the huge penalty, but all those sneaky “extra clauses.”
Miguel said nervously, “Marcelo, isn’t this too much? After all, she’s still … “
As a lawyer, he knew just how unfair this contract was.
Marcelo interrupted sharply, “She brought this on herself!”
Now, that contract was the key to keeping Amelia under control!
Emery looked a little nervous. “But … if we push her too hard, won’t she make a bigger scene?”
Marcelo didn’t care. “A scene? She wouldn’t dare. She signed the contract herself. It’s right there on paper. What could she do?”
Back then, he hadn’t thought much about it. He just wanted things to be easy to handle.
And that fool Amelia hadn’t even read it carefully before signing.
Truly, God was on my side!
Let’s see what Amelia can do now.
Raymond said, “Send her a message from a different number right away. If she doesn’t come back tomorrow to deal with this, we’ll sue her using the contract.”
Marcelo went to set it up immediately.
Meanwhile, at Cloudspire Estate.
Jeremy arrived for his second treatment.
He stared at Amelia for a long moment. “Amelia, I still can’t figure you out.”
“Same here,” she replied with a faint smile. “Anyway, it’s time for your treatment. Take off your shirt.”
Jeremy raised an eyebrow. “Can’t wait, huh?”
“You’re overthinking it.” Amelia pulled out her silver needles, getting ready. “I just don’t want to delay your treatment.”
The second treatment went much smoother than the first.
Jeremy only broke a little sweat. No more coughing up blood.
When it was over, he leaned back on the sofa, watching Amelia pack up her silver needles.
“Who taught you medicine?” he asked.
Without pausing, she answered casually, “An old mentor.”
Jeremy asked again, “Where did you learn?”
“In the mountains,” Amelia replied briefly.
Jeremy narrowed his eyes. “So, all those years you were missing, you were in the mountains?”
Amelia finally looked up at him. “Are you interrogating me now?”
“Just curious.” Jeremy stood, slowly walking closer. “How does a wealthy girl end up like this?”
“Curiosity killed the cat,” Amelia said lightly. Just as the words left her mouth, her phone buzzed with a new message.
She glanced at her screen. It was from an unknown number. But the message started with the word brat, she knew right away it was from the Nygards.
They were probably after her shares again.
Amelia opened the message. The moment she read the words, her face turned cold.
Amelia suddenly remembered the contract she had signed before.
She looked at it again. It was really the worst contract ever.
No surprise her so-called “loving family” had made it.
They had set her up from the very start.
At that time, she cared too much about family and didn’t notice the problem.
Well, since things had come to this, she’d face it head-on.
She had planned to return anyway. Some things needed to be fixed.
Now that they wanted to see her so badly, she would go. Hopefully, they wouldn’t regret it.
Jeremy saw her expression change and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Amelia passed him her phone.
Jeremy tapped the chair arm with his long fingers, staring at the contract on her screen.
“A ten-year contract, 500-million penalty fee if you break it, and the company gets full control of all your jobs.” He snorted. “Your family basically signed you up as their servant, didn’t they?”
Amelia’s face stayed calm. “They never treated me like a family.”
Jeremy raised his head. “Do you want me to take care of this for you?”
Amelia shook her head. “No. I want to see how shameless they can be. I’ll go back tomorrow.”
“Okay. If you need help, just call me,” Jeremy replied.
Amelia gave a small nod. “Thanks.”
She quickly replied to their message, saying she would come back tomorrow for sure.
The Nygards read her reply and looked proud, as if they had already won.
The next day, at the Nygard Residence.
Amelia wore a simple, casual outfit as she walked in through the front doors.
In the living room, the Nygards were already waiting for her. On the table was a stock transfer agreement.
“Do you think Amelia’s trying to mess with us?” Maxwell asked with a frown.
“She won’t dare. Unless she wants to get sued,” Marcelo sneered.
“Exactly. That brat keeps getting worse. After she signs the stock transfer, call the media and cut ties with her. We don’t need her embarrassing us anymore,” Raymond said coldly.
“Cut ties? That’s exactly what I want,” Amelia said as she walked in. Her eyes swept over the three of them, and a mocking smile played on her lips.
“So you finally came, huh?” Raymond snorted, slamming his coffee cup on the table.
Marcelo pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses, his voice sharp. “Enough nonsense. Today you must sign this stock transfer agreement, or we’ll take you to court.”
He tapped the contract in his hand.
