“Lily, I believe that I’ll be able to see you soon.”
On the other side, Carter had changed three different cabs with Shirley and Lillian before they arrived at a small hotel near the city center.
Shirley was confused. Why did Carter choose such a bustling place? Was he not afraid that he would be seen?
However, after she thought about it, Carter must have his reasons for doing this.
He was such a smart man, and so meticulous, so how would he expose himself so negligently.
Of course, Carter knew what Shirley was thinking and he was acting as cool as a cucumber.
After settling down, Carter closed the door and walked up to Shirley quietly.
He furrowed his brows tightly and looked at Shirley helplessly.
“You know what? Back then, you’d always side with me no matter what I do and immediately do anything I say, but now…”
“Carter, I told you I’m not the person I was before. I had been forced to create this persona just to get you to like me, but now, I just want to do what my heart tells me to.”
Shirley interrupted Carter coldly and decisively, her gaze toward Carter looked disappointed and regretful.
“Carter, we can’t go back now.”
Carter seemed to be momentarily stunned, but then he smiled.
“I know that we can’t go back and that we can’t start over, but this won’t change the fact that you still have me in your heart.”
When Shirley heard this, she looked at Carter who had just said this with so much certainty.
He was still very confident.
Shirley did not deny it. No longer interested in talking with him any further, she turned her wheelchair to face Lillian.
Carter knew it would be pointless to continue speaking, so he took out his phone to look at the time and then lifted his head to look at Shirley.
“I’m going out for a while. Don’t even think about letting that little thing go. You’ll only cause her more harm if you do so.”
Carter spoke and left again.
This time, he locked the door from outside again, and he also decisively cut all of the telephone wires in the room.
Looking in the direction where Carter left, Shirley chuckled helplessly. She then lifted her hand to stroke Lillian’s adorable little face.
“I’m sorry, Lily. I’ve disappointed you, but don’t you worry, since I’ve promised that I’ll send you back to your family, I’ll definitely do it. Give me more time.”
Lillian could feel Shirley’s kindness. She reached out her fair and tender little hand to grab Shirley’s hand and smiled at Shirley.
That smile was a response to Shirley’s kindness.
At the sight of that smile, Shirley’s heart was filled with sweetness and envy.
She recalled that child again, that child whom she had no chance to see, that child whom she killed with her own hands.
It was nighttime, and the sky turned dark.
After searching along the road for a long time, Fabian finally gave up.
He could not keep searching for Lillian this way.
He stopped the car for a break and suddenly remembered something crucial.
“How did I forget this?”
He grabbed his phone hurriedly and called Evan. “Evan, you told me that Carter asked someone to find you and even met you. Why did he meet you, and what did you talk about? Can you still get him to come out?”
Fabian sounded urgent; he could not wait to get the answer.
Evan had just arrived at a bar and was about to enjoy his time when he heard Fabian’s question from the other end of the phone, so he deliberately found a quiet place to answer him.
“Do you want to come here and have a drink with me? I’ll tell you in detail.”
Fabian was quiet when Evan invited him; it seemed as if Fabian was hesitating.
“Fab, just come over. You have nothing to do now, anyway. You should let Lily rest after she had dinner. You have so many servants at home, so you don’t have to worry about no one being around to take care of her.”
Evan continued to invite Fabian. It was evident that he did not know about Lillian’s abduction.
Fabian thought about it and finally decided to drop by.
Indeed, Lillian was missing right now, and he could not do anything even if he went home. It would be better if he went to see Evan and get more information on why Carter came to F Country.
Not long after, Fabian drove to the bar Evan mentioned.
It had just turned dark, but there was already a lively and amorous atmosphere in the bar.
As soon as Fabian entered the place, there were a lot of sexy and scantily clad women flirting with him. There were even women coming up to ask him for his contact details.
Without giving them the slightest chance, Fabian outright refused all of them.
He was young and vigorous, but Fabian had no interest in these women at all, regardless of their type.
He was not interested in the beautiful ones, the cute ones, the sexy ones, or the adorable ones.
In his mind, there was only Lillian, whose location was unknown, whose circumstance was unknown.
He did not know when he started paying particular attention to this child.
He did not know if it was because he felt so lonely after Yorick and Lana’s deaths that he wanted to take care of Lillian for the rest of his life. He would do anything as long as Lillian stayed by his side.
Fabian went straight to the VIP room which Evan had reserved.
The room was huge, and when Fabian pushed the door to go in, he saw a dozen people gathering together to drink and have fun.
When Evan saw Fabian coming, he immediately reminded the two young women with outstanding looks next to him.
“The Young Master Johnson you’ve been thinking of is here. Hurry up and say hi to him.”
The two women greeted Fabian with a polite smile. “Young Master Johnson, hel— ”
Before they could finish their sentence, they saw Fabian frowning and walking past them to go to Evan.
“I’m not here to drink with you. I’m here for business.”
“I know.” Evan curled his lips and showed Fabian a soft smile of a yuppie. “We can drink while we talk, and I’ve looked around for you. These two girls are a match with you in all aspects. They’ve never dated anyone before, so they’re perfect for you.”
Evan lifted his hand to put it on Fabian’s shoulder.
“Fab, you’re not young anymore. It’s time to date someone and find a girl who can stay with you.”
Fabian’s brow furrowed even tighter when he heard this.
“Tell all of them to get out.”
“Stop bullsh*tting. Hurry.”
Fabian urged impatiently.
Evan furrowed his brows helplessly. “They’re having fun now, so isn’t it inappropriate to kick them out?”
Fabian lifted his eyebrows. “I’ll leave, then.”
“No, no, no.” Even rejected the idea quickly and gave him a happy smile. “You’re my Young Master Johnson. I wouldn’t kick you out even if I had to kick myself out.”
He joked and then said seriously.
“Everyone, I need to speak with Young Master Johnson regarding something serious. Please go have fun out there for a bit. We’ll have fun together later.”
Since Evan was the one paying for this place, no one dared to say no. They quickly packed up and left.
However, the two girls were somewhat reluctant as they looked at Fabian and lingered for a while before leaving.
The room quieted down quickly and the door with a soundproofing effect blocked all kinds of laughter and voices outside.
Evan turned on the lights, which immediately basked the room in warm light.
Evan only then noticed the gloominess on Fabian’s, and Evan’s expression, too, turned serious.
“Fab, did something serious happen? I heard you were looking for Carter. What is your relationship with him?”
Fabian sat down on the sofa and then distraughtly picked up a clean glass, poured himself a glass of red wine, and drank it.
